  1. Red Sub next to 90 lbs of Toothy Death. :-o
  2. The 6204 in gen configuration wants a tropic 16, same as the 6536/1.
  3. I tried a CWP tropic 19 on my Frosty Flake and it fit exactly like the gen t39 I had on it. Here's the gen T39, note the sidewalls were slightly too tall: Here's the CWP T19: So we know the gen T39 fit the MBW and a gen case and a Phong case, and the CWP fit the Phong too, so it will also fit the MBW.
  4. The brown one is what's called "tropical" and is a pretty fair representation of a MkII dial. Here's a gen for comparison.
  5. I put a gen Superdome T39 on my 1665 and it fit like a glove.
  6. cc33, I have a set of those hands already, and am thinking about how to use them best to get that "63 years old" look... they definitely need to be "gilt" though. JoeyB, I like your hands even more. I just need your hours hand and I'm set. Maybe your minutes hand too, it appears to be 1mm longer than mine.
  7. Finally, after an agonizing wait, my dial is here! I'm ready to commence my next build ... the iconic Rolex 6204. The first "Submariner". Okay gents, pop quiz: where did I get this bad boy? Is this a Dark Lord dial? It's gorgeous for sure, but it pales in comparison to the glorious case set I've wrangled from a well known member here. Let the games begin!
  8. I had trouble with my saved URL for new content. Now it's called something else.
  9. Hey Boss, looks like I cannot login on a real browser, it won't take my password. And Tapatalk won't let me initiate a new PM to you so would you send me an email so I can get reset?
  10. Many decades ago the lines between manufacturers were a little more blurred. Wakmann / Gigandet made pilot chronos for AOPA (aircraft owners and pilots association) and Breitling noticed. So the case stayed the same and a couple complications were dropped and a slide rule was added. That was the first Navitimer as we know it now. Then Breitling chose a different case and voila' we had the 809. It's a short progression from this: To this: To this:
  11. Last of the old school MBWs for today.
  12. Well said, automatico. You are a long time well respected member and your opinion is valuable to people trying to decide. Grazie mille.
  13. What he said ^^^ The GW and DR are different beasts and the DR will attract a buttload of potentially unwanted scrutiny. You have to make that decision before you move forward.
  14. I bought a MBW DRSD almost 18 years ago and it was a great piece. Over the years I replaced the usual parts (crystal, insert, crown etc) and gen parts worked just fine. It was a very, very believable and solid piece. We have a member here, Rolexfinder, who put up a sale thread in the last couple days, and he can get a GW or DR 1665 from the last remaining MBW stock. If you're really interested in doing it right, buy one of those. Here are some comparisons between old MBW and gen:
