That 1675 seller displayed the entire serial number... :bangin:

It's funny because it's due to those collectors that I've found a picture of a vintage daytona and wanted it. But it's also becuase of them that prices went up so drastically . If it weren't for those collectors, I'd figure daytonas should be worth around the $5000-7000 range?

I've read about this one. They say it's also expensive because of the order of the writing: ROlEX Cosmograph Oyster instead of Rolex Oyster cosmograph. 80% of the price would come from the rarity of the dial alone. In gens, there's no solid line differentiating models in auctions; that when you actually look at the case number, it would read 6239, but it has the features of 6263. Guess who built a franken way back when? :whistling: And this would make it more rare. :bangin:

you know what I find peculiar.... There's a 7750 movement in the 6238 page in one of the daytonas...It's like they're suggesting that the 6238 is a rep... 0_o -
precious time still sells the bracelet separately as long as he still sells the wm9 v 1.5. But you'd have to buy the entire bracelet and then cannibalize it.

So many gen parts...so awesome :clapping: I didn't have the money to finish mine =( what endlinks did you end up using? it looks too curvy

well sometimes you can't think prices in relative terms. Sometimes you'd have to think in absolute terms. The bottom line is that it's going to cost 2 grand. If you're really firm about having it, like for example you're a person who likes having permanent pieces in your collection (you did mention that you sold your MBW before) or it's one of your grail watches, then here are really no alternatives for a WIS. It's either super franken or gen. Sure you could say that "for 2k, I could get a gen speedy", but it's just not the same. So the question then becomes is it something that you're capable of spending on without financial or relationship repercussions?

narikaa?

assuming that you do pick the first option, using a stock datewheel, doesn't that datewheel have an overlay over it which you can peel off? I mean, the 2846 movement doesn't have correct window placement to begin with right? Anyways, there are no aftermarket DRSD dials that are even close to being decent (IMHO). And 90% of them are MK4, which I hate. I think you should go gen GWSD dial route but that's just my opinion.

Is it possible to have the screwdown pushers removed?
praetor replied to Prsist's topic in General Discussion
remove it and change it with what? pump pushers? DW sells them on ebay. Or just be like paul newman and always keep it unscrewed. -
Just when I thought my albino '42 was the living end

you know, just because the guy is a respectable gen collector, it doesn't mean that he will not build frankens. Take for example this guy: He bought a genuine 12 million dollars ferrari v12 in order to "modify" it to look like a 250 GTO that's worth $25 million dollars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc6MqgjIVSI -

I have never seen lume on a dial like that colour. I've got to say, I like it. Freddy, sometimes I think you collect watches because it's rare and wanted by collectors. Is that true? =D not to hi-jack your thread, but my grail would be this unattainable watch: (I feel your pain) A Rolex 6239 underline double swiss dial watch in black, worth about 70 grand unfortunately. -
Is that genuine 1570 movement---I see serif fonts on the date wheel. Also, the hands, on the cannon pinon are rounded. I don't know if the case is MBW,I doubt it. But the case back of the MBW I saw had black paint in them. SO I assumed it was MBW. The 703 crown would be wrong for the model though. The coronet on genuine early 703 crown would have narrow opening, where this is wide, like the ones you see on 2007 z series ones. I thought it was genuine since the top side of the crown is flat-ish, where it's usually rounded. However, that said, it does look a bit large.

MBW case and case back...with lugs bevelled, lug holes drilled genuine 703 crown.

awww...first wedding, how cute =) is that a DJ on her wrist? :bangin: :bangin:

it sucks to be a WIS, ignorance is bliss =(

before even designing the dial, I had to research whether or not it's possible to do small serif fonts. And as it turns out, It's possible. The picture below is a replica dial (not refinished) from ingod44 in ebay. I could tell by the shape of the date window; only curved on one side. So if he could do it, why cant I? There's only 3 limitations when it comes to pad printing. 1)The quality of the designs (easily fixable for me) 2)The quality of the plates (laser engraved ones are the best & cheap if outsourced) 3)The ink mixture & pads in pad printing (cheap & lots of experimentation possible And it's possible to do pad printing with set up costs around $400-550. It'll be like my graduation present =), of course I have to keep it a secret from my parents, whom I lied to about how much I spent on the wm9 v2 this spring >.> P.S. jmb is working on the decal version of the DRSD dial, he asked me for the file, so it MAY come out first...but he's of ink cardriges haha..

stilty pad prints date wheels like that. But even he can't do the radial brushed finish I think. but dials...they're just matte black and just need to get the date window shape right =)I'm so anal when it comes to the dial lol... even include all rolex's printing irregularities. So it's 99% gen like or nothing =P. How anal you ask? This anal!even includes the wavy lines hahha
-
wow thanks...didn't notice that. I'm still in the planning stages for my DRSD project, doing tons of research. But unfortunately, can't do anything until I get my second part of my student loan in January...and maybe this summer I'll start. As per any vintage watches I would have to start with the dial. I'm planning to custom print my own dial using a manual pad printer ($300) and outsource plate making (laser engraved ones) and outsourcing sterile dial making. Then again, I am in Canada, I could just make stilty do it. Oh well, It's going to be fun either way, but one of the way will leave me with less money =)
-
Other people have done mods like this before though. For example Sander and Tribal. what they would do is sand the ETA datewheel heavily and partially sand down the gen datewheel. And then use the gen datewheel as an overlay
-
There's silver gen ones for like $140. The thing about PT's datewheel is that it's not 100% correct (from the pics, don't quote me on this). But gen has a radial silver finish (or brushed outside like a circle). So I think it's better to stick with what you have.

soo how does service replacement T-39s fit into the picture? are they super dome or flat?
-
I've successfully stripped AR with normal paper/sandpaper and Mother's Aluminum Polish in 5 min. The only reason why anyone would need to use diamond paste is to remove scratches or reshape the crystal, but in your case, it caused scratches LOL. Lesson learned =)

Does anyone have a TW best bracelet laying around?
praetor replied to JoJo35's topic in The Rolex Area
yea, I'm modding my wm9 too, but getting my winter gear is more important for me now =(. It's either a nicer watch or a warm winter? I just spent the last of my savings on a winter jacket. I can't wait till January when I will get my second part of my student loan and buy the wm9 v1 bracelet right way (it was 90 bucks shipped 2 months ago) and a warm pair of boots. Damn you winter!
