Dealt with him also, M. is a true gentleman. Hope this helps... -
WOW! Both are incredible dials, the double red is scary close to the gen MkIV! The 1680 is a pity because it has a mk1 crown with mk2 text and the word "submariner" in a mk2 must be printed in red over white (the mk1 was printed only in red) Seem he has the skills to make a 1:1 can't wait your 6538

Have mine already finished (well, waiting NDT comex dial) and my impressions are very positive... HH has been done a great effort to replicate the 5514 case and he's very close to the real deal; IMHO there are only several thing to worked out: * the inner ring of the case (where the dial sits) is a bit bold, needs to be shaved * lugholes needs a bit of work to accomodate properly the gen 580 endlinks (the space between the hole and the case is a bit narrow so it needs to be placed a bit outside) * the conical part of the tube hole (where the tube fits once screwed) must be wider, otherwise the gen tube once installed doesn't sit properly Contrary as HH wrote, the bezel seems ok compared to the gen, in fact I tried both in the case and has no problem to use a gen one. Insert fits with a bit of pressure, nothing serious... Overall, those are minor issues, HH has one of the best cases in the market and the best for sure in terms of price/quality. And he shows us a very important lesson specially now at days when there are a lot of complaints about the "professional" dealers offering pieces: we are huge community with a lot of different skills and resources... we MUST have a commitment to produce all the important part we use to make our waches: HH himself, TC, Whoopy... are working hard to bring to the light the parts we're waiting for (in most cases) or we're paying for (enormous amount of money). So, we MUST have also the commitment to help those guys to continue with their efforts... Don't know how, crowfunding, raising money for them, helping with our gen pars to get it measured, scanned or whatever, trying to organize a small group of pals to assist them... Let's debate about that! Finally, some eye candy after vintagizing the case and adding some gen parts:

If you're going to push on a 5514 dial let me know if I can help in any way

Case received! First and foremost: it fits 1570 movements perfectly and the same for ETA with the ring supplied! (sorry for the pics, have to time to set up the camera) Endlinks fits more or less fine but need a bit of work: J case next to a gen 5512... who's who? Finally, while I'm waiting for a proper 5514 dial I use in the test a Yuki ones (forgot to order the hands...). Nice dial for the money, I was very surprised about the quality! Great job! thank you very much for your effort J, you made a nice case. My only concern is about the diameter of the inner ring, seems a bit wider than the gen. Otherwise it's a real 99,9% case! Hope you like it

Sorry to hear that... that's a f**king mess dealing with those sellers.... I was waiting for a 5514 also, time to find another dealer Hope you get your money back and stay with the ebay dial, it's amazing!

Opinions : Daytona - Paul Newman Dial for 6239/6241 Build

Mine too, wrong subdial font @6 and wrong t-swiss-t but otherwise amazing... go for it! -
WOW! Amazing builds, wear it in good health. Un abrazo J.

Would U ming sharing your seller?, I'm planning to stick several of those movements... Thanks

IMHO you're wrong Freddy, chapter ring was used on gilt 5512 during the "radium era" (till end '62 more or less) with "swiss" at 6. During the end of 1962 and early 63 you can find some gilt 5512 with "swiss" at 6 without chapter ring but with the famous underline (people still debating if this underline means tritium instead radium but who knows...). From early 63 to the matte meters first dial there are some 5512s with gilt dial without chapter ring but with "swiss - t<25" at 6. So, depending on your serial you will find gilt (or glossy) dials with and without minute track. The only combinations that doesnt exist are matte+chapter ring and gilt+chapter ring+ "swiss - t<25" My 0'02€

torresp replied to chocho's topic in The Rolex Area
Building a franken 6538 or 5510 is the most difficult task in the vintage catalogue (ever harder than V72 daytos). There are no perfect case in the market, Phong sometimes is close to the real deal but the best one INMO are the casesets from Ming Q but the quality vary so need to ask them from time to time. Other aspect is the very curves lugs, never replicated properly in the cases. The most close franken I've build is this one: - Ming case - CWP bezel, insert (bleached) and hands - NDT dial (the best hands down) - gen movement - gen tropic 17 - Yuki 7206 I prefer the vintage look so made a bit of work on the case and there is the result: Good luck with your project! -

torresp replied to edgematic1's topic in The Audemars Piguet Area
Great review. Thanks for sharing! Just a question: is the crown on the rep located in the same height than the gen? to my eye seems more close to the upper border (to the bezel) Thks -
Ok, thanks for the reply
