  1. Ah, unfortunately the Black Lung went to someone else. Although I did find out who the lucky winner is for the T-Graph Sub 200, an over-the-top cool Doxa if ever there was one! @Shundi, if you ever see another BL for sale, you better pawn a kidney and buy the thing. I know of 5 proven examples now, in the entire visible universe.
  2. I don't get what steaks have to do with fixing the watch, but I'm in!
  3. Yeah there's sharks circling for sure. I think it will end about where it did last time he listed it... around $2800. That seems like a lot, but consider how much a vintage Rollie would go for, if there were only 5 or 6 of them in existence! If he does sell it (meets his reserve) it would be nice to know where it goes. Gotta keep track of the herd!
  4. Hey that T-graph 200 chrono is ending in a few hours... are you in?
  5. I have what I hope is a simple question: both my vintage Doxa divers have the same weirdness. From what I can glean in Google, they're both powered by the ETA 2472. Periodically I'll notice that the watch is still ticking and the seconds hand is moving normally but the minute and hour hands have stopped moving. They are not touching, nor is the seconds hand touching them. When I reset the time, it takes off and works normally. One of them never does it while I wear the watch but it will do it when I take it off overnight. The other one does it sporadically, even when I'm wearing it. So my question: is this a matter of a simple cleaning and (hopefully) an adjustment? I'm hoping it's just a sloppy or worn jewel that's letting a wheel come out of contact with its neighbor. And since this is an ETA movement, if a staff is worn, shouldn't parts be readily available? Thanks in advance!
  6. Better keep an eye on the website, Iditarod is starting again THIS WEEKEND! And I'm pulling for Lance to win it again. Were you aware he won the Yukon Quest and Iditarod in the same year? All the seasoned mushers said it is impossible to win both 1,000 mile races back to back... and Lance did it. Then he came back last year and did it AGAIN. The man has raised the bar. Now he belongs up there with Redington, Vaughan, Seavey and his dad.
  7. Don Bowers was a middle of the pack musher who kept very detailed notes about the trail to Nome. He was killed in a small plane accident a few years back and I saved all his work just because... it's the right thing to do. If you want a real taste of what it's like to run the Iditarod... Click here
  8. Yeah Dems, you should have seen Lance last year when he won in Nome. There's a real special bond between mushers and their team.
  9. Hi Bill, and welcome! That's a vintage riveted/expanding oyster bracelet, the infamous hair grabber. It's definitely worth repairing. I don't know if any modders here have done that kind of bracelet work; you can search them out and ask. Barring that, I know a couple of very good Rolex watchmakers in the Seattle area that might be happy to take it on. Cheers!
  10. It is my firm belief that we could take a random sample of any 500 members of this board, replace the entire USA Congress, and the nation would have better leadership and planning ability. Except for Miss Understood.
  11. I wonder if they can squeeze his photo on this front cover?
  12. This is a great story about the bonds between a musher and his team. Babe's last run to Nome

Beautiful piece, and besides it's one of the most useful watches out there. I teach compass skills and navigation to Boy Scouts with mine. My personal feeling is, this is a model whose prices haven't taken a jump yet, like the 1680 and 551* Subs have.
  14. Very nice! Wanna trade one BILLLLLLLLLLLLLLION snowflakes for your one Snowflake? One BILLLLLLLION Snowflakes
  15. Very nice! Assuming the case is the right diameter, what crystal did you use? I have a gen tropic 18 on mine and it doesn't look nearly as nice as those! Speaking of which... if anyone wants to do up a 6536-1 I have the correct crystal, a gen tropic 16. But I need to sell it for quite a bit to recover the money I have tied up in it............ just tossing that out there.
  16. I just picked up a vintage Doxa Sharkhunter and I tried it on a vintage steel rice beads bracelet. It really looks better on black leather. But my vintage Doxa Pro (orange dial) is KILLER on a stainless bracelet, and the leather looks only so-so. It all depends on the model and the color and your personal taste, I guess.
  17. Roger that, Stephane ... The last 9 watches I bought were all gens. Rock on RWG as THE definitive source of watch information!
  18. You traded in a Squale Tiger? I'm betting they each get up around $2500 and the Tgraph even higher.
  19. The Divingstar and T-Graph were both put up as buy-it-now for $300 each *jaw drops* and were gone in seconds. Apparently those were typos as the old auctions are both gone, and both are now relisted. Once you go Doxa, you won't go back. It's the other dive watch!
  20. An actual 'Letter to the Editor' from the February 5th edition of the Wichita Falls, Texas Times Record News... Dear IRS, I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to pay taxes owed April 15, but all is not lost. I have paid these taxes: accounts receivable tax, building permit tax, CDL tax, cigarette tax, corporate income tax, dog licence tax, federal income tax, unemployment tax, gasoline tax, hunting licence tax, fishing licence tax, waterfowl stamp tax, inheritance tax, inventory tax, liquor tax, luxury tax, medicare tax, city, school and county property tax (up 33 percent last 4 years), real estate tax, social security tax, road usage tax, toll road tax, state and city sales tax, recreational vehicle tax, state franchise tax, state unemployment tax, telephone federal excise tax, telephone federal state and local surcharge tax, telephone minimum usage surcharge tax, telephone state and local tax, utility tax, vehicle licence registration tax, capitol gains tax, lease severance tax, oil and gas assessment tax, Colorado property tax, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and New Mexico sales tax, and many more that I can't recall but I have run out of space and money. When you do not receive my check April 15, just know that it is an honest mistake. Please treat me the same way you treated Congressmen Charles Rangle, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and ex-Congressman Tom Dashelle and, of course, your boss Timothy Geithner. No penalties and no interest. P.S. I will make at least a partial payment as soon as I get my stimulus check. Ed Barnett Wichita Falls
  21. Ah, yes... sorry! It was a favorite quote of Scott Powell, Ranger at Scout Camp for 15 years. It was his way of encouraging hesitant boys to step up and do their best. It applies to everyone: a noob attempting to take his caseback off for the first time, or a modder trying something new with a plexi insert on a 6542 franken. We're all on a learning curve of different sorts!
  22. "The woods would be a quiet place if only the best birds sang."
  23. Now's your chance! There is a Black Lung right now on the 'Bay. Buy it and we can corner the world market.
  24. Okay lads, opportunity is knocking. There are three very rare Doxas on the 'Bay right now. Open yer wallets and join the club! * Divingstar 300T - rare yellow dialed model, only a few were produced. 150329191134 * T-graph 200 pro chrono - ultra rare dive chrono with the orange dial 160318212959 * Black Lung - the seller says there may be 7 or 8. I personally know of only 4. The coolest Doxa of all. 150329191600
