  1. Do you have the small, round spacer that fits between the bottom of the dial & movement plate I am not familiar with that particular case, but, generally, without the ring, the movement will sit too low in the case, leaving a gap between the dial & rehaut, which sounds like the problem you are having.
  2. As most long-time collectors are already aware, over the years, TZ has become more & more nanny-state-like in its prohibition of questions relating to price, specific dealers, reps (of course) & just about any other subject their moderators feel might offend their brand sponsors. Of course, TZ continues to be a great place for newbies or anyone wanting to show off their new Rolex or ask whether they should buy the white or black dial or whether trading a Double Red for 2 Omega Speedmasters makes sense. But for those seeking an open, frank & adult conversation, I think it has now outlived its usefulness. At least, it has for me. I realized today that it has been weeks since I last felt the impulse to check into TZ & that has become the norm. As 1 of its initial members (I 1st registered in early '01, prior to the original facelift), it seems like ages since I could not wait to check in to see what new debate was raging or what new technological problem had been solved by fellow members. But, these days, it seems like all the serious stuff has moved on to more open pastures.
  3. Of course, anything is possible with vintage Rolex & high prices go hand-in-hand with the Rolex brand, but Rolex only specs 1 part number for the 1570 balance assy. So I suspect the variations you referenced are for the 1530 (the base caliber for the 157x series) & its numerous variants. Getting another complete movement is certainly an option, but, as is the case with most used movements of unknown provenance, you are just as likely to end up needing parts for that movement as well. If your 1570 is in otherwise proper condition, were it me, I would just replace the balance assy with a NOS part.
  4. The hairspring/balance for a 1570 (no date) is sold as a complete assembly, Rolex part 8106. They are not so much rare (they are still being manufactured by Rolex), but in limited supply outside of Rolex's official service network. Prices will vary, depending on who you purchase from & whether the part is new or used, but if you search ebay & the sales listings on Rolex-related forums for a bit, you should be able to locate 1.
  5. That makes all the difference. I must have missed that detail. Good luck with the rest of the project.
  6. Looks like the right type of drill, but why are you drilling lug holes in a 16014 case (which should already have lug holes)? &, by the way, the Datejust does not use the same 2mm dia springbars that are used in sports models like the Sub/SD.
  7. Welcome to rwg. I am likewise unclear as to what a 'super franken Daytona' is? A franken (short for frankenstein watch) is a watch that was assembled out of parts from other watches or sources. In other words, it did not leave the factory as it is currently assembled. You can post a Wanted to Buy (WTB) request in the Watch sales forum, or, if you have deep pockets, you can purchase an assembled franken from here or here (I would strongly recommend that you read other members' experiences with these pre-assembled frankens before taking the plunge). As to the watch you currently own, I would search out Ziggy's reviews of the seconds @ 6 7750, which details the inherent problems with these movements. You might also search out 'powdered graphite' for a remedy to the movement's biggest problem. Good luck & happy hunting.
  8. Nice, but what you really need is the faded red triangle with white outlines
  9. Rep sites get 'seized' all the time. In a few days (if not sooner), they will be back with a different IP or domain name (check the seller's forum for updates).
  10. A few were customized, but those are very rare & no where near common. Other than in a couple of books (about rare Rolexes), I have never seen 1 in more than 25 years of collecting.
  11. I hate to always be the raincloud that dampens everyone's parade & I know that some prefer a graduated bezel, but the 6238 was produced with a plain steel bezel. Swap the Daytona-style bezel for the correct pre-Daytona, give the case some real-world use (patina) & then you have something special. Here is a gen
  12. Thanks again, All. The music was the easy part. Locating all those old pics on photobucket was the real WORK (I hate their new flash-based platform ). Good eye. I think I got it in '76.
  13. Oddly, just 2 minutes ago, a friend asked me if I want a pair of tickets to their show tomorrow night.
  14. Between Ofrei & Clark, I would say that Clark's is the better option. But I have only ever upgraded DW crystals to gens, so I cannot tell whether either will fit better or worse than the original DW crystal.
