  1. My UEs should be here any day now & I just replaced the battery & HD (going from the oem's 15gb to a massive 20gb) in my iPod &, now that it is running optimally, I am toying with the idea of adding an outboard headphone amp/DAC. As most of my iPod usage comes (under a helmet) while motorcycling, it makes no sense to go high-end with this, but your comments above inspired me to do a bit poking around for something reasonably priced that would improve the sound a bit. I found this Nuforce Icon Mobile portable headphone amplifier/DAC that looks interesting Do you or anyone else have experience with the Nuforce Icon or something of a similar size/price that will improve the overall sound beyond my 2nd-gen iPod's standard output? It also needs to be removable so I can use the iPod in my cars, which connect via the iPod's docking jack, which looks to be feeding the ALO's input in your setup. Anyone?
  2. Have you tried the Watches forums? If it is not listed (as unlikely as that is), I am sure a number of dealers can source it for you.
  3. Looks like a DW to me. Due to the lack of QC, there are variations with these cases (& their components). The external dimensions of DW's 62xx Daytona cases are all the same, regardless of which movement it was made to fit internally. The only way to know what you have is to open the case & check.
  4. Why oh why?
  5. Like it or not, that is the definition Rolex uses, so their 'fans' (like me) have little choice in the matter.
  6. I would take claims from most ebay sellers with a huge grain of salt, but if Ofrei says theirs is 2.5x, then it is 2.5x.
  7. Great pic (reminds me of some of Avitt's, which were the impetus for my early DW builds) & still a beauty. You might give some thought to toning down the newness of the pushers a bit. I slightly sand/polish the upper edges of the pusher buttons & apply a wee bit of silicone grease to the exposed section of the pusher shaft, which will discolor to a nice rust color. Certainly, your watch looks stunning as it is & this bit of enhanced patina is barely perceptible, but, as they say, God is in the details
  8. The saddest part about this is that with Rolex tightening restrictions on the parts supply, independent watchmakers, many of whom were Rolex-trained & who do not have the luxury of spending hours/days/weeks trolling ebay, are no longer functionally able to repair a Rolex watch. This, increasingly, leaves the average gen owner with no other option than to bend over & repeat that famous line from Animal House - 'Thank you, Sir. May I have another?' I looked up the word 'monopoly' in the dictionary & it said 'Take it to your local RSC'.
  9. No problem. Glad you figured it out.
  10. NYC Rolex RSC charge to replace ss clasp & perform standard, 5-year overhaul on a 16610 Sub (5-week turn-around)
  11. The watch head is a work of art , but I think you may need a better bracelet. Scratch the comment about the bracelet. I thought it was 1 of those cheesy cheap rivets. I missed the Yuki bracelet ingredient. Well done.
  12. Not to worry, Teejay, none taken.
  13. The watch in your tagline displays fine, so either there is a problem with the profile picture, your image host or the way you posted it. To try to eliminate the possible causes, try posting your profile picture here in a message. If it displays correctly, then we know the image file itself is ok.
  14. An official statement will likely be forthcoming, but, for now, just know that, as Bill suggested, the relevant parties have been identified & the related attacks against Josh's & Andrew's sites have ended.
  15. In all seriousness, are you kidding? In the 1920s, when radium (not tritium) dials were painted by hand, many of the (mostly) women who did this work were instructed to wet the tips of their brushes with their tongues to keep the brush point sharp. Over time, the radium they consumed collected in their bones, mostly in their jaws, which resulted in serious degeneration & tumors. Rolex has neither made nor installed red Sub or SD dials for many (more than 30) years.
  16. Thanks for popping in & have a great trip. Maybe you could take/post a few wristies along the way.
  17. Many US Rolex RSCs would probably not even touch it at this point due to its age. However, if they did service it, they would want to replace any components that no longer meet specs with current parts. If you decline their recommendation, they may return the watch to you, unserviced. In any case, because Rolex does not relume dials, having a vintage dial glowing brightly indicates a modified/fake dial. My criticism is simply that if function is more important than authenticity, why not choose a modern model that is easily readable in the dark?
  18. My gen 1986 16014 (tritium) http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l127/freddydynip/?action=view&current=MVI_1736.mp4 My gen 1959 OPD (tritium) http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l127/freddydynip/?action=view&current=MVI_1735.mp4
  19. Excepting the picture, the OP's watch has essentially the same dial as in my '58 OPD
  20. $55
  21. If Rolex serviced it, they would replace the dial with a modern dial. In that case, the dial would glow, but your watch would look like this (note the metal surrounds on the modern index markers)
  22. No side-by-side pics, but here is a pic of the movement being test-fit in the Yuki case
  23. Still wearing my 5+ year-old secs @ 6
