RWG is running even slower today (Thursday). Posting is especially slow, taking nearly 1 minute for THIS posting screen to fully display (and there are no pictures inserted into this thread). The problem is not at my end (other sites loading normally).

Unless the watch has been stored in a safe, after 30+ years it is unlikely that any paint will remain on the caseback. But I have repainted metal bezels with engraved numbers using a procedure similar to the process you use to grout your bathroom tile. This procedure will also work on a caseback or just about any metal with indented painted areas. Clean the caseback with denatured alcohol to remove all dirt & oil Spray a good coat of high temperature gloss automotive engine paint to the back Using a lint-free cloth or VIVA paper towel dampened (not soaking) with paint thinner, gently & slowly slide the flat cloth across the caseback to remove a small amount of paint from the surface. The trick is to remove only the paint on the surface, but not the paint within the grooves of the text. Using a 2nd dampened cloth, repeat the process of sliding the cloth across the caseback, removing a small amount of paint from the surface. Using a 3rd dampened cloth, repeat the process....... Repeat with a new dampened cloth until all of the paint has been removed from the caseback's surface. Let the caseback dry overnight. To remove the paint, buy a spray can of paint remover (available at most automotive or hardware stores) & spray the caseback with a good, thick layer of the paint remover. Let sit for 20 minutes (or follow the instructions on the can) & wash off.

Ok, I know what you are talking about -- the sweep wheel tension spring. But he said the twitchyness started all of a sudden overnight & it seems odd that a spring would suddenly become bent or dislodged that fast, especially when the watch was just resting on a nightstand. But I will definitely check that. The uneven motion also is unaffected by the watch's position & I already checked the beat (nearly dead-on, amplitude is about 300). Even flat on its back, the second hand is twitchy, so I am kind of leaning toward dirty pallet stones.......or maybe the hand just simply came loose on its pinion? Thanks RG.

As usual, Avitt is spot-on. The only thing I would add is that if you want the correct (asymmetrical) pusher layout, you have 3 movement choices -- V72, V23 (same as V72, but without the hour totalizer - you fit a 'phantom' (fixed position) subdial hand in place of the missing hour totalizer hand of the V72) or an asymmetrical-pushered A7750 (these movements are harder to find than Valjoux movements). The movement on the right is a Lemania/Venus copy If you can live without the asymmetrical pushers & do not mind 'freezing' the hour totalizer subdial hand, the Lemania/Venus movement is a good alternative option. These movements are still in production, silky smooth & bulletproof. This is a Lemania/Venus 6263

That day is here. You can get a polarizing filter to place over your laptop (or desktop) monitor screen that limits the viewing area to directly in front of the screen & eliminates off-angle snooping.

Or use the Adblock image option in the Firefox browser to remove/block it (as well as any other images on a page). Firefox is free & better than IE anyway.

No offense, but Mickey's answer is mostly correct (but I would shy away from the GMTIIC due to its movement issues). If the inmate wants a 'gold' watch, then you might do better by asking him which he wants instead of any of us. To my eye, neither of the 2 watches you posted are very good.

On gen dials, the word 'COMEX' is painted gloss black against a semi-gloss white background. Also, the 'O' is usually slightly squared. It is hard to tell from the sellers pictures whether that is the case on this dial or if 'COMEX' is just the background dial color, which is the way nearly all aftermarket dials are printed Seller does have a 100% rating from a small number of previous watch sales, but, overall, I have to agree with Doc on this 1 -- caveat emptor. __________ Update -- Actually, the more I study the pics, the more gen this dial looks. This 1 could turn out to be another record-breaking sale. Maybe not quite as high as Dowling's DR's $18.5k (because the seller does not have Dowling's name & esteem), but I will bet it ends up close (+/-) & will be purchased with similar intentions (to convert a less rare 5513 over to a VERY rare 5514 along with a gen or Vietnamese caseback). __________ Update 2 -- Maybe not...... If you mean Honpo, you might suggest that he improve his customer service skills & contact the Admin to discuss his becoming a collector here. With roughly 13,000 rep buyers currently on board, it would be to everyone's benefit were he to make his wares available (on a reliable basis) to RWG members. I know I would be 1 of the 1st in line to purchase 1 of his 7750-powered asymmetrical 6239 Daytonas (pics on 1st page of this thread).

Opinions (here & on TZ) appear to be very mixed on this model, but the waiting lists at many ADs are already beginning to approach Daytona-like in their numbers (& expected wait times). I already have a space reserved in 1 of my cases for a decent rep of the SDDS to gather dust in.

Where is the 'news' here? So CH is finally joining the rest of the modern world & starting to treat contraband like contraband. But taken in the context of increased inspections of imported reps by UK & US customs & recent law suits brought against ebay by Rolex, Tiffany & other gen makers, I, again, warn that the gen brands are (or will soon be) setting their targets on us -- individuals & websites that cater to the sale & manufacture (or remanufacture) of trademarked goods. And with RWG being so prominently listed in google, I fear it is just a matter of time. So be circumspect in what you post. Best not to post names or locations as these can all be used by ambulance chasers (lawyers) to 'connect the dots'.

I agree with the above. If the dial is gen (most I see advertised as gen are in fact either new aftermarket or redials of aftermarket dials), I would give the seller cash before his drugs wear off.

This DRSD (with working Hev) is all gen except for the dial (soon to be replaced), crystal (Clarks), pearl (Ofrei), case (modded MBW) & hands (Clarks). The bracelet, from end link to end link, is all gen. The drive train is all gen.

I thought this had been confirmed long ago. But glad to see that I am not alone.
