  1. Ditto above (nice work ), but, at this level, I would also install a working He valve, gen handset & widen the 6 & 9 index marks to match the gen.
  2. Plexiglas (plastic) tends to lose some of its elasticity with age, which can leave it brittle &/or with a tendency to develop hairline cracks that may appear with pressure/temperature changes.
  3. Wearing 1 of my Newmans today
  4. It is being worked on & options are being considered. We appreciate your patience.
  5. Are you sure the T17 you tried was gen (& the case was a 5510)? Removing a crystal from a sealed package is no longer a 100% guarantee of authenticity. On the other hand, if you are sure it was gen, then you should let Phong know since 1 of his claims to fame (& reason for charging the prices he does) is that his cases are made to gen specs & will accept all the correct gen parts.
  6. A T38? I think you want a T116 for your 1675, which are relatively easy to acquire on ebay.
  7. Something changed at VRF about 2 years ago. Previously, the merest mention of elective parts swapping, regardless the reason, would likely result in your post being edited, heavily, & your account possibly terminated (speaking from experience). Now, threads detailing searches for & installation of faded bezels, brown dials, iffy lume & the like are commonplace & some of the most popular. While I think it is good to tone down the iron grip a bit, I am not sure that their currently open & free attitude towards modifications is a good thing, as it adds to the confusion & liabilities involving gen collecting.
  8. T17 7206 or 6636, either with 80 end links.
  9. Ending the work week wearing my Cosmo'beater
  10. Interesting, if questionable, comment (by Steve) about a new release of superdomes here.
  11. Although I did add a bit of enhanced patination, the dial in my 6536/1 came from MQ
  12. Not a criticism, just trying to make you aware. But good luck at the AD.
  13. I hate to say it, but it looks like a rep.
  14. yes, that is the 1 - watchny.
  15. No aftermarket dial/case is perfect, all have accuracies. YOU must research & decide which component's inaccuracies bother YOU the most. In general, if cost is an object, Yuki is the best buy for component parts. If accuracy trumps cost, Phong is usually the best (but still not perfect & his quality varies, so be prepared to work with him). In any case, if you want the best, expect to do some additional modifications on the case yourself (or find someone to do it for you).
  16. Check to see if your phone has a macro setting. A watch like that deserves (much) better pics. Congratulations, either way.
  17. As the gloom approaches, thinking it might be useful to have a date in the coming days, I switched over to my beater Monday afternoon
  18. Yes, good luck on the hunt. You might consider searching ebay for 1 of the aftermarket bezels like this (almost an exact match with the 4th generation gen - sorry, but I do not recall seller's name, but I believe there was a thread about these bezels a couple of months ago)
  19. Whoever wrote that knows as much about Newman Daytonas as the typical gen Rolex owner knows about his watch (nothing).
  20. Beautiful (albeit a bit loud for my tastes) watch, but not a Paul Newman (Newmans are 62xx Valjoux-powered models with exotic dials made from the early 60s until the late 80s).
