  1. There are alot of people who would pay Patek to work for them. But, knowing their standards, they are probably looking for someone with ALOT of experience.
  2. mrtesting - Not boring at all. If you have only 1 watch, a Sub is 1 of the best to have.
  3. Well, then my money was well spent (I can attach a camera to my 'scope). But yours still looks like quite a serious piece of equipment.
  4. Wow, that is a pretty serious-looking device you got there. I paid nearly the same for my mid-level watchmaker's 'scope (under plastic cover in top right corner of my pic) & mine looks like a kindergarten toy next to yours.
  5. Varies depending on the day, what I am doing, where I am going, my mood & my wardrobe.
  6. It may very well be available, but just not popular enough for most sellers to stock. I would inquire of a few of the sellers here to see if they can source it for you. Otherwise, search google & keep your fingers crossed that you do not get ripped off by a rouge rep dealer.
  7. I would give the entire case a nice polish to soften all the edges. That way, the CGs will look like they have been worn down due to 40-50 years worth of polishings. If you want to take it to the next step, search out a better set of hands, which are the watch's weak point. Otherwise, nicely done.
  8. Pardon the mess
  9. I see 4 pushers. This could be very interesting
  10. I cannot help with thread pitch, but you can find assortments of pushers on Ofrei as well as most watch parts houses websites.
  11. Sounds like time for a professional overhaul, a common problem for watches with used &/or unserviced movements (ie, nearly all reps).
  12. Hopefully, no one here is silly enough to own any (at least, not paid for). You should be able to locate what you seek by searching google for 'canal street Rolex' (or similar). & before you respond with 'Can you itemize the differences between a Canal Street &........', read Toad's Newbie guide, which is pinned in the Introduction & Rules forum, & then visit your local authorized Rolex dealer (AD) to learn what the genuine watch feels & looks like. You might also locate a copy of Richard Brown's 'Replica Watch Report' (or any of the other myriad numbers of rep watch guides available online), which, while a bit dated, details the general differences between various levels of replica watches. Then, if you have specific questions, post them here.
  13. I do not have a DSSD, but I believe the diver's extension works the same as this.
  14. Still & again
  15. Unless you have a known gen on hand to make a direct comparison, the best way to tell is by the cyclops magnification. The gen is 2.5x (so the date windows fills most of the cyclops when viewed directly) while most aftermarkets are 2x or less. As always, your best guarantee is to buy the seller before you click the buy button.
  16. Do you have the small, round spacer that fits between the bottom of the dial & movement plate I am not familiar with that particular case, but, generally, without the ring, the movement will sit too low in the case, leaving a gap between the dial & rehaut, which sounds like the problem you are having.
  17. As most long-time collectors are already aware, over the years, TZ has become more & more nanny-state-like in its prohibition of questions relating to price, specific dealers, reps (of course) & just about any other subject their moderators feel might offend their brand sponsors. Of course, TZ continues to be a great place for newbies or anyone wanting to show off their new Rolex or ask whether they should buy the white or black dial or whether trading a Double Red for 2 Omega Speedmasters makes sense. But for those seeking an open, frank & adult conversation, I think it has now outlived its usefulness. At least, it has for me. I realized today that it has been weeks since I last felt the impulse to check into TZ & that has become the norm. As 1 of its initial members (I 1st registered in early '01, prior to the original facelift), it seems like ages since I could not wait to check in to see what new debate was raging or what new technological problem had been solved by fellow members. But, these days, it seems like all the serious stuff has moved on to more open pastures.
  18. Of course, anything is possible with vintage Rolex & high prices go hand-in-hand with the Rolex brand, but Rolex only specs 1 part number for the 1570 balance assy. So I suspect the variations you referenced are for the 1530 (the base caliber for the 157x series) & its numerous variants. Getting another complete movement is certainly an option, but, as is the case with most used movements of unknown provenance, you are just as likely to end up needing parts for that movement as well. If your 1570 is in otherwise proper condition, were it me, I would just replace the balance assy with a NOS part.
  19. The hairspring/balance for a 1570 (no date) is sold as a complete assembly, Rolex part 8106. They are not so much rare (they are still being manufactured by Rolex), but in limited supply outside of Rolex's official service network. Prices will vary, depending on who you purchase from & whether the part is new or used, but if you search ebay & the sales listings on Rolex-related forums for a bit, you should be able to locate 1.
  20. That makes all the difference. I must have missed that detail. Good luck with the rest of the project.
  21. Looks like the right type of drill, but why are you drilling lug holes in a 16014 case (which should already have lug holes)? &, by the way, the Datejust does not use the same 2mm dia springbars that are used in sports models like the Sub/SD.
