  1. The V2 is not true DLC, it has none of the hardness properties of avitt's DLC I have been wearing this watch all week, at work at home, only taking it off to sleep of course, and it is spotless, not a mark on it anywhere...... The V2 I owned was marked up after a couple of days wear, with little scratches and hairlines on the case and buckle
  2. The custom DLC coating is excellent, as is avitt's work ethic The coating on the V2 looks close to the gen, but scratches as easily as any of my other PVD watches, the buckle in particular picked up marks with the greatest of ease..... The custom DLC blacksteel has yet to pick up any marks at all, even when I have worn it at work! You really trust the Twins with the description of the products they sell? Classic! This from trustytime and the V2 watch description: "CASE MATERIAL: Blackened Surface Treatment to same shade and tone as genuine (Anti Dust & Finger Print) - Process similar to genuine. Solid Stainless Steel 316L" Cheers!
  3. Yes indeed, why use a new pristine watch, when you can breath new life into a beat up old one? As long as the crystal and dial are in good shape, the watch will come back better than new!
  4. Yes, it is PVD on the V2. Even the twin's advertise it is PVD coating, "similar" to that used on the gen. If it were real DLC, don't you think they would be using it as a selling point? Plus I have owned the V2, it picked up scratches really easily, not like avitt's DLC Cheers!
  5. The V2 was not $300 (I think it is actually $350+shipping, no?) when this coating process was initially started I had a beat up crappy PVD'ed V1 to hand, that I would never wear or be able to sell, and I had a good dial, so why not? Plus the V2 does not use a real DLC coating, but normal PVD
  6. Thanks, it did come out well I am pretty sure this is the only re-coated Skyland, so it could have gone either way. However I think avitt's preparation and attention to detail was 100% the key to the success!
  7. The bead blasting, coating and watch dissection with return shipping was about $300 I think Prices vary, depending upon the total area of metal to be coated.....
  8. Certainly worth considering, although I don't have a spare bracelet right now, but maybe in the future.... Would be a real test of the DLC scratch resistance too
  9. Well avitt I really hope you have other uses for those bezel tools, I certainly wouldn't want you to be out of pocket! Although, as you say, you have probably used the tools for other watches, I remember your thread with dozens of DLC coated watches and parts on a desk! Cheers!
  10. I should also say a big thanks to Bricciola, who put everything back together in double quick time, thanks!
  11. Yep the original V1 finish was really bad, I was even going to just bead blast everything at one stage to get rid of it, but thought why not go the final distance and get the DLC coating too, a good decision in my book The strap was only $30 from here: http://www.thewatchboys.com/breitling-styl...titch-p-80.html It is 22/18mm not 22/20, so the buckle has a mm gap on each side, as the strap is a little too thin, but it does not bother me.....
  12. The bezel was removed, yes, but it was a royal pain in the ass from what avitt told me The pearl was destroyed in the coating process, but avitt expertly replaced it with a solid lume compound, and the result looks very nice indeed.....
  13. I received my Blacksteel back from avitt a few weeks ago, and have finally had it all put back together! The case was bead blasted, and then coated with avitt's DLC treatment. The result is one sweet looking Breitling, so much better than before, as it was a V1 with horrible black PVD..... Here are some pictures! Click to expand.... What do you guys think? I really like the finish and colour of the watch, it resists scratching well too! Thanks very much avitt, anyone wanting to get their watches coated, do not hesitate to contact avitt, he is a true gent, and works to the highest standards! Comments and observations welcome!
  14. Great job! This is the kind of thing I need to do with my WM9 Yachtmaster, although it will be easier with the ETA 2824 I think Cheers!
  15. I have had items sit in customs for 7 days, and sometimes they are released within a few hours, totally random....
  16. Nice watch in terms of replication and construction, but I would never wear it, I don't buy watches just to keep them in a display box!
  17. Doesn't look like a full ceramic case to me, more like PVD coated steel..... The case finish 100% matches the bracelet finish, which is quoted as being PVD, so I would think the only thing ceramic on that watch would be the bezel.... Look at the bezel finish, and then compare it to the case and bracelet, clearly a different material used Cheers!
  18. Thanks Tribal, it seems this mod has been done before quite a few times, which bodes well for me!
  19. Pictures look fine to me, thanks! The date looks excellent, filling the window perfectly and centered too, hopefully mine will look the same some day soon!
  20. Thanks very much indeed guys, I really appreciate all your help! Certainly sanding down the ETA wheel makes a great deal of sense, no need to touch the gen disc at all! My WM9 has the 2824 movement, but that should cause no problems I think..... Just a case of finding the right man for the job now! I picked up the gen disc for about $45, I think that was a good price, no? I look forward to seeing some pictures too, thanks sander!
  21. Hey that is fantasic news indeed! Do you have any pictures of your watch please? I would love to see how it turned out Thanks very much!
  22. Well I have the WM9 watch, and the gen date disc, but that is it. So I have nothing to compare too..... I don't want to (nor could I) do this myself, but just want to find out if it can be done, in terms of measurements. I am thinking the gen date disc could be used as the overlay, in place of the existing rep overlay......
  23. I managed to pick up a genuine Rolex date disc The disc is clean, no marks How easy (or possible) is it for this to be installed as the date overlay on the WM9 Yachtmaster? I am unsure how the date overlay system works, and if the measurements would be OK My current date disc overlay has a scratch on number 4 and a couple of the dates are not aligned..... Cheers!
  24. I managed to pick up a genuine Rolex date disc The disc is clean, no marks How easy is it for this to be installed as the date overlay on the WM9 Yachtmaster?
  25. They look well cut and straight, I have yet to see any crooked ones, but that may change as more peeps post their pictures!
