  1. O/S I've got to thank you for making this possible. Gents, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I dare say never again will you be able to pick from a list of NOS Squale dive watches. They sort of went astray trying to survive in the quartz movement era ... no matter, these are the REAL DEAL. Factory new Squale divers from the 70s, the Pro series with automatic movements, and you're not taking chances with inaccurate Ebay listings. Once in a lifetime... pity I don't have more squirreled away for this moment. Edit: I was reading the texts and saw the reference to Blancpain and Doxa. Blancpain used the Squale compressor case in its 1000m Barakuda diver ... one of THE iconic dive watches.
  2. Welcome back! A heated debate? If it were up to me, I'd build the 1680 and then set it on an acetylene burner and see if I could get it to glow cherry red.
  3. It also serves as my high speed autowinder.
  4. Watches on a bar? Another take on the same subject.
  5. Have you tried, or heard of, Danner work boots?
  6. As long as we're spreading the word about exceptionally good footwear... I need robust boots and once my beloved Raichle Eigers died (broken shank) I went modern with Montrail. I've got two pairs, the Couloirs and Verglas. The Couloir fit like they're custom made to my foot, lightly insulated, deerskin lined, waxed and waterproof, and durable. They're best described as comfy fuzzy bunny slippers that are crampon compatible. I'm 6 years into them through unbelievable conditions and they keep improving. When the stock insoles broke down I searched out genuine Birkenstock insoles and they're amazingly comfortable on long backpacking trips. On -30F mornings they take a LONG time to thaw out. The Verglas are hardcore with carved birch shanks. I use them much less but they continually amaze, being comfortable enough for long backpack approaches, and stiff enough to stand on a 1/2" crack. They're Thinsulate thin, even more waterproof, and lasted with a nice toe rocker. They're intimidating because loosely tied they seem to have no weaknesses. Tight lacing means your metatarsals will ache for a week but you'll have God's Own Traction and Stability. These are serious pieces of gear. Perhaps due to the Thinsulate, they warm up much quicker on cold mornings. Give them a try! I can't recommend them highly enough.
  7. Heck, I have rabbit ears. On my TV, ya bunch of clowns!

    My Dad

Hambone, thanks for saying this. I know how hard that was. Like the guys said this is far more than a watch forum ... that barely scratches the surface. We are in many ways a band of brothers. And so brother, this is the time to build memories. You are the artist and the rest of his life is your easel. Now is when you paint the memories you'll carry the rest of your life and it's your choice how they will look. It will be VERY hard, and will draw on every resource you've got to give. And then some. But right now is when you're going to make the superhuman effort and you're going to AMAZE yourself on what you're capable of doing. You're going to make a masterpiece. And you'll have the rest of your life to remember your dad in this painting. Be strong, don't walk this path alone brother.
  9. It's a beauty but up for sake right now too is the VERY rare "silver shark", it's a silver dialed Sharkhunter. Very very very rare.
  10. Y'know I bet that photo has snakes the world over thinking about a strap custom-made from Donerix hide. Similar textures eh?
  11. And the best answer to that? "I dunno, I took it off a dead guy." End of conversation, right there.
  12. Don't forget to order some of those rivet bars that press in from both sides to attach the fliplock to the clasp.
  13. I've been called out for wearing GENS.
  14. Today it's this skanky old beater, with a 702 crown for Woof's viewing pleasure. Although he's still probably checking out the Asci-babes...
  15. Woof, it's not hard to find a 702, but the tubes are really scarce. That's mostly the reason I bought the one in the last photo, plus its dial. If you're feeling brave you can chuck up an old-school MBW triplock crown and machine a bevel in its case side, and wind up with something nearly identical to a 702, with a working tube.
  16. BTW, here's what can be done with a "Josh" 5513 case, a 702 crown and some massaging. This watch merged with another 'Flake I had to build the piece (above) that gets most wrist time now.
  17. Well spotted. There was an era when Snowflake dials tended to go coarse like that... I believe it was the 7016 no-date and 7022 date models. The newer 9401 and 9411 fixed that. Here's an old no-date "leprosy dial" from that era.
  18. Redwatch and Fxrandy, this was handled exceptionally well. Well done!
  19. Nam HING bars look best. Seadweller with nam HING bars. Looks best.
  20. Going swimming in the deep dark murky depths today so of course I need a Doxa!
  21. Hot dog!!! I've always wanted a real, gen-you-wine JustAsGood custom piece!! Just pop it in the mail to Nanuq of the North, Alaska and it will (eventually) get here by dogsled. As soon it arrives I'll post a boatload of pictures showing off your skills. Hot dog!
  22. "the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word..." More? For that 'Flake I'll say it all day long!!
  23. Nice collection JAG, but I've gotta say that Snowflake is just hideous!! Truly ghastly!!
  24. Ahhhhh, don't listen to Freddy, all his taste is in his mouth. If I were King of the Universe I'd smoke the dial to make the plots match the lume on the two main hands, then I'd find a silver (not white) "Big Lollipop" seconds hand. THEN the planets would align and the angels would sing. ..............for awhile. Then I'd send the dial off to Kirk Rich and have him paint gilt rings around the plots. THEN the planets would align and the angels would sing. ..........for awhile. Then I'd work the hands over to make them look slightly corroded. Espresso and a q-tip work great. THEN the planets would align and the angels would sing. ........for awhile. Hmmmmmmmmm. Wonder if I can find a gen T-17 crystal? Success!! Now the planets are aligned and I hear angels sing. ....................wait. I wonder..................... See how this works? There is no limit to how perfect you can attempt to go. It's a sickness, I tell you. A glorious sickness.
  25. Hey hey, welcome mate! Enjoy your stay. I recommend locking your credit cards away in a safe place for a year or so.
