  1. Very nice collection, and photos! You’ll be a great addition to the forum. Welcome aboard!
  2. "Scaphandre Cousteau-Gagnan" a very early dive reference which led to the case backs on today’s Dan Henry compressor cases.
  3. Every time I look at this thread you take it up another notch. I love that Spirotechnique dial!!!
  4. @Fraggle42 it sucks to hear the Big C caught up to you, but you sound in great spirits. Let us know if we can do anything for you. If you need a bulk service for lots o’ watches try MyManMatt, he does great work. Get better soon, buddy! You’ve been officially warned!
  5. Subtle perfection... just like all your pieces. [emoji3590]
  6. They have a policy NOT to allow photos of dials showing logos. But there are a couple dozen people over there making incredibly good dials. Cruise the For Sale topics and people list the ingredients that went into their watches. Find dials you like the looks of, read who made them, and send them a PM. That's where these came from.
  7. Gratulerer med Sankthansaften! Twenty five minutes until Midsummer, light the bonfire! https://www.bypatrioten.com/byblogg/slinningsbaalet-fyll-fjorden-eller-se-livesendingen/
  8. "Sir, is that a vintage 1963 Land Rover Series 2A you're driving, with cross-your-fingers drum brakes and powered by the 2.25L petrol engine making 65 horsepower?" "No, it is an aftermarket galvanized chassis with a turbo-diesel Mercedes engine, on Range Rover axles with disc brakes, power steering and coil suspension, and uses 2 original body panels and steering wheel." What may I ask is the difference?" "It's much faster and safer. Otherwise it looks identical."
  9. Dunno your diameter but here are some as a starting point. https://www.ebay.com/itm/172385220185
  10. When you find your new insert I can recommend an adhesive to hold it in place. Some guy on eBay sells circular 3M Adhesive stickers pre-punched to fit watch bezels. Peel off the protective backing, punch out the donut hole, put the adhesive ring in place (it's VERY thin and gummy) and place your insert on the adhesive. You'll ruin a few getting it right, but a 10-pack was like $5 and they work great.
  11. I got out the Little Gonzo today in honor of seeing my grandbaby for the first time.
  12. Have a blessed Memorial Day
  13. I had an interesting email back-and-forth in the last couple months with a very well known vintage Rolex expert and I suggested many of the pieces that show up at GTGs wore aftermarket parts disguised to look distressed and old, precisely because of the lack of genuine parts. I said IMO that is no reason to retire a watch. We had to agree to disagree. I think he's in for a rude awakening.
  14. Sure I can, but I learned a looooooong time ago to never do for a young person that which he can do for himself. Look... 11.653 results. Enjoy!
  15. Magnificent. I've been thinking about a replacement for what I have now on the 6204.
  16. There are about 1,200 pages of discussion available by the search tool. Enjoy!
  17. Wow, I’d like to see a pic of that. I have a gen MkII on the Big Gonzo and it’s crumbling like the metal substrate was rolled out wrong or something.
  18. Boy you solved that problem with the lume, it looks great!
  19. Curious, Adding sapphire and Luminova to a vintage watch would ruin it. Would you replace the carburetors with fuel injection on a 60s Pontiac “Six Pack”? Would you put an automatic transmission in a 60s Shelby Cobra? Would you drop an electric motor in a Model A Ford? These old things are appreciated as throwbacks to earlier years precisely of their anachronistic parts and quirks. That’s why people search for years to find the right plastic crystal for their watch and happily pay hundreds of dollars for it. Newer is not always better.
  20. No the 6538 is far different from a 6542. A 6536 is much closer. In the end I told him to pound sand and didn't do the case mod.
  21. I had a pretty nice, very expensive 6538 case from MQ and wanted the lug tips more canoe shaped so I asked if he could weld metal on and machine it, and sent a pic. He replied “Case is junk, is not my case”. Ok scratch MQ, hello Phong.
  22. Exactly right. There is ONE Phong, like there used to be ONE Maria and he wouldn’t make time to educate you. “HI I need a 6538 case engraved with this serial number and a faded no hash marks red triangle insert, lightly aged.” He’d reply with a price and when you sent payment your were in his work queue. No chit chat. He’s actually a pretty good watchmaker and I needed something tricky done that had stumped 3 other guys. I took the chance and said “I have this problem, 3 other people said it can’t be done” and he said “send it to me” and he did it. Compared to Minh Quy this is kid gloves treatment.
