  1. Sometimes, you guys literally crack me up (this is 1 of those times ).
  2. Search out Ziggy's reviews of the seconds at 6 7750 & then read this (I am not providing this service, just posting the link).
  3. This looks like a sales pitch for Kaplans.
  4. ebay would be my 1st choice, but you do have to spend the time/effort to search out what you want. 2nd place would be searching google for 'cheap watch case' or something like that. Some of the collectors here sell cases, but you would need to peruse their offerings to see if anything sparks your fancy.
  5. Depending on the thickness of the overlay, all you need to do is either remove the existing layer of paint with a can of spray paint remover from any auto parts store (follow the instructions on the can) or rub the painted face of the datewheel against some fine (not superfine, or it will take you all day) sandpaper until you reach the desired thickness. After either procedure, clean with denatured alcohol, apply overlay & re-install.
  6. Looks great, Lani. Any plans to tackle the date font?
  7. Check the Collectors forums.
  8. Doable, yes. Why you would want to I do not know. The bezel looks spot-on to me. Only the insert & pearl were off on the originals.
  9. With the usual insert/pearl & bracelet upgrades, yes. I like this pic, Stephane. Nice composition.
  10. Servicing is not mandatory, but highly recommended for any rep/watch you want to keep running for a long time. Rep watches come with used &/or unserviced movements, which means they are living (running) on borrowed time. So it is always best to have the movement professionally serviced (completely disassembled, parts cleaned/replaced (some reps come with worn parts) & lubed). I do not live in the New York area, so I cannot offer any specific recommendations, but, with the economy in the state it is in, I know that alot of gen owners are deferring their required servicing, which leaves alot of watchmakers with more free time than they normally have. Therefore, you are likely to find alot more 'rep-friendly' watchmakers who are willing to service your watch (assuming your rep contains an ETA movement, which most of the watches from RWG collectors will have - though some of these ETAs may be Asian-sourced). I would look up 'watch & clock repair' in your local phone book (or google same in the NY area) & phone them to see if they will work on an ETA-powered rep watch.
  11. G-S Hypo cement, but I would try to remove the old glue (denatured alcohol very carefully applied with a Q-tip should work) before applying the new. You may also need to find a way to clamp the loose part onto the dial for 24 hours to be sure it stays put.
  12. Each has its own set of problems & you have to decide which set offends you the least relative to the gen model you are building. Personally, I would go with the 2nd 1, but many would disagree with me (which is why you should make the final call yourself).
  13. Ditto.
  14. Refreshes of menus is taking 20-40+ seconds (other non-RWG sites refresh much quicker).
  15. All aftermarket dials contain a unique (or slightly different) set of mistakes/inaccuracies/problems & this 1 is no exception. Check these out & see if you find something you like better there. If not, get the 1st 1.
  16. No offense intended, but there is only 1 thing I avoid more than CZ/fake 'jewels' on a rep watch.........no, wait, there is nothing that I avoid more than CZ/fake 'jewels' on a rep watch. Sorry.
  17. Say what you will about the chancy nature of ebay sellers (who, at least can be judged to some degree by their seller histories & buyers' ratings), but I would never buy anything of any value from an unknown seller on Craigs list. No way, no how.
  18. Without knowing specifically what you need, I can only answer in general terms. I do not have a list, but many parts are interchangeable between the Asian & ETA versions of the 7750, so you might try ordering parts from julesborel.com or cousinsuk.com. If there is a specific part you need, either order it (if it is not too expensive) or post a question in the Watch Repair forum to see if anyone has tried to replace it with an ETA part before.
  19. Very suave. Congratulations.
  20. Nail polish remover (acetone) removes crazy glue (ethyl cyanoacrylate), but it also depends on what the insert is made of.
  21. The trick in stem replacement is cutting the new stem to fit the case without cutting it too short. So I would get 2-3 stems & shorten the stem by small increments & test fit after each cut. A common mistake when doing this the 1st time is cutting the new stem too short.
  22. I do not know if they do custom work, but Kirk Rich (in California) has does excellent work redialing gens.
  23. Far from an accurate copy of a gen, but I have seen worse. Alot worse.
