  1. Never have truer words been spoken
  2. Right. Nasty old things......
  3. Not my thing (DLC), but they do look pretty cool.
  4. You can probably fit a gen crystal to it, but it may not be the correct 1 for that model. Since the case is not made to the exact 1665 dimensions, finding a crystal that fits will require a bit of trial-&-error. You might start by removing the existing crystal & measuring the height & inner & outer diameters. Unfortunately, I do not know of a source that lists the dimensions of all gen Rolex crystals, but someone else might.
  5. Looks good so far. I agree with you about the crown & pearl. I would swap those out (for the correct parts) next.
  6. My daily beater for Thursday Off to dinner
  7. Sorry, Guys. I just found this thread. This 1 (which contains a transplanted rep dial & gen hands/pushers/crown/tube) is going on 5 years old This 1 is about 3 years old (same movement) And this is the 1st watch treated with graphite powder (still running)
  8. Today Tonight
  9. New week, same old beater
  10. JLC today (Saturday)
  11. The dimensions of Clark's T39 are the same as the gen. I do not have a Silix SD so, as was already mentioned, the only way to know for sure is to try it, but I doubt it will fit.
  12. Unless you get lucky & find a 1-off run from some independent seller, the NDtrading dial is about as good as you will find. But keep in mind that the small handful of people who will know (or be able to appreciate) the difference between a double red & a double Martini are the same people who will know the difference between a gen dial & all the aftermarket or a so-called 'repainted' dials.
  13. Ending the work week with nothing but a Triplock to show for it
  14. Looks like a standard DW case to me (same serial number on mine). And I have an extra 1 of these made to fit a 7750 (bare mid-case (without pushers, crown or crystal & enlarged lug holes for 2mm springbars) & caseback only) for sale. PM me if interested.
  15. I think it is great that you know what you want & have set a goal for yourself to attain your dream watch. Just be sure that this is the watch you really want before you spend all your money. I have been collecting watches for many years & my tastes have changed alot since I was in my 20s. While the Defy is a clever piece of engineering, it is definitely a niche type of watch (meaning that it is like a fad, where it is popular today, but may not be so popular when the styles changes tomorrow), so I am not sure it will retain its value 5, 10 or 20 years into the future. Still, it sounds like you are well on your way to your goal of $25,000. So keep your eye on the prize & do not let anyone or anything deter you.
  16. Correct & I ran into the same problem with my double red. While modding the existing part is not a problem, it might be easier (& less chancy) for most to just swap theirs out with this part. Nice find, Stilty.
  17. The case does not look bad, it just looks like it may be a very recent vintage.
  18. The only way to know for sure if a case is a DW is to purchase it from DW (or have some paperwork showing the case was purchased from DW). But, generally, if the case specs match your description, it has the correct low-profile mid case & caseback & fits a V72, it should be a DW-style case (DW's case is available through other sellers, but do not ask me who - I have seen them for sale (mostly for higher prices) on numerous web & auction sites).
  19. 5508 movement was either 1530 or (chronometer rated) 1560. Dial is aftermarket & hands are not only incorrect for this model, but also mismatched (seconds hand does not match minute/hour hands). Case may also be aftermarket. If someone said this watch came from Phong, I would have a hard time disagreeing.
  20. I am cloaked in Mystery today
  21. More likely, the same person under different names.
  22. Yes, not a reliable seller. There are many comments about them that you can find via the Search.
  23. Well done......so far. If it all goes back together (without any parts left over) & works as advertised, you get the gold star.
  24. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck. That watch definitely ought to go back. Maybe the collector will agree to trans-ship a (hopefully, pre-checked) replacement so you might receive it in time.
