  1. Welcome to rwg. I am likewise unclear as to what a 'super franken Daytona' is? A franken (short for frankenstein watch) is a watch that was assembled out of parts from other watches or sources. In other words, it did not leave the factory as it is currently assembled. You can post a Wanted to Buy (WTB) request in the Watch sales forum, or, if you have deep pockets, you can purchase an assembled franken from here or here (I would strongly recommend that you read other members' experiences with these pre-assembled frankens before taking the plunge). As to the watch you currently own, I would search out Ziggy's reviews of the seconds @ 6 7750, which details the inherent problems with these movements. You might also search out 'powdered graphite' for a remedy to the movement's biggest problem. Good luck & happy hunting.
  2. Nice, but what you really need is the faded red triangle with white outlines
  3. Rep sites get 'seized' all the time. In a few days (if not sooner), they will be back with a different IP or domain name (check the seller's forum for updates).
  4. Wearing my '39
  5. A few were customized, but those are very rare & no where near common. Other than in a couple of books (about rare Rolexes), I have never seen 1 in more than 25 years of collecting.
  6. John (& not just in the movies).
  7. I hate to always be the raincloud that dampens everyone's parade & I know that some prefer a graduated bezel, but the 6238 was produced with a plain steel bezel. Swap the Daytona-style bezel for the correct pre-Daytona, give the case some real-world use (patina) & then you have something special. Here is a gen
  8. Thanks again, All. The music was the easy part. Locating all those old pics on photobucket was the real WORK (I hate their new flash-based platform ). Good eye. I think I got it in '76.
  9. Oddly, just 2 minutes ago, a friend asked me if I want a pair of tickets to their show tomorrow night.
  10. Between Ofrei & Clark, I would say that Clark's is the better option. But I have only ever upgraded DW crystals to gens, so I cannot tell whether either will fit better or worse than the original DW crystal.
  11. We are certainly happy to have you hear - talking about cars or watches or whatever.
  12. The $64,000 question - does it look any different now?
  13. Thanks all for the kind words. It has been a couple of years since the last 1 & there have been a number of new additions/changes, so it was time for an update. To be honest, I do not do much country pop, but this seemed to fit the bill. No box, but I have almost 3 dozen (gens & frankens) in my permanent collection.
  14. Ah, a man who appreciates fine motoring. Many years ago, after I sold the E-Type, I thought it would be clever to 'update' the Spitfire similar to what you did. Unfortunately, it made leisurely weekend drives in the country, which is all I use it for, literally unbearable. So I removed all the updates, returned the car to 100% stock & lived happily ever after I have never owned an Elan, but always respected Mrs. Peel's choice. I did have a Super 7 for a bit in the 80s, which was a glorious car, when it ran. The 7 did make it to a couple of car shows
  15. The Asian clones tend to be solid movements after a proper (professional) overhaul. These days, regardless of the seller's claim, I would assume the ETA in your rep is Asian-made, unless proven otherwise. Still, if your preference is for aesthetics over cost (that tends to be my usual default), you might want to go with the version that mimics the genuine Rolex movement (it is not functionally the same, but it may fool some collectors/watchmakers & looks nicer than the ETA copy). I assume you have not been driving the Fiat for many years, otherwise, you would likely rescind the comparison to the rep Explorer. As for the shirt, probably a good move.

  17. Problems like cyclops falling off are very rare, but just another reason to replace the crystal (on whichever rep you get) with a genuine part. The genuines have the correct Rolex magnification (2.5x), which the aftermarkets often get wrong. They (the genuines) also tend to sparkle, especially those with a beveled edge, which gives your watch a distinct jewel-like quality, which is sorely lacking on aftermarket lenses. On the other hand, no matter how careful you are, the crowns/tubes on most Rolex reps tend to cross-thread, so swapping these parts out for gens is more of a requirement than a luxury for a watch you need to rely on. Ah, vintage Fiats. Pretty cars (especially the Spider convertible - you are more than welcome to post a wristie with your Spider), but 1 of the few that were built worse than British sports cars of similar vintage (I used to service them both).
