  1. Hey if it's $10,000 on the line, fly to where he is, accompany him into a Rolex A.D. to have it verified, collect your winnings, buy a nice treat for the missus and fly back home on your free vacation.
  2. Take a look here for some nice aftermarket stuff...... http://www.ofrei.com/page_156.html
  3. My Snowflake wearing a T39 Superdome crystal, with cut down sides. I could still drop it another perhaps .1mm or .2mm as long as the underside doesn't touch the rehaut.
  4. Hey I never did micrometer those crystals. Sorry! I can say with total confidence that a T19 fits a 5513/1680/1665/9411/9401/7016/7022 case and a T39 does too. But the sidewalls of the T39 must be cut down at least 1mm to not look bizarre. I did that on my Snowflake build and it looks absolutely outstanding!
  5. That Organa ROCKS!!! And the orange Gruen ... I'd give Ken's left nut for it. It shares the same case as the Blancpain 1000m Barakuda.
  6. Here's some canine flotsam that washed up on the shores of Chez Nanuq. Tibetan Terrier, great in the snow!
  7. Yeah it's hard to grasp how big that rock is. I'm sitting here looking at it right now, and it seems like it's "right there". The scale of Alaska is just off the charts... tough to wrap your head around it. Here's a photo my buddy took, still from a long way off. He had to be that far back to get the mountain in his viewfinder.
  8. I saw a discussion awhile back about the Who's Who of vintage divers. Jenny had their fingers in everyone's pie, it seems. Gotta agree with the Jenny Caribbean compressor pieces!
  9. Hey RWG thanks for this great collaboration effort with Correcttime. It's great to see a newb that's so gung-ho to build a good piece, and all you guys sharing years of hard-won knowledge. That's what makes this place great!
  10. Andy thanks for this generous offer. Finhs asked me to delete his negative feedback against Star69, I have done so.
  11. Yes indeed, 250 miles away
  12. Here ya go, noon from the deck on winter solstice. The sun will be down pretty soon!
  13. Haaaaaaaaaaaa!! Have you been a fly on my wall!
  14. Here's mine for today, pic taken at 15 after midnight so it's technically legal.
  15. Vintage Rolex prices are through the roof and we've had many discussions at RWG about "who's next?" Years ago I picked Doxa out of the crowd, for several reasons, and their values are climbing nicely. I think it's time for another pick. Consider vintage Certina DS divers, especially the early ones. Like Doxa, the first ones had domed plexiglas crystals but unlike Doxa they use more traditional case designs. Certina is lacking features to make it distinct, like orange dials and the Cousteau tie-in. But they also share features from other more expensive brands of the era, like the Kon-Tiki and Fifty Fathoms. Plus that ultra cool turtle caseback... how can you go wrong? And did I mention so far it's $185? Here's my pick this week, a DS-2 with all the cool early features. If this had an orange dial it would be top of my "gotta have it" list. Enjoy! http://www.ebay.com/itm/230818760187
  16. 12:15AM June 30th and it's still light enough to play outdoors. Anyone up for a mtn bike ride? It's not getting any darker out but the dogs down the mountain are barking at something big, with claws.
  17. No, that was Timothy "Tatertot" Treadwell. This is Charlie Vandergaw, he's been living with bears for 20+ years like this.
  18. That "should" be an easy fix. I have an Avocet altimeter watch with a back held on by screws, similar to yours. First time I opened it the screws came out easy enough but there was a weak adhesive of some kind holding it on, to supplement the caseback gasket. Some GENTLE prying got it off. With the back off look for screws holding the movement in place. Once you remove these, you ought to be able to turn it face up, thwack it into your open palm, and pop the movement out. Fingers crossed! Check also to see if the winding stem will be in the way preventing it popping out. If that works, use a tiny drop of adhesive, NOT SUPERGLUE, and put that marker back on. Cyanoacrylates will outgas and fume the crystal and ruin it. Reassembly is, as they say, opposite of removal. Put a little light grease on the caseback gasket to hold it in place, reattach the caseback, making sure the gasket stays put. It may well lose its water-proofness by doing this. After rebuilding it, give it a try and see if it fogs inside when you submerge it. A drop of cold water on the crystal after a warm submersion will fog it inside if you get a leak. In that case quickly open it back up, dry it thoroughly, and try again. And while it's open replace the battery! Or as another thought take it to a battery replacement place and have them pop out the movement and reglue it, "as long as it's open anyway...." That may be the easiest solution of all. Good luck!
  19. A man's best friend is his ....... bear
  20. It's a beauty, all original (except arguably the crown) and has a meters bezel ... pretty rare!
  21. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........... Not to be too obvious here, but if it's dark do you really need your 24-hour hand? Think about it for a minute..... (caveat: unless your 24h hand is individually adjustable from the hours hand that is!!)
  22. Remember the old inserts have a tiny hole for a tiny pearl with no metal surround. Newer inserts have a big hole for the big pearl.
  23. You should have seen the one just before that..... perhaps I went a little too far. It was right in the middle of this picture when I turned on the flame.
  24. Well, not exactly......... If you remember, this is what we've scraped together so far, for the Ken's Missing Testicle Repatriation Fund.
