  1. I also use an app called Photosynth to stitch pics together. Here are a couple panoramas I took that look awesome in that app.
  2. I went for a climb 3 nights ago and got some great photos. This is the north approach to McHugh Peak above Rabbit lake. This is where I saw the HUGE mama brown bear and the three adolescents that were hanging around my house the last couple days. Once I got up above treeline and the clouds cleared it was spectacular. I got into knee deep snow and I was wearing shorts and low boots and it started getting dark and traction was bad so I had to turn back. In order, these are photos of the lower approach, then a shot of the bare ground, the wind blows so hard it has eroded the rocks into "wave" shapes like water. There's a shot of Ptarmigan Peak, to its right is North Suicide Peak and beneath them in the clouds is Rabbit Lake. It was a glorious climb, not a breath of wind and absolutely silent. What a treat!
  3. Haaaaaa! This stuff definitely smells of pepper. No bells, but some small dog collars...
  4. Yep, ongoing. I put the fear of God in them last night and today there's no sign of them, except for the bear crap everywhere. Here's my Tudor Sh!tflake posing
  5. Yeah they're adolescents. You never see adults together like this unless at a salmon stream. Their mama is HUGE, I saw all 4 together up by Rabbit lake a week ago, now she's chased them off and they're on their own learning where they're welcome, and not welcome.
  6. Tapatalk is down, or I'd upload a bunch of photos. So far so good this AM, I chased them off 11:30 last night and they stayed gone... so far. My two dogs or all the neighborhood dogs couldn't chase them off, they're being a little too aggressive to live long around here. I gotta get right in their faces and that's getting a little old. We'll see what the day brings.
  7. Sorry I've been offline folks, I've had 3 brown bears hanging around the house and I've been out chasing them off with rocks and a 2x4 all day. Stinking bears are bedded down in my yard, I might have to shoot them tomorrow. Hope not. I'll respond to PMs and stuff when I can.
  8. Absolutely! This place exists to share watch information. If you've had a good buying and service experience let's hear about it. Likewise if you've been burned we're all ears. Other sites will ban you for daring to name another watch site ... we expect it. In fact we demand it. At least 5 a day for newbs. So get crackin.
  9. Okay so I won't tell you about the set of hands for a 6541 Milgauss for sale on Fleabay. $23,000 The bracelet on my 1665 was so stretched it was dangerous, so I found one on Fleabay for $400. It had someone else's initials engraved on the clasp. Ten minutes with my DeWalt grinder had it on my wrist.
  10. A picture is worth 1,000 words. How many of us would love to do this to a gen Rolex?
  11. +1 Blue Loctite is your friend. If the threads are wrong and the screw just WILL NOT stay tight, as if its hole is slightly too large, then there's a do-or-die trick. I've done this on aftermarket Oyster bracelets. Use some pliers and squeeze the screw by its threads until the shaft of the screw goes slightly oval. This will also booger up the screw threads a little. Then you'll have one chance to put the screw in and it will stay. Don't plan on taking it apart again or having an adjustment point there in the future.
  12. It's a Who-bilation Jubilation!
  13. You're probably right. Several people have been mauled and killed by bears in the city limits in the last few years. And stomped to death by moose. Cute cuddly Bullwinkles? Don't count on it.
  14. Venison is nice but the BEST is springtime black bear, when they're just out of hibernation, nice and lean and they haven't got into the salmon yet. Yum! Pictures? Here's one:
  15. Alright you want proof? Here's three moose in the back yard.... just look at all those steaks walking around out there!
  16. Yikes you guys are exotic! I've been eating caribou, bear and moose steaks, carrots from the garden, Honeycrisp apples and lots of leaf spinach.
  17. Wow! I remember when you useta haveta "know a guy who knows a guy" to get something nice like this.
  18. Thanks gents! My "modding" in the past has tended toward the barbaric (cough) so this attempt at actually improving a watch ... well it's very gratifying when it earns your approval.
  19. Would that make this a Tudol Snowfrake?
  20. I finally got my Tudor Snowflake put together and was happy as a pig in an orchard. But a small nagging voice kept after me... something was not quite right. Suddenly I realized this was my chance to go big with an UBERDOME project! So out came the tools and my stash of über rare NOS Superdome Tropic 39 crystals. I had bought four of the beasties, one lives on my 1665, I gave one away, and had two left. So I compared the revealed sidewall height of a T39 on my 1665 with the sidewall height of my service replacement T19 on the Snowflake, and went to work. I ground off material from the sidewall and then mounted it to check my progress, repeating the process until I got it where I wanted it. Then tragedy struck ... I dropped the Superdome Tropic 39. In slow motion I watched it fall, diving like Babe Ruth reaching for first base as it fell.... and I missed it by that much. I pulled its tattered remains out from under the Rover, and a huge pie shaped piece was broken off the skirt. Tragedy!! So out came the last one... the last soldier standing. It was do or die. I repeated the process, grinding carefully to remove material and test fitting, and finally got it. I pressed it all together, checked for waterproofness and I'm satisfied with the result. Here's my "Superdome Tropic 19" that sprung from the loins of a NOS Superdome 39. I like the look. All Hail the Dome!
  21. That was a good price. If you want a fat fonts insert expect to pay multiples of that number.
  22. Yes the 1665 bezel is much thicker than a 1680, so it covers maybe 2mm more of the crystal sidewall. There are different 1665 bezel "apparent" thicknesses too, by the depth of the knurling. Mine has the very rare extra thick bezel:
