Gee thanks. It's 8 degrees here with bluebird skies. Y'know I think I'm gonna dig being hot for awhile. I can tell it's time to go back, all the coral gouges on the Frosty Flake's crystal have polished out.

Want to talk a trade here? I ran Brunhilda, the Mother of All Snowblowers, twice on Sunday just to keep up, then again Monday morning before work. After work on Monday I got home and it was almost 3 feet deep. In 8 hours. Heading for Honolulu on Monday and it's starting to sound prett-tt-ty darn good!

It's the "S"now designator for the erstwhile-common "1665" Sea Dweller. The Snow Dweller. My new fave!

Skate skiing is fine if you're the only one using the trail or if everyone is going the same speed. And I prefer diagonal skiing because the places I ski are typically waist deep in snow.

Very nice, AW. It looks like most people there ski diagonal (classic) and very few are skate skiers. I like that!

Well said, LK. I have a story that exactly illustrates this. I found myself in a high-end watch shop on a business trip to NJ a couple years ago. They had sparkly Rolexes, Omegas, Corums (Corii?), you name it. I was admiring a certain gold Bucherer chrono on a delectable leather strap. It was reasonably priced (cough cough) at $22,000. The salesman asked if I had a stylistic preference, while easing me over toward the cheap end of the counter. Perhaps due to my jeans, sneakers, and polar fleece windbreaker? I described my affection for dive watches, specifically round faced watches with black dials and, ideally, stainless steel construction. His nose wrinkled slightly, as if I'd released a foul stench into the room. He told me with evident disdain that his shop did not service that segment of the watch industry. I glanced over at the Rolex counter, but sadly, saw only a sea of jewel-encrusted dressy watches. He did, to his credit, offer me a Bucherer brochure to take with me as I left (hint, hint). So I reached for it, and my sleeve slipped up a few inches. A certain chocolate dialed watch peeked out and the man was on it like flies on a dead salmon. He grabbed my wrist and turned the watch toward him, and his mouth fell open. Oh I love it when that happens. Another Mk-II Sea Dweller fan made!

I just finished a Bulleit bourbon that was plenty good by my exceedingly low standards.

*snort* I prefer to look at them as simply more beautiful. My enhanced patina look takes time and practice to perfect. In fact I'm thinking I need more practice. Got any pieces you want beautified? I have some new techniques in mind. I just need to improve my aim.

The crown and tube on my 1665 are from 1971 and are still in good condition, and seal correctly (the o-rings have been replaced). It's an automatic movement so it doesn't get unscrewed very often. I treat it gently and suspect it will last awhile longer.

Wow, that came out really nice. Lots of builds look "clunky" like a hodge-podge of parts that happen to fit together. Other builds just look "right" somehow. This is one of them.

That's it, rub salt in my wounds. I'm going for the Tropical Hat Trick. My 1665 and 1675 are tropical, but my 6536 refuses to come out of the closet, so to speak. So I'm thinking about ways to tropicalize my Daz-built 6538. He's got a spectacular vintage patina to the dial, but if it was tropical brown, I could die a happy man. There's my conundrum. A brown sharpie or spray paint are my ideas so far.

Okay boys, we need to start a "Bribe Akira" pool. Everyone chip in some cash and we'll finally see how he gets that great tropical look!

The stove drying method works equally well with gens or reps. The only sticking point is if you use a rep stove. I once tried this with a Genelal Erectric gas stove and the results weren't pretty. Start with 60 minutes at 100% heat and see if that dries the little sucker out.
