  1. Little Space-Dweller in the morning. Big 288 in the evening.

From my readings, both types are correct. However, the flatter subdials are usually (always?) found on pump-pusher and earlier screw-pusher Daytonas. "Punched" subdials with a pronounced profile are more common in the later series of Daytonas. Late-70s to late-80s, I think. Maybe someone who owns a copy of Daytona: A Legend Is Born can set us straight. And if you really want to get nit-picky, one thing that's bothered me about the DW dials is the shortness (in terms of height) of the metal hour markers. That's very evident in the photo. Please note that my 6263 subdials are actually flatter and don't have a ring at the base, unlike my 6239's. Also note the difference in color:
  3. Watch Eden still sells the Americans for $108 (or $88 if you have the super-secret code!). Don't be put off by the budget pricing. Novesh reviewed one a few years back, and it looked very good. Details were not exactly accurate, but held up very well in closeup shots.

Here's my thread from last year.
  5. Big thanks, krpster! Those go into my archive! It's fascinating to see that Newman dial up close. I don't think I've ever seen a PN without the recessed minute track in such detail.
  6. That just means you need to buy a black PN 6265.
  7. Aftermarket or gen? I missed one on VRM last year: Beautiful shade of brown, decent condition... and only EUR 250! It resurfaced two months later, and sold for double, if I remember correctly. Great to hear that ig44 will be back. I know at least one person who has bought a dial from them recently, despite them not having anything listed. Their Space-Dweller really is the best aftermarket 1016 dial I've ever seen. Take a look at the photographic comparison I made last year between it and the genuine item.
  8. Over the past year, it's become a lot harder just to find the parts to convert a 7734 from a 30- to a 45-minute counter. I'd imagine it's near-impossible to source all the parts needed to add a date component to a 7733.
  9. Every time, I think I'm gonna wake up back in the jungle...
  10. Thanks for the link, sql! There are some very nice macros that can be viewed for free!
  11. I'm not familiar with the 7732 movement. Is it part of the 7733/4/6 family?
  12. Thanks, B! It could have been a better shot, but I seem to have misplaced my jar of ants, and... oh, CRAP!
  13. You're living in the past, Pete. Quit living in the past! And now, a nice rep of a 1965 Daytona. They sure don't make them like they used to!
  14. Well, now that we've thoroughly hijacked bluemax's thread, here's the first mechanical watch I ever owned, a Vostok Komandirskie. Bought in '89, it died in '93, and was brought to the watch repair desk at Eaton's in downtown Vancouver. The guy there claimed it needed a new movement! Not knowing any better, I told him to forget it and kept the watch in a desk drawer. Last year, I finally got the bright idea to bring it to my regular watchsmith, who cleaned the gunk out and brought it back to life. Screw you, incompetent repair dude!
  15. Two bits of good news for members and wannabe-members of the Monte Carlo Club! First, for the cheapskates: Justin's much-admired cheapo Heritage is now available to all in black, white, and... brown. Yes, you're looking at a brown watch. (Allegedly.) And for those who want something a little different for their money-draining 7032 builds, DW sez, "Black is the new gray is the new black." That is all.
  16. Welcome back, stilty! I got worried after reading the OP.
  17. Surely, some of the other stuff would involve a back-and-forth wrist motion e.g. chipping off pieces of moon rock, or waving to the good folks back home? I'd wager that any astronaut's automatic watch would get more of a charge in an hour than mine does from 9-5.
  18. Not useless. Rotate your wrist so that the dial is facing upward, then shake your wrist from side to side. How much help did you get from gravity?
  19. pbdad's elaborate little joke, I think.
  20. Looks like great value, J, but I'm not used to seeing such hulking timepieces on your wrist!
  21. It's several times more expensive, but you could try the Amphibia 1967 reissue. 42mm will wear better on your wrist, but the new one has also had its issues. There was a good review on PMWF.
  22. Certainly the information within this article is of interest to me. But more clarity is a necessity. So that is what would please me. The translation? A poor execution, challenging the French language source awkwardly. A pity, surely!
