  1. If the jewel is damaged, it will need to be replaced. As far as I know, the pallet jewels on the A7750 are the same as the ETA version, so you can replace them (jewels cannot generally be repaired). Try julesborel.com or cousinsuk.com. Be sure, however, that you do not oil the pallet pivots - these should be left (clean &) dry. Remove the top plate that contains the redirection wheels & see if the movement runs. If it runs, then the graphite powder treatment should remedy the problem. But if it still does not run, then the problem lies elsewhere in the movement & will likely require a full service.
  2. Best price I have seen recently (ebay) was about $2,900 for a 10 year old no-date model.
  3. Great pic. Love the late day shadows.
  4. I would warn against feeling too confident based on this experience. Any professional watchmaker with more than a few years' experience working on gen Rolex watches should be able to tell a good rep from a gen when the former is in his hands. Most likely, these guys are either not as experienced as you think they are or their exposure to rep watches (beyond the Canal Street variety) is very limited.
  5. Ending the work week with a new (wet) shot of my old friend
  6. Congrads. Nice score. Unquestionably, a fine addition to any collection.
  7. Still Thursday afternoon here, but I am wearing my usual beater
  8. I have never seen a 6536 or 6536/1 with an 8mm crown. And since both models contained the same base 1030 movement, I cannot see any reason for fitting a thicker case.
  9. Can I ask what your source for this is? To the best of my knowledge, the difference between the 6536 & 6536/1 is that the latter's 1030 is chronometer-rated. Case dimensions for both are the same - 37mm diameter, 13mm thick (6538 is 38mm diameter, 15mm thick).
  10. Have the wheels always been sticking?
  11. Sorry to hear the bad news. If it is any consolation, I believe the economy is gaining strength & should be doing much better by the end of the summer. Unless, of course, you work for GM or Chrysler (or any of their dealer/suppliers). If so, I suspect things will get much worse before they get better. What field are you in?
  12. Can I just say WOW! Almost embarrassed to post after that, but I am wearing my usual beater today
  13. Alligoat covered almost everything, so I will just add that the main obstacle to creating an (accurate) 6538 is locating the 8mm Brevet crown, which will likely cost as much (if not more) than all of the other parts. An alternative would be to shift down to the 6536, which is similar to the '38, but uses a standard (& much less expensive) 6mm Twinlock or Brevet crown
  14. Somehow, I missed this thread yesterday. Another brilliant piece of work by Ziggy. He really IS an artist.
  15. How were all the parts cleaned, & what types of oils did you use on which parts & how were they applied (how much & using what tool)?
  16. By-Tor - Awaiting your new review.......... Dusted this off for the new work week
  17. Beater today (Saturday)
  18. General rule-of-thumb for Rolex pearls (this is not a hard-&-fast rule) - if the index markers on the dial have metal surrounds, so will the pearl. If they do not, then neither will the pearl.
  19. A 15xx will most definitely fit in an MBW Sub or SD case. Well, as long as the MBW case has a working Hev, they will
  20. Looks like a good beginning.
  21. Ending a rainy work week wearing my Daytona beater
  22. Using an Acetimer for over a year & no complaints (they also offer quads & octets)
