  1. Roger that. I'm a member of many gen watch fora and one in particular makes great dive watches, and some of their members are here as well. Those watches use simple decorated ETA movements, wrapped up in multiple-thousand dollar gens. The question has been raised over there, what exactly are they getting for their hard earned money? And the replies are subdued at best. I wouldn't say they "hate" reps, but you can't discuss them in the open. To my slow mind, I see a bit of "look over here! look over here as I wave my hand and make an obvious distraction" to get people off the subject of their overpriced "Swiss" watches. Interestingly, a discussion a couple years ago asked about components being made in China, then assembled in Switzerland, and whether then that is truly a "swiss watch". I was surprised to see that discussion stick around awhile. There were a lot of crickets chirping.
  2. I got a call from my daughter 2.5 hours ago, she was stranded far from home and her truck was gone. Don't know if it's stolen or what, but my baby girl was out in the wilds of Alaska in the dark, in a storm, and she was in danger. By God, I was ready to kill. I just drove 175 miles through pitch black, 80mph through howling winds and torrential rain, to bring her home. I got her safe, now I'm sitting here with gallons of adrenaline flowing through my veins. There will be no sleep for hours. It's pitch black out on the mountain, the wind is howling and the rain against the windows sounds like someone is throwing hand fulls of gravel. It's a good night. Raaahhhhrrrrrrrrrrr
  3. A fun thing about Seiko is Harold at Yobokies. Customize to your heart's content, for cheap. http://m161.photobucket.com/albums/yobokies/Hands/?src=www&start=40
  4. Another bizarre observation, in my case when I finally get the gen of a favorite rep, wearing it, looking at it, it's very hard to not look at my wrist and see a rep sitting there. Curious.
  5. Interestingly, I frequent a Land Rover forum for my old Series 2A. On that site the trucks are 40-50 years old and by now most people have replaced their chassis. Many have installed newer engines, often from a different truck. Then there are the disc brake conversions, axle and differential conversions, you name it. I see the replacement part corollaries as: Chassis = case Engine = movement Bodywork = dial/hands Axles = bracelet Curiously none of this matters to them. It still looks like an old Land Rover even though everything has been upgraded. So it's okay. The "rivet counters" are the purists and doubtless they shudder at the upgrades. But 90% of the owners encourage it. Curious the acceptance of "reps" on that site, eh?
  6. Okay, I'm all in ... Ken's left AND right nuts for this one. Sorry about your missing future grandkids Ken, but HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CASE??!!!!

  9. Incredible Story In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University... On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, a nd walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same elephant. This is for all of my friends who send me those heart-warming stories.
  10. WOW that's a great starting point.... as long as the sapphire crystal can be removed, and a plexi installed. I doubt that's going to happen.

  15. Alright gents, it's the buy of the year. Up on Fleabay for GBP 575.00 B.I.N. is a Doxa SUB 300 (no "T") with the orange Professional dial. It looks good, complete, etc. but there is damage to the dial. These are rare as hen's teeth. Yes the damage is non-trivial, but that can be fixed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Doxa-Sub-300-Professional-no-T-very-rare-first-issue-Orange-dial-Doxa-/180955679986
  16. I'll take two DWOs. Hey don't shoot the messenger, these are for starving orphans in Zimbabwe. Honest.
