  1. Looks like a standard DW case to me (same serial number on mine). And I have an extra 1 of these made to fit a 7750 (bare mid-case (without pushers, crown or crystal & enlarged lug holes for 2mm springbars) & caseback only) for sale. PM me if interested.
  2. I think it is great that you know what you want & have set a goal for yourself to attain your dream watch. Just be sure that this is the watch you really want before you spend all your money. I have been collecting watches for many years & my tastes have changed alot since I was in my 20s. While the Defy is a clever piece of engineering, it is definitely a niche type of watch (meaning that it is like a fad, where it is popular today, but may not be so popular when the styles changes tomorrow), so I am not sure it will retain its value 5, 10 or 20 years into the future. Still, it sounds like you are well on your way to your goal of $25,000. So keep your eye on the prize & do not let anyone or anything deter you.
  3. Correct & I ran into the same problem with my double red. While modding the existing part is not a problem, it might be easier (& less chancy) for most to just swap theirs out with this part. Nice find, Stilty.
  4. The case does not look bad, it just looks like it may be a very recent vintage.
  5. The only way to know for sure if a case is a DW is to purchase it from DW (or have some paperwork showing the case was purchased from DW). But, generally, if the case specs match your description, it has the correct low-profile mid case & caseback & fits a V72, it should be a DW-style case (DW's case is available through other sellers, but do not ask me who - I have seen them for sale (mostly for higher prices) on numerous web & auction sites).
  6. 5508 movement was either 1530 or (chronometer rated) 1560. Dial is aftermarket & hands are not only incorrect for this model, but also mismatched (seconds hand does not match minute/hour hands). Case may also be aftermarket. If someone said this watch came from Phong, I would have a hard time disagreeing.
  7. I am cloaked in Mystery today
  8. More likely, the same person under different names.
  9. Yes, not a reliable seller. There are many comments about them that you can find via the Search.
  10. Well done......so far. If it all goes back together (without any parts left over) & works as advertised, you get the gold star.
  11. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck. That watch definitely ought to go back. Maybe the collector will agree to trans-ship a (hopefully, pre-checked) replacement so you might receive it in time.
  12. Probably a correct guess. Check your display setting in the Options.
  13. Wearing greenie today
  14. I have wanted a 214 since 1 of my relatives got 1 of the 1st Spaceviews in the early 60s. But, like you said, something (usually a Rolex) always got in the way. But it will be the next watch I buy (with a Doxa being number 2).
  15. No, not missed, just ignored. I remain unconvinced that they are shipping these out with Swiss 7750s. And, even if they were shipping gen ETAs, there is little to be gained (beyond ease of parts replacement) by going with the Swiss over the Asian-sourced 7750 with a secs at 6 movement. The problems with these movements relate to the added gearing & not the basic movement itself. If you want something beyond the stock Daytona rep, search out the 'You can build a perfect Daytona' tutorial.
  16. Ditto. I nearly bought a Spaceview 214 a couple of months ago, but ended up buying a car instead. But one day soon......
  17. My usual boring, old beater again today
  18. Other than the ROLEXROLEXROLEX around the rehaut (which looks painted) & the oddly shaped index markers at 3, 6 & 9, it looks like the same watch (& movement) most of our collectors have been selling for the past few years for less than 1/3 the price.
  19. Great post, Auto. Hopefully, it will get copied to the appropriate place.
  20. Sounds like a great trip.
  21. I wish they had made the red sections 1/2 as wide, but it looks good. I received mine as well, but my 6536 is still awaiting a proper case.
  22. I was going to mention to be careful & not press too firmly on that stem release. A common mistake, especially when you are just starting out, is to press the release too hard, which dislodges the lever. The movement is not dead, but you will need to remove the movement from the case, remove the hands & dial & then remove the set lever, straighten (or replace) it if it is bent (most likely not) & then reassemble. This level of work may be beyond your tools & comfort level, so you might want to have a local (rep-friendly) watchmaker do the work for you.
  23. I must be getting soft in my old age, but it works for me. Certainly, not perfect, but quite acceptable. And, considering the source, I am not surprised.
  24. Looks like you are well on your way, but what is the thumb tack for?
