  1. We do things a little different here in Alaska. Since early December we've had -30 to -60 temps and just last week, the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships. FIS regulations meant we couldn't race three of the days due to the cold. So in protest some of the skiers did hot laps at -10F wearing nothing but undies and a smile. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about. http://www.fasterskier.com/racing6005.html
  2. Hey now.... stay away from the one I'm buying. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Wait... the one I *might* be interested in buying!
  3. Take all the emotion out of it???? Pfffffffft. It's all about the emotion. 1) Identify target 2) Crush competition 3) Achieve victory
  4. Ah, not to worry... I meant it as purely a distraction so nobody will find the watch I'm REALLY after!
  5. Someone STOLE this watch on the 'Bay this morning. It should have gone for close to $1,000 $298 and Robert's yer uncle. Dang. Who needs a rep when gens go for these prices? Jenny Caribbean heartbreaker
  6. Do you remember a couple years ago someone tried this technique to get a vintage, aged, slightly yellowed look to a tropic crystal? All was going well, then the crystal suddenly started crazing and he had to abandon the experiment.
  7. Wow Chris be sure to post some photos when it arrives! That movement looks, to me, a lot like an older ETA. So yes, the same as an older Tudor. I keep telling people that old dive watches are the way to go. They're loaded with good parts and you can get buckets of them for a song. The hard part is being choosy and being willing to pass on something as gorgeous as this Squale! But next time a Jenny 1000 comes along for less than the price of a lung... don't get in my way! PS: Hi Euno! Let's see some divers!
  8. Yowza! You might like this one too...
  9. Yeah baby! THOSE are memories.
  10. This one's a beauty... and if someone needs a crown and tube for a Doxa diver this just might be your solution! Squale diver
  11. TT forgot to mention the requirement of sending Admin a nice bottle of adult beverage. The name Johnny Walker comes to mind...
  12. Congratulations! This past week my nephews were in the midwest playing a big tournament (Honey somethingorother Hams or something) and it's a pretty big deal... their team is the Alaska All-Stars. They won the tournament, and my nephew scored! Hopefully some day they can keep going and wind up at the level of play Ziggy's describing. And I'm all for the quality of play you see there, it's so much more fun to watch than the goon leagues.
  13. Here's to another free trip around the Sun!!
  14. Gigandet/Breitling triple date AOPA chrono in the snow at -28F
  15. I couldn't have said it better. There's a sense of satisfaction or accomplishment that comes from doing it yourself, instead of simply writing a check. Well done.
  16. Ah, Dems and JTB it's good to have you back!
  17. Happy birthday big guy!
  18. Exactly ... my old MBW is fading to a charcoal grey, not brown.
  19. I wonder if the black background could be coaxed into fading to chocolate?
  20. Greetings from the arctic! We're supposed to get up to -20F today, yesterday was a bit colder and I got some nice photos on my walk in the woods. My trail Every picture tells a story I saw a couple of moose... the dog did NOT appreciate them A wrist shot, how long have I been out here anyway? Late in the day the sun came out
  21. She's a beauty. And that's a reeeeaaaallly nice dial! Tell me more about the red fading technique?
  22. Spectacular !!!
  23. Because watches are art as well as functional, your tastes are going to change. I bought my old Land Rover because I wanted the best 4WD out there, by engineering and performance standards. How it looks is way down the list of attributes. What matters most in a watch is how it...... (fill in the blank) If your answer is not "works" then there is no Ultimate for you.
  24. There's a few good ones out there but they expect a certain version of Windows... XP or the dreaded Vista. Whatcha got?
  25. IMHO there will never be an Ultimate, The Watch. Our tastes change. I've thought many times that I've "finally got the Ultimate piece" only to find 6 months later, my eyes being drawn away by some tart on an orange strap. I went the same route with a P.O. and ultimately gave them both away. Yes they're wonderful, but no they were not The One. It doesn't exist. Sorry.
