  1. Sometimes, you get lucky. 4 & 5+ years of trouble-free service & counting
  2. After dinner Friday evening
  3. Since I have never constructed a 1655 I could be wrong (I have not performed my usual extensive pre-construction research), but I believe the outer markers should contact the inner flange of the case. Taking versional differences into account, the dials in the 1655s in my picture archives & a couple of my books are all variations on this theme And the 7836 bracelet should be stamped like this with 258, 280, 358 or 380 end links Although the rep has a number of issues, for the price (assuming the bracelet does look like the gen 7836), I think it is a good platform to work with.
  4. Long time no-see, Pete, but it was worth the wait
  5. Ending the work week wearing my beater
  6. I think it is worth noting that none of the secs @ 6 Daytonas I have treated with powdered graphite (including the 1st test subject) have failed. Please do not IM me to request the treatment as I am no longer providing this service. However, Ziggy & other trusted RWG watchmakers can probably include it as part of an overhaul service, which should help to keep your watch running to spec.
  7. In most cases, the tube is a separate component from the middle case. And unless it has been epoxied in, you can usually unscrew it by sliding a triangular hobby file into the tube so that it is wedged into the tube & then unscrewing the tube. Often, a gen tube (which usually requires a gen crown) can be screwed into the existing hole. Sometimes, the hole may need to be cleared of cement/glue before the new tube can be installed, or you may need to tap the threading to clear it (most of the watch parts supply houses - ofrei.com, julesborel.com, cousinsuk.com, etc) sell taps made for Rolex tubes for less than $40). If you decide to replace the rep tube/crown with another rep tube/crown, peruse ebay for replacements.
  8. This 1 does not work for me. I love the gen platinum DD with the ice blue dial & stick markers. The dial on this rep is too busy & its color lacks that magic twinkle of the gen. I have yet to see a rep that gets the dial color correct, which is what makes that ice blue gen dial such a stunner.
  9. Wearing this While working towards this
  10. You will get the parts a few days after JB receives them (unless the backordered parts become 'obsolete' by the maker, but only JB or the maker can tell you if that might occur). I have experienced anything from a few weeks to infinity (for parts that turn out to be 'obsolete'). Especially, without knowing what parts you are waiting for, no one here can possibly tell you anything more. I assume you asked JB before posting here?
  11. Right. Probably best to cover all the bases
  12. This winder looks like it comes from Nanuq watch repair tool kit.
  13. While you had the tools out, why didn't you correct that spelling mistake on the diver's extension?
  14. Ditto.
  15. Wearing my white GMT
  16. Josh - Very good comparison & thanks for taking the time to post this. I would still recommend white or off-white markers as in this gen, which is the way the majority of gen 1655s appear today. White is also easier to replicate than the patina of natural aging (I have never seen an aftermarket dial get that right)
  17. Yes. My Phase I 6542 (at right) is 2846-powered (the GMT gearing was transplanted from 1 of Josh's 2836-powered 1675s) (My Phase II 6542 (at left) is gen-powered)
  18. Bracelet/endlink combos for the 1680 7206/80 9315/280 9315/380 93150/580
  19. Much better.
  20. Tweak the case & replace the dial (with white markers) & you might have something there.
