And I thought the DSSD just looked silly on me.

Firefox has 2 add-on Extensions that I could not live without - Adblock Plus (which blocks ads from appearing or being downloaded to your computer) & NoScript (which removes potentially dangerous scripts & allows you to manually remove others). The two, combined, allow pages to load much faster (since advertisements & unwanted animations tend to be the largest components of web pages) & reduce the overall noise, which makes web browsing much more enjoyable. Does Safari offer anything similar?

Wow, tremendous shots, gentlemen. Kudos to all.

A Good Reason to Learn to Repair Your Own Rolex

It seems to me that there are 2 groups of people in the world - those who take watches too seriously & everyone else. While the former, having just been willed dead uncle Wilfred's DRSD (also DOA), would do whatever it takes to get the timepiece running again, the latter group, I believe, upon hearing the costs Rolex charges to revive it, would either eagerly post the money-maker on ebay or, if sentiment trumps greed, toss it (ever so lovingly) into the bottom of a safe/drawer/cupboard & live with the knowledge that uncle Willie's ticker -- the 1 that remains above ground -- is well taken care of. Restoring vintage/collectible watches, as is the case with vintage/collectible cars, has always & will always be exceptionally expensive. This I know having spent several years restoring vintage/collectible cars &, now, (mainly Rolex) watches. But, when I began this thread, I was thinking more of the average, modern Rolex & the increasingly prohibitive costs Rolex levies against the average Rolex owner for regular maintenance. In previous years, an owner always had the option of taking his/her Rolex to an independent, Rolex-trained watchmaker, who, while perhaps not within the official Rolex service network, was still able to access it for parts. Sadly, with Rolex's recent clamping down on these independents, that option no longer exists. Or, at least, the door of opportunity will close as each watchmaker's parts supply runs out. Imagine having to sell your 5 year-old Datejust or GMT because the AD never made it clear that Rolex recommends (& requires, if you want them to honor the warranty) overhauls (that only Rolex can perform) every 5-7 years, the cost of which may soon exceed the purchase price of the watch. Even for Rolex, which has often been known to try to squeeze every last cent out of their customers over the years, that is pretty poor. -
Wow. Ok, you win. That is some nice picture taking, Nanuq!

I was thinking the same thing.

We appear to have come full-circle as this was exactly my original point. -
The purpose of the hacking feature is to make it easier for you, the owner, to set the time. So use whatever setting makes it easier for you.

There is a very big difference, as I see it, between modified Porsches or Mercedes cars & modified Rolexes - Porsche & Mercedes copies are rare (I have never actually seen a Porsche or Mercedes copy in the real world) while Rolex copies are ubiquitous, outnumbering gens & by a vast margin. To be clear, I would love to still be able to buy Rolex parts over-the-counter as I did back in the 80s. But I can also see that Rolex had to do something to stem the hemorrhaging of gen parts into the black market, especially in the Internet age where everything is just a click away. I think it was fair & reasonable to leave control of (localized) parts distribution up to the individual members within the Rolex service network. -
There are few exclusives between rep sellers, so it is unlikely that a rep on 1 site is not available on thousands of others. As to the dealers in your title, I do not know the latter, but the former is 1 of the dealers listed in our Watches forums. They are 1 of the best in my opinion.

My UEs should be here any day now & I just replaced the battery & HD (going from the oem's 15gb to a massive 20gb) in my iPod &, now that it is running optimally, I am toying with the idea of adding an outboard headphone amp/DAC. As most of my iPod usage comes (under a helmet) while motorcycling, it makes no sense to go high-end with this, but your comments above inspired me to do a bit poking around for something reasonably priced that would improve the sound a bit. I found this Nuforce Icon Mobile portable headphone amplifier/DAC that looks interesting Do you or anyone else have experience with the Nuforce Icon or something of a similar size/price that will improve the overall sound beyond my 2nd-gen iPod's standard output? It also needs to be removable so I can use the iPod in my cars, which connect via the iPod's docking jack, which looks to be feeding the ALO's input in your setup. Anyone?

Have you tried the Watches forums? If it is not listed (as unlikely as that is), I am sure a number of dealers can source it for you.

Looks like a DW to me. Due to the lack of QC, there are variations with these cases (& their components). The external dimensions of DW's 62xx Daytona cases are all the same, regardless of which movement it was made to fit internally. The only way to know what you have is to open the case & check.

Like it or not, that is the definition Rolex uses, so their 'fans' (like me) have little choice in the matter. -
I would take claims from most ebay sellers with a huge grain of salt, but if Ofrei says theirs is 2.5x, then it is 2.5x.

Great pic (reminds me of some of Avitt's, which were the impetus for my early DW builds) & still a beauty. You might give some thought to toning down the newness of the pushers a bit. I slightly sand/polish the upper edges of the pusher buttons & apply a wee bit of silicone grease to the exposed section of the pusher shaft, which will discolor to a nice rust color. Certainly, your watch looks stunning as it is & this bit of enhanced patina is barely perceptible, but, as they say, God is in the details

A Good Reason to Learn to Repair Your Own Rolex

The saddest part about this is that with Rolex tightening restrictions on the parts supply, independent watchmakers, many of whom were Rolex-trained & who do not have the luxury of spending hours/days/weeks trolling ebay, are no longer functionally able to repair a Rolex watch. This, increasingly, leaves the average gen owner with no other option than to bend over & repeat that famous line from Animal House - 'Thank you, Sir. May I have another?' I looked up the word 'monopoly' in the dictionary & it said 'Take it to your local RSC'.
