There's a Phong Snowflake for sale right now, around $700-ish. For $100 more you're getting a MUCH better case, correct caseback, and far better dial and hands. Plus his date font has very accurate small serifs. I spent near $1,100 on a couple cheaper builds before I finally bit the bullet and did it right. Sometimes you gotta spend more to save a lot. At least I do.
Ohhhhhh, you REALLY don't want what's left of the 7206. Its smoking remains aren't fit for discussion in polite company.
Let's just say there was a lovely 12-year Glenfiddich and screwdrivers, pliers, a hammer and a punch involved.
I salvaged two "expanding" links that I fit into my non-expanding 7206 from Yuki, so now it works like a Doxa band. The last remaining piece of usable steel from the poor thing went into my 7836 at the narrow "fixed" end and works like a charm. You have to look close to see the rivet heads and it blends right in. And now it fits too!
Thanks gents! A link from the narrow end would be great, ideally the fixed end (not the adjustment end within the clasp). Got any? I'd appreciate it, and will be happy to PP some case to cover it, and shipping.
Gents, a lovely 7836 from Mary just arrived on these frigid shores, and it's really nice, but my enormous manly wrists find it too tight on my Snowflake.
I bastardized in a riveted link from a castoff 7206 but everything that's right and true with my Vintage world has been violated by the addition of rivets to a folded bracelet.
So... does anyone have a folded oyster link they will part with? From a 9315 or 7836, I don't care, I can make it work.
Thanks in advance!
Highoey, the Ofrei is filled with green lume and Yuki is filled with yak-pee yellow. Both need to be drilled out and custom filled to look right. I wrote up some details on this awhile back.
51, that is actually a good price, you'd spend $150 for a gen, that will look 95% identical.
As far as rep bracelets go, my favorite so far is a Yuki 7206, with a caveat... I've spent a YEAR getting it just right. Now it feels all old and stretched and glorious, just like a $1,000 piece. Looks great, fits great (because I inserted two stretch links), love it.
For gen bracelets nothing beats the Doxa "beads of rice". Next is a stretched 9315 or 7836, as long as you've gone over the clasp and done some major smoothing.
Interesting.... verrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting.
Bear in mind the hole diameters are different for vintage vs. contemporary pearls. A vintage hole is a teeny pathetic little thing, and I could see a vintage pearl nearly falling through a contemporary hole.
Wow that's hilarious. My initial thought would be, "why is this person waiting at the airport for someone he doesn't know, doesn't care about, and thinks is deranged"?
Remove the insert from the bezel, then push out the old pearl from the back with a needle or pencil. Or just do like I do and bash it against something and smash it to pieces as you wear it.
Use a small amount of glue to hold the new pearl in place, if it gets on the inner/hidden face of the insert wipe it off before you snap the insert into the bezel again.
Be careful and patient... a good fitting pearl can be a BEAR to fit into its hole square and seated.
