  1. I'm glad you were finally able to get this finished, M, it looks great!
  2. Built an Explorer for someone on the board who mentioned his Father had had a gen on a Jubilee long ago. I love Jubilees and have wondered at times how one would look. Wso990 (aka Mr. Slimeball), on fleabay, recently started listing Jubilee endlinks for fat springbars so I decided to order a set. They got here this afternoon and popped right on with no tweaking! I can now say that I like the combo...
  3. I personally don't see anything wrong with him, he seems pretty "normal" to me!! I need the disk/belt sander combo...
  4. Man, y'all are harsh! Correctness aside I think it's a decent lookin' watch...
  5. If you can get an gen "old style" 6mm crown it should fit the rep tube and there really isn't anything wrong with the rep tube...
  6. M, I just got in a batch of Yuki dials yesterday and I think they look great. I built a watch with one today...
  7. If you're talking about the old insert, yes, it probably would be possible if you can find something to dissolve the glue without attacking the plexi. I didn't want to mess with it and ruin it plus the OD of the insert was a bit smaller than the "seat" in the bezel.
  8. The way this bezel is shaped as far as the insert "pocket" I'm pretty sure it was designed for one of the cheapo stamped sheet-metal inserts and a flat bottomed insert would not even start to set in. The insert that had been on it was a little smaller in ID and had been glued with "gusto." I machined off a little of the bezel and got it to set down a little but was afraid if I went much further I would be getting into the groove where the spring lives and I didn't want to go there! What needs to be "salvaged" as far as the insert is concerned?
  9. I would like to point out that in the end I had this watch assembled with the Zodiac movement. The time could be set properly, the GMT hand tracked properly, the sweep hand was ticking right along, and the date clicked over nicely. The only problem was THE HANDS DIDN'T MOVE - hands stayed right were you set them!!! I tore it apart one last time, could find nothing wrong so installed a bit stiffer dial spring-washer (just to make sure), put everything back together, and no change. At this point I think I made threats regarding the continued existence of the movement as a semi-cohesive assortment of components so WW finally "saw the light" and opted for a good Swiss 2836 with GMT complication. After that decision was made the watch was finished in the next day or so... If somebody is curious as to how to use the Zodiac I'd outline the process but I swear I'll never let another in the door! PITA But, glad it's finished and back where it belongs and hopefully WW will wear it proudly for many years! Oh, they DO make a lovely pair...
  10. I pick up a pad printer tomorrow...
  11. I have found a used, but excellent, setup locally that comes with everything including a bunch of different colored "inks". I'm very tempted, just gotta figure out where I would put it and what time I would need to take away from other issues in order to learn how to do it!
  12. As soon as I come up with $1000 I don't need I'll think about it. Then there's pads, chemicals, ink... Maybe I could do a kickstarter thing! It would be kinda fun!
  13. I need a pad-printing setup...
  14. Chuck, big improvement with the "standard" hands.
  15. Anybody know what's up with ingod? I don't think I've seen their Space Dweller dial in stock for months... I do think their Space Dweller is the best bang for the buck. I have built a SD for somebody with the Yuki dial and it's not as crisp and the "Space Dweller" text is in white instead of Silver. If somebody could come up with a "perfect" dial for around $100 I think they could make a killing - doesn't seem like it should be that hard!
  16. If you tap it on the tabletop does it start and run for a bit? If so it could be a piece of dirt, hair, fiber, etc. I have had new asian clones with a badly formed tooth on one of the wheels that would cause it to stop every time that spot was hit...
  17. Cool! The "teeth-marks" left by the pliers is an interesting effect!
  18. Welcome! DFW area here, too...
