  1. I have always use a thread extractor without any problems . Sometimes a 3 sided file will also work, but I find that it isn't as easy as using the thread extractor
  2. Hi and thanks for that. I don't put blue tack on top of the DWO itself, but 2 or 3 very fine strands (or should I say fibre thin) underneath the DWO metal shiny part and place it directly onto the movement datewheel. It is more to just hold it in place so that I can manipulate it while placing the dial over it while turning the quickset to make sure digits are all showing evenly in the date window of the dial. Once I am happy with this, I remove dial and mark with a fine marker of both mating DWO & date wheel so that I can remove the blue tack and match them after putting 4 small dots of adhesive so that it is easy to remove at service time. Just like dummy shaft like when replacing the clutch in the car. There isn't enough blue tack to be seen without a loupe, and if left there, it is between the DWO and the datewheel of the mvt. The silver metal piece should hopefully be of some protection. I have tried slow setting epoxy but I wasn't good at the results. My lack of skills was the problem!
  3. I understand where you are coming from! here it is illegal to drive a car without footwear! There are certain places where you are not even allowed admittance without proper footwear. Any injuries to feet not safely covered receive no compensation from insurance companies especially in shopping centres! There was a case like that here not long ago!
  4. Greetings friends, following to one of my previous threads regarding to finding a movement for dial feet which were for a DG movement, I had to overcome just one more hurdle. I needed a datewheel overlay. That was the easy part, but having failed putting one on an eta, I considered in finding a way on not stuffing up again. While I was using blu tack to hang up a poster, it struck me to try out an experiment. I got my 3c tweezer and started pulling some very fine strands of blu tack fibers. I then placed some on the original datewheel, enough to grip the DWO, followed by placing the dial over it to see how it lined up. I then rotated the rapid date change until I saw some figures out of line. If out of line, I removed the dial and slowly turned the datewheel to get them right. Once achieved, I marked out with a very fine permanent marker on the edge of the DWO to the edge of the original date wheel. I then removed the DWO with the blu tack and put 4 tiny dots of superglue with an old oiler just enough to hold on. This makes it easy for later when removing it again for when doing further repairs or servicing . I then matched the markers with the two overlapping date wheels and placed the dial back on again. I repeated the rapid date Change to make sure it still lined up and presto it s on. If you are not confident with removing the DWO once you have placed it on the blue tack, you can leave it on I and just put tiny dabs of superglue on the edges of the two overlapping datewheels. Hope this may be of use to someone!!!
  5. Replacing it with an eta may not be that simple!! If your case was made for a DG3804 movement, then because of the difference in movement.thickness you may run into problems as the eta is slightly thinner and stem hole may not line up with stem. Similar problem with interchanging a 2824 and a 2836 in same case!! As for regulating the DG movement, I did not have this problem as somehow it was already regulated!! Possibly a fluke!!
  6. Well I actually promised it to a workmates son. I am just getting the bracelet ready as well. There is one fault with the bezel which has a missing pin, which like the head of a spring bar which clicks against the inside ratchet.. It is different to a click spring. The bezel swing in both directions perpetually. These DG movements are ok for what one pays as they cost more to service than to replace. I usually get that 2 out of 5 DG mvts have a tendency to stop when you least expect them to. Wished I knew what the genuine citizen replacement is? thanks to all for your input
  7. Here it is!! Nothing special !!! This was saved from the dust bin from my cobbler who also changes watch batteries. He gets a lot of offers by the public who sell watches to him so they can afford to eat here in this new 3rd world country. This was presented to him for a battery change but customer left it to him upon discovering that it was waterlogged and had stem broken at the crown. The Cobbler asked me if I wanted it to let my small children play with it. As it turned out I am the small kid. It has a screw n case tube and a scratch proof crystal, so for a cheap mvt replacement cost of $35, I will see how Long a piece of string really is. I am waiting for the correct datewheel overlay as seller sent me wrong one.
  8. Well that is another story!!! Disappointing to say the least!!!! After all my efforts, he changed his mind and prefers quartz accuracy!!!! Some people (including very wealthy) have no sense of quality or understanding & are too tied up with going with the flow in always following to Mr. Moron. I even offered to buy it , but no go! I told him that I was not comfident with his request and to approach someone else to commit this crime!! For some a watch is nothing more than something that tells the time and very much an anachronism Thanks!,Will try later!,
  9. Would love to. As soon as I have sorted out replacing photobucket with something more reliable and user friendly. Am overdue with lots of images in need to be uploaded!!
  10. Update!! Greetings gentlemen, I'm response to my original enquiry, I received my Dg 3804 after almost 5 weeks. it fitted perfectly onto my dial with the feet position that I mentioned in my opening post. I thought in commenting for those that were also unsure if this was the correct movement. Hope this helps!! I believe that Citizen also make their genuine movement which has the same dimensions and dial feet position, but am not sure of the caliber number!
  11. Watchmaking schools or more precisely watch technician schools are exactly that -a school!!!! since when has anyone ever learnt anything from school??? No, seriously??? I know some good tradespeople that are good at what they do, but that is where it starts and stops!!! Ask them to improvise or modify or think outside the square and you will be shocked to see how red with embarrassment they turn. Here is a different fraternity altogether, where new frontiers are met and challenged at every move. So strictly speaking this forum is like a research university. Any skilled musician can learn to play Bach, Mozart or anything that is put in front of him, but can they all be creative and improvise?? I leave this to the individual to reach their own conclusion. I too trust only those here and I better not start mentioning any names in case I miss someone out. It is a privilege and honour to be here even at the bottom of the pecking order!!!
