  1. I worked up the nerve to try the engraver out on the case back of my silver dialed Tudor PDC. Since this had no existing engraving to remove I didn't true it up in the lathe as I assumed the back would be flat - NOT. Everything engraved pretty good except for one quadrant which appeared to be a few thousandths of an inch "lower" than the rest of the back. I guess this means that every case back will have to be milled true before engraving. I had to work up different art work for this as the PDC has the newer style engraving (like the Prince Date) so I used one of my rep Prince Date cases with some assisted tweaks from a pic of justasgood's departed gen. I also have installed a new Flip-Lock bracelet which I think looks very nice. All that is left to be done to this is lug holes - some day when I'm in the right mood. Here's a couple of pics...
  2. OK, just received my latest goody box from the Far East containing 34mm and 36mm watch cases, bands, hands, etc., AND two of the new quartz Heritage Chrono reps. I ordered both "grey" and "black" dial versions with the intention of keeping the one I liked the best and putting the other up for grabs. I think I'm leading toward the black version, although both are nice combinations. I'm not really going to write up an in-depth review as the faults and flaws have already been flogged to death so I'll just pass on a few pics.
  3. I've had two. The first was the much hyped and anticipated V5 DSSD and I just had to have one. I think I wore it outside the homestead a whole 2 or 3 times! It felt like I had secured a hockey puck to my wrist with a shoestring and it went to live with somebody else. The second was the "Orange Hand" Explorer. Dial way to busy and it looked "cartoonish". I'm glad it was a cheap one as I don't think I ever wore it outside where anybody could see me...
  4. I just don't like green! The fugliest feature on any of them is the "bulbous" pearl on the PC example!!
  5. I have had First Class take that long to Italy but to UK and Germany is about 2 weeks average...
  6. I have done the case-back on my Ranger. I still have a little nubbin in the middle of the case back due to having to turn off the current Prince Date era engraving in the lathe. I think I will use the mill to remove the current engraving on the next one. Nubbin aside, I engraved at half the depth of my first test and I think it turned out fairly well. I'll get some better pics if the sun ever comes back out! Hopefully I will be able to bring some relief to the oft' neglected Tudor Community!
  7. I'm going to try another later on. I think I engraved this one a bit too deep...
  8. It's cousin should be in my hands tomorrow... Today is a Ranger sort of day...
  9. I finally finished my CAD tracing of the case-back engraving on my gen Prince Oysterdate example and processed it into CNC G-Code. My coated carbide engraving bits came in today so I pulled out an old case back I had been experimenting with and gave it a whirl. I had to machine a fixture to hold the case back that could be clamped down to the work surface on the engraver so once that was finished I screwed the case-back onto the fixture and let 'er rip! I should be able to engrave on pretty much anything that is flat and I can do a tracing of whatever into AutoCad and make a G-Code file from it. I'm almost excited...
  10. Today's for the Explorer's little cousin...
  11. It looks very suspicious that the "big three" would be whacked at the same time. The only ones who would have anything to gain would be the "gen boyz" and it would not surprise me if they were at the root of it. Poor RWI was the first to come back up and about 4 out of 5 times I tried accessing a page yesterday evening I got a "server too busy" error!
  12. Here's my "change-up" pitch...
  13. LH - If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna fly over and have you show me all of these fantastic chunks of real estate you post!
  14. Let's get this party started!
  15. Been wearing this for the past couple of days...
  16. Looking good, although I think you might have went about it the hard way. I'm planning on just dropping a little weld on the tips of the CGs of mine and getting out the file...
  17. Sly, good to know and glad you were able to get the band resized. One of these days I'm gonna figure out how to do that without leaving teeth marks on the links... As far as my wife's concerned the smaller the better. I have a really old Tudor hand-wind movement and dial that is way smaller than a Ladies DJ that I may try to make some kind of locket/pendant style case for it to go in. It's almost small enough to put into a large ring!
  18. Drop me a PM... Oh, think your package got here today!
  19. I got in a shipment of new movements and decided it was time to put this gen dial to use. It's an NOS mid-size dial with I guess you would call it linen texture. I teamed this dial up with a rep case and band and a new Asian Clone 2836 movement. I thought my wife would like this but she put it on for about 5 seconds, proclaimed, "It looks like a man's watch...", and took it off. I told her that this was now the trendy ladies size but she doesn't care and won't wear anything larger than a Ladies DJ so this will probably be going to the for-sale section... Here's some pix:
  20. Grifter, you won't be the first that Ubi's led to ruin - ruined bank account, anyway!
