  1. Say, Andy, is that a Thin Red Line you're talking about?
  2. Yeah, basically a very high resolution inkjet on canvas. At least in the case of my collection.
  3. How about this.... remove the insert, pop on the bezel and see how hard it is to turn. Make sure it's not rubbing the case. Then pop off the bezel, and use some fine emery cloth and rub it just a little around the mating surface inside the bezel where it clicks over the ring. Then clean the residue, reinstall the bezel and see if it turns easier. If it does. you're on the right track. Go slow.
  4. My favorite artist is Fred Machetanz. His best work is, IMO, "Face to face" a painting of a polar bear on an ice floe (see my avatar). I love that piece but the prints on paper (not giclee) go for around $3,000 if you can find one. So I commissioned one from a company that specializes in that. I had it done in oils on canvas and the end result is absolutely superb. Total price with shipping was under $300.
  5. First you post with the implication you're looking for honest opinions about the tropical dial: "Any real help would be greatly appreciated." Then this weird comment: "What a cool way to learn about the forum, its members and the level of knowledge they hold." I don't know if you're being evasive or snarky. Certainly in retrospect it was sarcastic at best. Then the ringer. After many people took the time to carefully evaluate your photos and offer their expert opinion, you come back with: "So far these are all opinions. Easy to say its real or its fake but please back up your reasons if you an expert to call it. IF the color is wrong then can you explain why you know that. A poor picture of a watch dial inside a busted crystal hardly is any help." What? You asked for opinions and now you chastise people for their opinions? Do you think these good people owe you an explanation behind their reasoning? And for the capper: "To say the color is wrong and to not explain why when the color change is due to a paint defect that can be sped up or slowed down by outside sources is a very gutsy call without knowing the history of the dial." So now you finally admit you really do know all about the dial, its paint characteristics, and how and why it faded. So you were lying or misleading us in your first posts. Then you berated the members for offering their opinions, after you asked for opinions. This is not how we operate here on RWG. This fails the smell test about a dozen different ways. If you're looking for opinions, fine. Accept them. If you're trying to show us your amazing knowledge, save it. There are people here that have forgotten more than you've ever learned about vintage Rolex. And if you're trying to impress us with rare vintage pieces, you're wasting your time. People here have more ultra-rare vintages than you can imagine. I suggest you think REAL hard about why you're here, and your approach to RWG. You don't even realize it but you've been extended the courtesy of the benefit of the doubt by quite a few absolute experts here, solely because they're gentlemen. That courtesy is not unlimited. A wise man once said "speak softly and carry a big stick." That's good advice for you to follow.
  6. Holy Frijoles cc33, how did you get MY watch on YOUR arm? Absolutely spectacular.
  7. Plus the brown fade on a tropical always seems to come up from "within" the dial, where this brown looks like it's sitting on top of the paint. Here's more to show what I mean.
  8. Silly boys, don't you know Alaskans are born with 10 or 12 extra nuts? Living in circular igloos and adhering to the phrase "balls to the wall" means we're prone to losing a few until we grow up and learn some sense.
  9. Welcome back big guy. Glad to hear everything's going to be okay. And I didn't even trade off your left nut!
  10. I'm not sure it's a gen dial printing, and I'm pretty sure that's not an authentic tropical fade to brown on the paint. It should be less homogeneous in its fade, like this:
  11. If there are three things that are a constant in life, they are: Death Taxes Ken is logged in to RWG It doesn't matter what time I pop in, Ken is here keeping the fires burning. He's one of the good guys. For him to be gone this long is unprecedented. Something big has happened and he's dealing with it. Hang in there folks, Ken will be back. Hopefully with good news about this absence.
  12. K, my prayers are certainly with you. It's a special kind of hurt a dad feels when his daughter is hurting. Please let me know if there's anything I can do. Anything.
  13. Sounds like you ran into one of the good guys there, Lionsandtigers. I'm glad for you, mate.
  14. Spectacular. What I don't "get" is why Rolex used gilt lettering on some of their tool watches. It's harder to manufacture, it's not as legible under darker conditions, so how come? Although I'm thankful for it!
  15. "If it ain't broke, I ain't fixed it enough yet"
  16. Congratulations! Let's retreat into the Man Cave for beers and grunts.
  17. Did someone say Tudor? Here's the latest magic from the hands of Justasgood.
  18. ...........says the man that makes the world's nicest Tudors! That's fine praise indeed.