  12. Thanks!!! This forum is truly my second home!!!! It is always the case, that you could be looking a lifetime for a cure to an illness only for the.potion to come when the patient has just died. I will inform him of this as it is a shame for the watch to be molested with his request, especially an oversized 18k gold piece!!!! Thanks again!!
  13. So am I. Being wealthy in finances does not necessarily translate to wealthy in intellect!!! all kidding aside, this watch was accidentally damaged as it was caught in the washing machine amongst some jeans. When it was brought to me I was surprised that the dial was intact but most of the movement had rusted. We looked for a donor movement for over a year without success, but owner is not as nutty as me with these as for him it is just a watch. I offered to buy it from him, but said it was sentimental belonging to his late grandfather from London. He and his wife are successful lawyers so he can buy mostly what the next impulse may be.
  14. This forum is a God send and I have learnt more from here than I probably ever did in school. Don't want to overlook other horology forums such as TZ and from iinput of other members - Automatico etc , but it is here that one learns to play the true jazz music of horology and to improvise well!! I am am having a similar problem in trying to find an equivalent eta quartz movement which will substitute an omega caliber 332 bumper wind that needs the same distance for the pinion holes between the sub seconds hand and the hour/minute hand. Weird request from a neighbour to replace their movement in an 18k gold seamaster. That is another story!! Thanks again for the link. Again very interesting reading!!!! Of course I need to do more homework on which movement to get as there deems to be some confusion as to what I need to do as I only get one shot at this cheap trick! LOL!!
  15. Thanks for your reply!!!! especially for the link which is something that I have been seeking for years, which answers 1000 other questions that are not easily accessible!!! from that table,I am now confident that from dial feet positions,it is a DG 3804B and even better a seagull St1622 will also do hopefully being better quality??? I just hope that all the data is accurate as there is an error with one of the eta mvts dial feet where a 2783 has same feet locations as the later generation eta 2824/2836, which is not true!!! Believe me I tried them out and are slightly off
  16. Greetings friends, I am trying to replace a movement for a rolex GMT dial which has dial feet at 5.5 o'clock and at 11 o'clock. What movement would accommodate these dial feet positions??? The waterlogged movement has no number under the balance apart from the letters "N N". It is for a work mate's son, so I have no idea of what mvt , nor where it comes from, is as I have only ever used eta's. If anyone knows of a better quality movement that will also substitute the dial feet, he is willing to pay to get it fixed properly as it is sentimental to him. Not my cup of tea!!! Thanks in advance!!!
  17. Thanks!!!! good lead! However, still no luck so I am still looking
  18. wishing you also a safe and speedy recovery!!!!
  19. Was unaware of this especially in keeping track on everything!,, I now totally understand and respect these decisions. Back to the drawing board!
  20. Thanks!!!! I had thought of TC first, but somehow seems to be on hiatus I need to contact TC for something else as well, but have not been too successful. I would appreciate if someone could inform me of his current contact details just to be certain??
  21. I have seen all sorts of eta dials made for subs, explorers Gmt's etc. available for sale but never for a yacht master. I know they are not that popular, but am seeking one to replace for someone that I gifted it to. The only ones I have seen for yacht master are for the DG 2813 which is not suitable. Does anyone know where I can source a good condition one for a basic mainstream eta rep - preferably in white or light sprinkle grey ? Thanks!!!i
  22. As far as I know, Star Time Supply are wholesalers and only sell to those that have a parts account that usually order from them for a living as opposed to those that are not watchmakers. Interestingly, their solid gold sub comes complete with bezel minus insert and I cannot help wondering why the stainless see one doesn't . Great stuff to say the least. Yuki also had a case which is now discontinued, but am not sure if it has a removable crystal ring?
  23. If I am not mistaken, I believe that the SSD V2 modified by Jackjo had this setup. I don't exactly remember as those had working HEV valves as opposed to ones that are just cosmetic. I believe that the Steinhart submariners and the Squale submariners also have a crystal retaining ring set up as they are suppose to be water resistant up to 300 meters. I have never really come across to a genuine submariner lookalike watch of any other brand that uses the press in crystal. Someone that has can fill me in on this ?????? I guess that this is one of the reasons why most submariner replicas can be frowned upon as not being water resistant beyond a dip in the bucket or a swim or dive in shallow water. The submariner replicas that use acrylic crystals have the same sort of set up as the genuine vintage acrylic crystal subs, making them a more closer cousin to the 1680 and 551X terms of water resistant quality. You would be better off buying a new generic case with crystal already inserted as the crystal and seal would not be that much cheaper. If someone cannot help you here, there are lots of them on ebay. Good luck!!!!
  24. I vote this post to be put in the sticky section where all the forum rules are!!!!!
  25. Its a first to me. I remember that the omega 562 is a non quick set and was 0.05mm shorter than the quickset omega 565 which I recall fitted in both of my omega cases that had same reference number 166.010. I suppose the same could be extrapolated with the rolex cases The dial feet should just break off by gently rotating them with small pliers. It is soldering new ones that is the challenge. Dial dots are hopeless as they seem to move with time!!! Makes me even more hopeless!!!!!LOL!!!
