  1. Nice, but not (gen). Seller is a known aftermarket dial retailer, so I would take everything they list as 'gen' with a chokingly huge grain of salt.
  2. This is a nearly-universal rule & the most likely to hold true with the widest range of women
  3. Wearing this while conjuring (very slowly) my next project
  4. I would swap the dial & then post new pics. Your current dial is the weak point.
  5. I bet that 1 of our recommended collectors could put something together that is similar. Try Trusty or Perfect Clones - send them that pic & see if they can match it. They are out there. You just have to ask around (alot)

With the proper machinery, it should be relatively simple. The key will be getting a sample link to match. Beyond that, as long as the dimensions (including the gauge of metal) are 1:1, all you would need to do is brush the finish & you are good to go.
  7. Like I needed to be reminded (that is a yardstick (3') that is nearly buried with the snow still coming down)

Folded/riveted links are not listed (as separate items) in any of my parts books, but I do not have any vintage parts lists. I have also never seen any official descriptions of the type of steel used for these links, though I would guess it is the same steel that was used for vintage cases (316L). As far as Nanuq's DRSD bracelet goes, I think the only option (to tighten it up) is link replacement. Some of the links, as Nanuq observed, are clearly missing some metal

He replaced those links with NOS links. That is why the outer skins of the replaced links are not dimpled. Correct. It is relatively easy to replace the links without damage as long as you have access to a set of NOS replacements. Unfortunately, it has been several years since I last saw a set for sale. Though, I am sure they are out there (even if they are Asian-made ).

Rolex has a special tool/jig for opening/closing riveted/folded links that was fairly ubiquitous among professional watchmakers until the late 70s. These days, I believe only some RSCs have them. For us mere mortals, your only real options for riveted links are to grind the rivets off, remove/add links & replace the rivets (good luck finding replacements though), or unbending 2 links with a pair of screwdrivers (or whatever works for you), adding/removing a link & rebending them back. This latter option nearly always, in my experience, results in the bent links' outer skin being left somewhat dimpled or mangled. For folded links, the latter option is the only option.
  11. Yes & I believe there are pics in someone's book (Dowling maybe).

  13. Ditto. But if you want to see watches in & around London, click me.
  14. Over time, Kent seems to forget the details of the customer's original request, which is why these types of mistakes sometimes occur. Even if he does not respond, I think it is important to maintain email contact every 2 weeks or so. And, in each email, to reiterate the specifications of your work request. However, I would not demand anything or riddle him with more frequent messages.
  15. Not good. Have you contacted Kent yet? Also, can you post a pic showing the work he did?
  16. Whenever this question comes up, the image that always comes to mind is Avitt's 2 6263 Daytonas - 1 black dial & 1 silver dial, which were the catalyst for many other members' DW projects (including mine). Here is 1 of them
  17. I did forget about that & it seems to be running fine now. Thanks.
  18. JlC today
  19. Apparently, the system is also generating duplicate postings. Houston, I think we have a problem.
  20. It took nearly 4 minutes from the time I clicked the Start New Topic button until the edit screen appeared. traceroute looks normal & I am not experiencing slow response times from any other site, so I think the problem is at the server end (or thereabouts).
  21. As far as I know, the 1560 did not hack & it was in production until the mid-60s. Mods - RWG hiccuped & my reply, as you can see, got posted multiple times. Please edit & thanks.
