3-4 years ago, I posted a thread detailing my experience with a diy dial soldering station I put together from instructions in an old quartz watch repair guide. Unfortunately, the thread was 1 of those that got lost during 1 of the rwg upgrades, but, like I said, I was unsuccessful in securing feet without damaging the dial.
Try your luck with copper dial feet & epoxy or seek out an experienced watchmaker with the appropriate equipment (or find a dial/movement combo that matches).
Interesting. However, since none of the graphite-treated watches I have worked on have failed & the material costs only a few dollars & requires only disassembly of the relocation plate/wheels (though a full overhaul is recommended to head-off the usual problems that stem from used/unserviced movements, which can also stop a secs @ 6 movement), I am not sure this is a better option?
In any case, I would encourage Domenico to post pics of the procedure.
I fit Rolex movements into my 4+ year old MBW 5514 & 1665 cases (as well as working He valves). I had to do a bit of reshaping (dremeling/polishing) of both cases & the 1575's calendar ring, but they can be made to fit if you are willing to expend the effort.
I do not believe ETA hands will fit a 15xx movement. At least I could never get them to fit.
You need a particular type of soldering station (& alot of experience) to properly attach dial feet to a painted dial. Unfortunately, the equipment is rare & watchmakers with the proper experience are rarer still. Sometimes, you can epoxy copper dial feet (available from most watch parts houses) onto a dial & they stick. Sometimes, not (I have never been successful in (permanently) repositioning or attaching dial feet).
Ingod generally buys a handful of various dials & only posts until he sells that set off. So, eventually, he will be back once he has more dials to sell.
The best dial I have seen is the 1 in my watch (I later had it relumed), which came from an unknown ebay seller a few years ago. I do not recall his ebay name & have not seen him since then
Relaxman - There is likely a team of bureacrats huddled around an image enhancement screen at an undisclosed location around Washington, DC trying to decipher the facial details of the suspect that just photographed a timing device in front of a Homeland Security vehicle.
I would say that your suppositions are, for the most part, wrong.
In most cases, cases are sold because the movement was parted out for use in a franken. In these cases, the condition tends to be good. But if the seller fails to post good, clear pics of the entire case, he/she is trying to hide something. As always, buy the seller before you buy the watch.
I was thinking the same thing, but I am more ambivalent about the dial & position of the date wheel in the date window? I have not seen enough (verified) 1665 service dials to make any final judgements, but my gut tells me something does not look right there.
I think I recall seeing it, but I cannot say for sure where? I also have not purchased any reps for quite awhile, but, when I did/do, I generally only deal with Andrew, Josh or Yuki, so you might want to start there.
