  1. All of the Swiss 6497-1s I have suffer from a bit of crown wind-back, i.e. after you release the crown from a turn it springs back in the opposite direction a small amount. Neither of my gen PAMs do this, they seem to have some sort of catch that prevents it. I don't know if that is a function of all 6497-2s or if it is something that SOPROD does? Any thoughts on that, PAMman?
  2. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn09002-bracelet-w...erve-p-399.html -- sssurfer will tell you this movement is great, and he's probably right, but I don't like Contemporary PAMs, and I don't like bracelets, so this one won't get my vote. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00101-swiss-unitas-6497-p-778.html -- This is a great watch. Sausage dials are more correct than the sandwich dials, closed case backs hide the movement's visual flaws. This watch would get my vote. Get the canon pin fixed, the dial relumed and have a thicker crown installed. It suffers from the low cross bars on the "A"s, but almost all of the Historic reps do... http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00401-marina-swi...6497-p-799.html -- Same dial as the 001B above, which is a good thing. The caseback is slightly incorrect (should be OP6519, not OP6518) and the PVD coating is miles off. A cool watch, but needs more "fixing" than the 001B. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00501-logo-swiss...497-p-4135.html -- the OP logo is all wrong on this watch. I'm not a fan of that crown, either. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00501-logo-swiss...497-p-4135.html -- Same watch as above... http://www.pc-80108.com/pn19501-logo-swiss...6497-p-588.html -- Fantasy watch. See above comments about the OP logo and PVD treatment. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn17702-titanium-s...neck-p-868.html -- Check with Josh, I believe this watch is permanently out of stock. The movement uses a needle shaped regulator, should be dagger shaped. Dial is off, like all sandwich dial reps. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00503-logo-swiss...6497-p-874.html -- Same comments as the PAM005 links above. Oh, and I don't like bracelets. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn00901-base-swiss...6497-p-622.html -- Cool watch, I love base dials. PVD coating is incorrect, as stated above. Also, check with Josh, I don't believe this watch is available anymore, either. http://www.pc-80108.com/pn19603-daylight-c...7753-p-882.html -- Great watch, great movement. My favorite PAM chrono. The old case was more accurate, but they're gone now. Pricey... http://www.pc-80108.com/pn25001-2006-dayli...753-p-1118.html -- I much prefer the PAM196 dial to this one. Otherwise, see above... http://www.pc-80108.com/pn17201-tantalium-...497-p-2035.html -- Check with Josh, but I don't think this watch is available anymore. There you have it. Those are my *opinions*. You asked for it, you got it. Others will likely disagree with some of the things I said, but those are my preferences. Good luck. I hope this helped some.
  3. The range is so wide that it's nearly impossible to make a suggestion. You need to give us a little more direction as to what you do/don't like and what your price range is.
  4. Yep, tootall is right, it would appear that all of the OEM gator straps are dead end stitched like that.
  5. I was going to be the smarta$$ and ask everyone why, since this was posted in the Panerai forum, they were suggesting a bunch of non-PAMs. DSN's 104 is very good. If you're looking for a Historic (handwind) model, I would suggest the 010D. Good luck. Oh, there is no 1:1 PAM rep, at any pricepoint...
  6. Wow. The options are almost endless. Give us some help with a price range/limit, material desired, etc. A "good" leather strap source might not be a source for "good" gator straps, etc. Price is probably the easiest place to start.
  7. I would PM jaykeem and ask him what strap it is.
  8. Is a SS Rolex Sub worth it at $4k+? How about an IWC Cousteau? No *luxury* watch (or other luxury good) is going to be considered good "bang-for-your-buck" when you take into account the actual manufacturing costs vs. the retail price.
  9. Ah, I see. It sounded like you couldn't find Ruby, not that you couldn't find an 048 in her section. Just email her, she can source nearly any rep out there. For sausage dial relumes, vaccum(USA) and The Zigmeister(Canada) are where I would look first.
  10. Panerai doesn't make any women's watches. It's only a few years ago that 38-40mm was considered "average" size for mens' watches, you know. Most watches that are marketed as womens' models are 36mm or smaller, most MUCH smaller. You won't find any dealer's selling pre modded PAM048s, I don't believe. Sausage/painted dial relumes are best left to those with proven track records, IMO. It's not an easy thing to do.... Ruby has a section here, did you even look? http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showforum=159
  11. Sorry, I wasn't very clear with my first post. The PAM048 is a 40mm watch. http://www.replica-watch.info/phpBB3/viewt...f=7&t=38344 I got my wife's 048 rep from Ruby. I've always had good luck with her...
  12. Honestly, with a 6" wrist, I'd go for the PAM048. It's just like a PAM104 - Luminor Marina (seconds at 9 o'clock), auto movement (Asian 7750) with date at 3 o'clock. It's much more accurate than any PAM111 that's out there.
  13. Check out the PAM048 or PAM050 (same watch but with a bracelet instead of a strap). They are VERY accurate reps. Relume, swap the datewheel and the date cyclops and you honestly have a 99% watch. No one would really be able to see any differences, even side by side with the gen.
  14. I don't see stuck on letters, but I agree about the canon pinion. It *appears* to not be flush.
  15. My pleasure. This particular watch makes it pretty easy, since there has only been 1 version, to my knowledge. That way you can simply shop around for the dealer you want to buy from without worrying if you're getting the latest/best version.
  16. AFAIK, they are all the same. Yes, the lume sucks, so plan on getting it relumed. I did a comparison of my wife's gen H series PAM048 with the C series rep 048 here: http://www.replica-watch.info/phpBB3/viewt...f=7&t=38344 It is a VERY accurate rep. The datewheel should be replaced with one from Lello or similar, the cyclops can be upgraded but is secondary to the datewheel upgrade, IMO. Relume is a must. Other than that, it is a true "super rep" that's been around since before the term was ever used. No gen PAMs have ever had double AR, so I would advise against having that done. Plus, I'm not sure if any of the AR guys are doing it on crystals with date cyclops. Good luck, it's a fantastic rep, one that doesn't get the attention it deserves, IMO. Oh, the one I bought my wife was from Ruby and it looks just like every other 048 rep I've ever seen...
  17. Yep, but it's the best 001A out there! All in all, it's pretty good Jay. Like archibald said, it's just a question of if you get a lemon or not. My 010D was fantastic right out of the box and hasn't had a problem to date. I have had watches with issues, though. However, they've always been taken care of by DSN after it was all said and done.
  18. It's both. Having said that, the "L Swiss Made L" position and the shape of the 2 more than make up for the font being a little too big and too white. Great watch!
  19. Jay, don't forget V's Pre-V/current Historic CG project. We should be seeing pics soon on that one!
  20. Pete, your title says 201/A.
  21. There is a rep of it, but the rep lacks the PR display as well as the day/night indicator.
  22. piberf, as discussed previously, that movement is as Swiss as ANY Panerai decorated H/I/J series movement out there. When people say "Swiss" around here, they mean it was a Swiss movement that had the bridges and other decorative bits replaced with Asian made pieces. That's as good as it gets if you want a decorated movement with the newer shaped bridges.
  23. Yep, that's correct.
  24. I think the accepted definition of "Swiss" has now become the movements that started life as Swiss 6497s. You're right, the only 100% Swiss movements are the no-Swan-Neck 6497s with the square bridges, either undecorated or with the glued-on, foil "grafitti" decoration. EVERY other "Swiss" movement is a hybrid...
