  1. When I use it (all the time) it means "Huh. Wow. Let me think about that for a minute." Shorthand: HWLMTATFAM
  2. Indeed it is! Slate grey insert from an early 1680 and I think it's a 7016 "leprosy" dial, all flaky and coming apart. Now I need polished tip springbars!
  3. Thanks! This one is loaded with cool details. Boy does she wear nice!
  4. Enjoy, lads! This took about a year to put together. The pearl and Superdome happened tonight, now I can call 'er finished.
  5. Nahhhhhhhhh, nothing to worry about there. Have you ever seen a cat running around a couch chasing a mouse? Or a dog chasing around tall grass sniffing out a rabbit? All excited and hyper? That's what those bears were doing. See the ears were up and they were bounding? They were jazzed and excited about something. If their ears were back flat and they were running low with their heads down, then you'd be in deeeeeeep shinola.
  6. Great video! That wasn't a charge though. The bears were excited and smelled something, and were ranging around in the trees looking for it. They have terrible eyesight but great noses. If they had charged ... imagine thoroughbred horse speeds, 10 to 15 foot strides and snarling, popping jaws. That's a charge. You'll be changing your tidy whities afterward.
  7. 11.2MSL on R18 and 10.8MSL on R36 Good news, they DID finally get the dead caribou off the end of the runway.
  8. I read that you can use alcohol to get the lume guts out. Anyone here tried that? I've been buying Yuki's empty pearls and filling them with custom tinted lacquer to match my dials.
  9. Actually it's the Black bears that are most dangerous. You can always tell what a Brown bear will do, and 90% of the time you can chase them off without getting charged. But a Black bear is psycho. They're a lot smaller but totally unpredictable. When I'm out on my mtn bike and run across one, I immediately go full gonzo aggressive psycho on him before he gets a chance to think. So far they've all turned tail and run, except for one ... he stood there for 3 or 4 minutes and just stared at me. That was baaaaaaaaaaad. REALLY bad. My most dangerous encounter yet.
  10. Technically, sorta. The Grizzly and Alaskan (Kodiak) Brown bears are subspecies of Ursus arctos. A Grizzly will get up to about 7' tall and a Brown bear here will get up to about 12' tall.
  11. Nope, ain't me. My mug would break the camera. Yogi is lying on the ground because he told the man to give him a paw massage and pedicure. "Mmmmm, yeah, right there... a little more pressure on the wrist. Ohhhhh yeah baby. Just like that."
  12. I tried JMB's automated method to reshape the inner curves with a drill press, but I'm just not getting a good result. Maybe it's my tools?
  13. You thought you were at the top of the food chain?
  14. Hours hand should just touch the 6:00 and 9:00 markers. Minutes hand tip should just extend to the outer edge of the 5-minute markers. Minutes hand shaft should be subtly narrower than the shaft of the hours hand. The hands' borders should not be as glossy as this photo. Seconds hand diamond at its widest extent should be bisected by the tip of the 6:00 and 9:00 hour indices.
  15. Or he could roundhouse kick all the leaves off.
  16. Freddy, I think you're right to a large extent (except for any tacit endorsement of *bleck* PAMs). If only we could take all the best parts and assemble them into lovely representations of the real thing!!! Wait..........
  17. That's right, baby. Everything's even better looking in person.
  18. Pam's proper ........... ummmm, Proper........ er, ummmmmm..... huh? What were you saying?
  19. Pams? PAMS??! You would pollute my thread with the stench of PAMS??!! Off with his head!
  20. Please excuse the lousy photo, but I wanted to show just how far we haven't come in the world of reps. Here's my DRSD, straight from Maria 12 years ago. I made a couple modifications, that's all. Most noticeable is the datewheel. It's silver, and it's almost perfect with correct open 6s and 9s. Where did I get it? From a "Paul's" Red Sub ... bought 10 years ago.
  21. "Summer project"? Dude, it's 28 degrees out. Aren't we sorta past "Summer" now? Where's my skis?!!! And why does this picture remind me of an old girlfriend?
  22. You're in luck with vintage Rolex, as their bracelets are so cheap and tinny they feel like the real thing!
  23. Bingo! That's a pretty bad dropoff there and my favorite wife's neck is getting progressively worse, doesn't turn as well, so I built something she'd have trouble getting through. The ties are 16 feet long and about 300 lbs each, and I have them high enough she'll feel them with her bumper instead of just hitting them with a tire. I'm planning for them to initiate snow drifts the length of the driveway this winter too, so even when they're buried they'll still do their job. I'm thinking of driving rebar down through them, I'll see how they hold up after they get hit a few times. You know what would be cool.... to wrap rope lights all along there this Christmas! Yeah!
