  1. You da Man!! Nicely done.
  2. Thanks! That means a lot coming from a pro diver. Notice the USD logo in the 3rd quadrant? That makes it a "Black Lung", one of perhaps 10 ever made. And it's a little known fact that 3 more besides mine live right here on RWG.
  3. ....and look no front disk brake so I can't do this again.
  4. For Sale, slightly used ... a couple of desk swirlies. Yeah that'll buff right out, trust me.
  5. "If it seems too good to be true..." Anyone want to complete the thought for me?
  6. It's a Gigandet triple date chrono, probably from the late 40s or early 50s. Its heart is a v72c movement, and it was made for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (see the AOPA wings). It somehow fits into the Breitling / Wakmann / Sinn lineage just before the Navitimer was introduced. That's all I can find out about it, I've never seen another one.
  7. I thought I'd give the old girl some exercize today. No I didn't set the date, that can take 2 men and a small boy.
  8. Think of the Loctite as something to hold the tube in without having to over torque it. Presto, it's not glue it's a liquid tool.
  9. Yes there's supposed to be a small o-ring around that "pin" that makes the valve. Also check the tube threads where it screws into the case. Loctite is your friend.
  10. Preacher, you can do the beveling by hand. With my old MBW I just removed the old tube, I found the biggest drill bit that would fit between the CGs, and chucked it up in my DeWalt. I held the case in one hand, held the drill in the other, eyeballed it and gave 'er a whirl. I didn't remove much metal and tried a test fit. I repeated it a couple times until I was happy, then I put some Loctite on the tube threads and screwed it in. Then I put the crown on the tube and screwed it all down tight.
  11. Nobody has the Gerber on their list as Most Complicated?
  12. My early MBW 1665 case was threaded for a gen tube but the tube wouldn't seat fully; its lip ended up proud of the case a smidgen. I reamed the tube opening slightly then chased the threads again and that did it, the tube would then screw in until it seated completely.
  13. Uffda!! Mine is much shorter so less ice builds up.
  14. I've never tried them but they look like a Sorel boot and those are pretty toasty. They should be nice and toasty. Remember Wiggy tends to oversell his ideas so take it with a grain of salt. His claim about feet sweating and getting cold is true. The answer? Put antiperspirant on your feet before your socks. It makes a huge improvement.
  15. Welcome aboard, fellow Rolex aficionado!
  16. We bought a stack of Wiggys on a special discount for the Boy Scouts troop. The ones we got are the hybrids where you can zip the thin bag onto the thick inner bag. Our first outing was a campout at -35F. The Wiggys are rated for -40F and I've got to say they were COLD at -35F. Darnit. They're made really well and I love being able to chuck it in the washing machine but it's not a -40 bag. For that I use a Mountain Hardwear "King Tut" down bag. Amazing stuff. Wiggys uses Lamilite insulation and it survives home washing with no problem at all. To me that makes it GREAT for jackets too.
  17. Moi?? Post a gratuitous photo unrelated to a topic?! Guilty!!
  18. I guess I should keep it, eventually I hope to make my Big Gonzo a tropical then I'll have a triumvirate!
  19. No kidding, it's a sickness! Wait a couple years, by then a $1,000 case won't be shocking at all.
  20. Akitas? I can understand your interest... wonderful dogs but wow do they shed! She's a 1964 gen with an aftermarket small-arrow GMT hand (I still have the original). The tropical gilt dial was installed by my local Rolex AD.
  21. This one is always for sale, but be prepared to mortgage the dog for it.
