Correct me if I am wrong, but are there not at least 2 other factors influencing the lume: Thickness and age?

Vacheron Constantin Overseas "Deep Stream" : Another Review
mbjoer replied to lhooq's topic in Other Brands Area
I really appreciate reviews like this one. The good and the bad well documented. It is a very attractive watch and I was pleased to hear that you find the strap satisfactory. That's a rare occurance. Still, think I will wait a little before I jump on to this one. Who knows: There might be a genuinely imporved V2.... -
Great to see a new brand here. Good pics too. Thanks. How is the back of it? Also, is the 10 button functional?

I think the question was about Gen straps, Would be interesting to know if there are places where you can get items like Audemars Piguet (not AP straps), Cartier and Patek straps.

Considering few new watches, Patek, Jaeger, A. Lange.
mbjoer replied to lfovco's topic in Other Brands Area
A couple of those you suggest are from the top drawer of rep-mistakes. Initially very nice looking, but with flaws which everyone with no knowledge of watches can spot. The Lange has a list of rediculous mistakes on the back. "Made in Switzerland", "IWC" and spelling mistake in 33 (that may not be too obvious if you are ignorant about German). The Patek has the opposite. On the dial it says "Made in Germany". Somehow such reps belong in the joke department, but it seems to take some time before the makers realise that. -
What distinguishes a good from a bad fantasy is the extent to which the result is plausible. Could it have been made by IWC? Here the answer is no. The first and obvious point is that IWC would not make an open heart model to look like a tourbillon. Also the design elements here are a funniy mis-match with has no parrallel in the IWC line-up. It is meant to resemble the Portuguese tourbillon, but has ended up a long way away. On the back the thick stickers are another obvious tell. This is very obviously not a genuine article, and in contrast to many other reps this one is fairly easy to tell, even if you do not know much about IWC.

The "New" Asian 2836-2 GMT movement, review, defect, upgrade
mbjoer replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
The issue I had - and which I think was the most common one with the GMTII - was the GMT hand slipping. The rest was fine. This I received in May of last year. Wonder if that was the old GMT modification and if a similar one today would not have that issue? Asking because I up to now have recommended to go 21J instead of A2836 for GMT. -
Hmmm. Only if it stays stuck on your wrist. The text on the back is so bad as to make it laughable. Lange movement made by IWC? In Switzerland?? By someone who cannot spell 33 in German???

Interesting analysis, but I am not sure I agree. At this price point you will not get great attention to detail, but if a watch looks good on it's own I would not worry about that. If your concern is robustness if the watches, I see no reason that they should not be as good as any. It is true that mineral glass scratches slightly more easily than saphire, but that does not mean that it scratches easily. Conversely it is true that sapphire breaks more easily than mineral, but again that is a ver rare occurance. As to the quality of movements I would not precisely know what 21J is in the Jaeger. But they are not per definition bad quality by design. What makes the difference is the assembly. By design both are likely to be fine, but due to assembly both should reallybe serviced at some point. The biggest difference in terms of robustness is that the IWC is plated and the JLC is not. The combination of hand-wind and plate is gueranteed to make the plate wear off at some point. So in terms of robustness, the Jaeger is definitely the best option.

Would be interested to hear your take on this one. There are so few Ladies reps out there and even fewer good reviews. To me it seems that the main issue with this model is the strap. Being an LV the leather should be tops. Rep straps are usually pretty far from that. It has an odd shape, and so a replacement strap would be very costly. But likewise it would be good to hear about the quality of finish, AR, etc. I have looked for ages for a decent rep with no ticking hands and no diamonds for my GF. It is not easy.

I would look at Vacheron Constantin. There are a few nice reps of this make. If you can live with a white gold/steel version, here is one for sale which has had all relevent mods done to it: http://www.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/vacheron-constantin-malte-93673.html

That is great to hear. It has been reported elsewhere not to be the case. In that case I would really consider it for myself!!
-
Please tell me that this is a rep!!!!
-
In fact, that is not the case. They tried, but the case went against Sky: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2045363/Premier-League-TV-rights-ruling-lowdown-decision.html

At the moment it looks unlikely to go through, but there is good reason to be concerned about such initiatives. The current proposal is intended to protect against illegal downloads, but experience shows that laws created for one purpose in the US frequently gets used for a different one. A specific example is the extradition agreement with the UK which was created to protect against terrorism. With this in hand the US can demand anybody to be extradited from the UK without any proof that the person in case has commited any crimes under UK law. Interestingly the same does not apply if the UK wants someone from the US. This has since been used for all sorts of other things such as financial crime, hacking and very recently a portal for file sharing. I would expect that any such law would be used - or be attempted to be used - to close down sites like RWG and crimimally procecute anyone responsible for the running of the site. So let's just hope that Obama and not Rupert Murdoch wins this one.

my first rep 300m chrono diver semi review with pictures
mbjoer replied to the_rymeister's topic in The Omega Area
Have you had it pressure tested? If no (or if it failed) If you are having it serviced anyway, do make sure it is waterproofed as well. This one should at least be able to swim! -
As I understand it, the inner bezel is NOT screw down. That would give it away as a useless diving watch to any diver. Other flaws are for the members here to spot, that one everybody can identify.
-
That would be great. If so, bring a camera and take LOTS of very sharp pics. This is expensive stuff, so very interested to see what you get for money.

Because none of them sell what Phong sells. He is in a league of his own way above what any TD offers.

Seller warning not to post QC pics on forum, is this normal?
mbjoer replied to picoweb's topic in General Discussion
Total agreement. I also frequently see posts that make the point that there is a relationship between the price and what you can expect to get. The unreasonable nit picking posts in response to a QC pic are actually very rare. -

mbjoer replied to picoweb's topic in General Discussion
One good reason that some dealers do not want you to display the QC pics here ............. and why it is a good idea to do so anyway. Not just because you look for microscopic faults, but to make the forum aware of the quality difference between the dealers. -
Great with some historical perspective. Sometimes.... Think today's line-up is: Repgeek RWI RWG.CC Repica-Watches-Guide and Wrist-Check Am I missing someone??

Agree. One such genuine concern might be: "Am I missing something?"
