Very nice! ClassicWatchParts.com has bezels and this shady character here named JMB made some dials from scratch. He's good people. If that doesn't work there are other sources too. That watch is a beauty and deserves the time it will take to do it right.

Vlydog, sorry but I looked and no joy... no extra tension rings. To get the "push to turn" behavior, take your mostly flat tension ring and give it some character: grab it at 3:00 and 9:00 and give it some bend. Rounded kinks, if you will. Then switch and do the same at 12:00 and 6:00. The higher the kinks, the harder it will be to push it down and turn. It will be a bearcat to fit correctly after this, but that's how to do it.

NICE!!! That's a piece of history there. My motorcycle was built by Honda's El Maestro, who was trained by Kaz Yoshima. I've got a bunch of Ti parts in it that came home from Suzuka in the late 70s. More history. The engine was strong, but not quite right... then I talked to Kaz and he found out who had built it, and got all excited. He hand-bent me a pipe to match the engine, and the results are spectacular. It starts off sounding like one of the Three Tenors, and when it breaks 7,500rpm it sounds like a coronet on steroids. It curls your toes, partly from the sheer volume, and partly from the pure resonant tone it makes. There's just nothing like a strong engine with correct tuning.

You got it... there's another resonance in there that makes it hard to name. Maybe a cello standing on a soapbox?

That's right, cyclops and tophats aren't my cup of tea. Check out the look you get when you trim down a Tropic-39 and fit it to a Snowflake. I could take it down maybe one more mm to get it just right.

Here's a tangential thought.... have you ever thought of the correlation between the number of cylinders and exhaust tone, to the tones produced by musical instruments? I've always thought a 3-cylinder sounded a lot like a bassoon, a 4-cylinder like a clarinet, and a good v8 like a trombone. Listen to one of Honda's 6 cylinder 250 GP race enginces from the 60s and you'll almost hear a flute. I bet it has something to do with the resonant frequencies and harmonics.

You'll have to measure the ID and OD of the old crystal and see what's out there to replace it. Sternkreuz and G&S are good suppliers. It might even match up to something from Clarks. The tropic-38 domed crystal is a replacement for the gen cyclops piece ... if it fit, that's the route I'd take. Gorgeous combination. I think Watchbitz can get these replacement crystals? Dunno.......

Yes, all the same. Give it a few scientifically designed bends with your thumbs and fingers before you install it, to increase the spring tension between the retaining ring and bezel. Then you'll get the standard "push down to turn" behavior.

Gents, there has recently been what appears to be a Conquistador SUB 300T for sale on eBay. This is arguably the rarest of all Doxa dive watches. I've been watching it closely for several weeks, and nearly jumped on it. This morning I did some research and I'm convinced it is not complete, nor authentic. * A genuine Conquistador crown is not signed. From the fleabay photos it almost appears to wear a Jenny Fish logo on the crown. Perhaps a reflection? The crown end should be more domed. * The helium relief valve on the Conquistador should have distinct inner and outer concentric pieces. The fleabay photos look like the end of a steel plug with a vague "ring" engraved in it. * The bezel on a Conquistador should have tiny inner ring tick marks like a SUB 300 (no "T"). The fleabay watch inner ring has tick marks like a SUB 300T Sharkhunter. * And the real kicker, there is no USD logo in the 3rd quadrant of the fleabay dial. I think I'll keep my money in my pocket. Caveat Emptor.

This thread has run its course, we've all had a chance to get it off our chest, we've agreed to disagree. Now we're to the point where personal attacks have replaced intelligent discourse, so I'm shutting it down. This place does not exist as a platform from which to launch attacks; we are a band of brothers and have been for well over a decade. Reading this thread carefully, it appears we are at loggerheads and will have to agree to disagree. Apologies have been made, and accepted, and I suggest it's time to put this behind us. Beating a dead horse rarely makes it reach its destination sooner. As for me, I sincerely believe Freddy's watch is genuine, knowing what I do about the company that repainted his dial, their business ethics, and their clientele. I'm sure there are howls of outrage as I say that; I really don't care. Like I said, we agree to disagree. I had many long, detailed conversations with Freddy as he sourced parts and built it, and that's where I formed my very detailed opinion about "what" it is. If I thought it was a rep, I wouldn't have posted it over there. Regardless, as a leader here it is incumbent on me to set standards, not break them. Our rules here apply to everyone, me included. It is opaquely against the rules to post reps on gen sites, as Offshore pointed out, with consequences up to and including a permanent ban. To those that don't know me well, or understand my propensity to push people's buttons, I apologize. My actions looked like a flagrant rules violation to you.
