  1. Buncha smart-alecks. Okay I take back the wazzoo part.
  2. How about a gen?
  3. Lani, as always you bring class and generosity to the table. Next time you're in Alaska drinks and adventure are on me! We have a pretty good ER now so that frees up a lot of otherwise inadvisable activities. My hat's off to the Admin and Mods teams... a class act if ever there was one!
  4. So far there isn't a rep of it, but sporadic examples pop up of the non-chrono version...
  5. Why limit it to yellow OR orange? Get both!
  6. One man's loss is another man's gain. I smell opportunity out the wazzoo.
  7. Welcome! You'll find this place is a cornucopia of information... Lots of good reviews and tech articles too. Primary rule: buy the seller NOT the watch. Read, read, and read some more.
  8. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. No thanks.
  9. Well, not exactly "one" of a kind, there are three others. Wouldn't you cause a stir if you registered over there and posted pics of my Black Lung! You'd hear the palpitations all the way to Hawaii. And then they'd ban your sorry a$$ too. HERESY!!! BURN THE WITCH!!! I got an email from one of the other three guys, listing his lug engravings. I used the best magnification I've got and spotted similar engraved numbers but, taking a trick from the vintage Rolex playbook, my Doxa engravings are deployed on different lugs than his. Interestingly mine has engraved on the caseback "11889-4" which would seem to correspond to watch #4. Must... buy... bigger... crowbar!! My other watches are starting to feel abandoned and are booking vacations to places where the sun is shining.
  10. I just can't... seem... to pry... this beauty off... my wrist! .... *struggle struggle* Although, you can see the marks from the crowbar.....
  11. Very nice catch! Those vintage ladies watches are magnificent. Here's what the delectable Ms. Nanuq wears, with another size comparison:
  12. Awwwww, garsh! *shuffling my feet* Note the time on the Sub... I took that photo just after midnight last summer. Now, we barely have that much daylight at high noon! Anyone got a flashlight they can lend for, oh, 6 months?
  13. It looks like Freddy and I are on the same wavelength today... no-crown-guards Rolex for me too! Ah, wait a minute... I was so mesmerized by the 6542 that I didn't see he's NOT WEARING IT TODAY!
  14. Ummmmmmmmmmm............. Just because it was listed at nearly Six Large certainly doesn't justify $600 for *cough* THAT. For a wife/gf watch the 'Bay is your friend. Remember to "buy the seller, not the watch" and then go looking for solid gold vintage Rolex/Tudor ladies watches. $200 to $300 and potentially a trip to Ziggy's spa will get you a piece that will last a lifetime.
  15. This ought to be helpful to some... Movement cross reference
  16. @Ubi there's a really nice vintage on the 'Bay, it was $780 last night....
  17. Bingo! Where's Freddy?
  18. Lani takes one for the team! You're a brave, brave man.
  19. Watch out... Delta's going to try to sell you his COMEX ... the biggest hunk of steel you've ever seen. Seriously, we talk about everything here. A member just finished a Rolex Explorer 1016 that we all went bananas over (except Delta with his obsession about HUGE watches) and the Explorer is a diminutive 36mm or so. Enjoy your stay, I think you'll find this place to your liking. And check out the photos of Delta's collection... he's got a lot of beautiful pieces. The man knows what he's talking about.
  20. I get a lot of PMs too, usually about ( name deleted ) and his shenanigans. No, seriously... this place is all about spreading ACCURATE information about watches. We learn and we share. And the more we share it, the more people there are to chime in and answer questions. It's the old saying "a rising tide floats all boats". I say thanks to all the great members here that MAKE this place great!!
  21. Sheesh am I late to the show or what?! I got a PM from another member asking about these riveted pins so I made a little drawing: You can see the rivet presses into the pin. Both have rounded heads and it's a friction fit that holds them together. Just get in there under the head of the rivet with a pocketknife and pry a little, and the rivet will pop right out... and get lost in the carpet. So do it over a table with a cloth over your hands. Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.
  22. Is it the coronet or the fliplock that has the problem? It looks like you could repair the fliplock easily with two replacement rivet pins. If all else fails you can get those at a jewelry repair shop and bam, Robert's your uncle. I had a pin fail there, and it was an easy repair. Here's mine:

The pig may be busted but the stories of 1,200 and 1,600 lb brown bears are true. There's no words to describe how it feels in the pit of your stomache when you run into one in the wild. Here's a nice little one, maybe 600# ... so I wasn't afraid to get too close. Close enough?

Yep we grow 'em big here in Alaska. Some of the bear story is true, part has been added on, as humans are bound to do. There are many versions of this story floating around out there. If I remember this was on Hincuinbrook Island and there are very few people there, certainly not enough for a bear to have eaten two other people in the preceding week. And the human remains are a jogger from someplace else. But that is indeed one big bear.
  25. FXR is on the right track. When is someone going to give us a GOOD FF? Cmon guys... plexi crystals aren't that hard.
