  1. Dial looks fake, case looks maybe gen, crown definitely fake.

    Yuki Case

Oh, that might be how he does it. I was assuming if the dial just barely slipped through, that he would take a flat metal disc and glue it underneath the dial, so that it could press against the existing rehaut. If you find a good case, let us know! There are dozens of people looking for a good (cheap!) 5512/5513 case set.

    Yuki Case

Sly, PBdad has a case of mine from DW, and he said that he has a way to fix the rehaut issue... Maybe you want to shoot him a PM or an email?
  4. In addition, the 14060 is one of the rare models which hasn't been repped very well. Usually this means that any models of this are cobbled together from other pieces, except for the dial.
  5. I'm sure he would, if I complained, but I'm going to try having PB work on it, and see if he can make it look OK. Besides, the last order with DW I did, he threw in a bunch of parts I needed, so I don't mind keeping the case.
  6. I may have an extra for you, Nanuq. Let me check my parts drawer and get back to you. I guess I am fortunate to have undersized wrists! Where about is the link missing? I think I have links from both ends, as well as the middle...
  7. Peculiar...I got my stuff OK, and I think I ordered about the same time you did, E. BTW, I know this is the wrong thread for it, but if anybody remembers that 5513 case I ordered from him, I can confirm that it does not take gen dials, although PB said he can make it work. I assume this entails placing a flat metal disc on the bottom of the dial that would press against the rehaut in lieu of the dial itself.
  8. I had him make an extra small rehaut, and I tested with a 25mm dial. It fit, but just barely. I'll let you know what becomes of my project. I am very determined, seeing as MBW cases aren't even perfect. This one will take lots of modding, but it should turn out OK, I hope!
  9. Edit: I got the pics to show up except for the first few. :S
  10. Here is my promised review of the DW 5513 case. Lots of pics, so beware, those of you with 56k modems… Here’s a pic with everything (minus the crystal) put together. Looks OK from the outside. One minor quibble is that the edges are slightly rounded – ala Datejust – but could probably be fixed. Pics of the serial number/registered design numbers. This was pretty cool, because DW was able to engrave a serial number I had requested. I hope to make this into a PCG, so I got a serial number which would place it in the third quarter of 1964. Here is the caseback. Pretty good, overall. Needs a caseback seal, but overall seems to be better gen-like construction than the Josh version. The bezel is one major problem. Definitely NOT 1:I construction. It is the stupid paperclip bezel. No matter, as I will be replacing the entire assembly with the JMB bezel ring + the Josh bezel and insert. The insert on this bezel is remarkably bad. It seems very narrow. Here are the rehaut measurements. From my terrible measurements plus the fitting of a 25 mm dial, I believe the case I got will take my gen dial. This is the total space for a dial underneath the rehaut: and here is the rehaut opening space: Here is the outer rehaut measurement. Not very exciting, but I figured I would include it just in case. Here are the overall dimensions. I measured depth, which seemed the proper narrow depth for a 5513. I also measured the width, which seemed right. Unfortunately I don’t have any specs for a gen 5513, so I couldn’t compare them. I tried fitting a gen crown on, and it does not fit. Not really a surprise to me, but might be interesting to others. I plan on fitting a gen crown plus a Clarks tube, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Finally, the rest of the pics. They may be interesting to some people, so I figure that I’ll include them.
  11. That's true...except for when the hour hand was above the GMT hand. I wonder if the movement is swappable with the PT CHS movement? You would need to SL the hands, but when you got all through, you would have one nice watch (presumably).
  12. Is this IHS? It looked like it, but I couldn't tell. I'm pretty sure it is not CHS...
  13. @RolexAddict: How do you do that? I am curious....
  14. Praetor, count me in as another "20-something" vintage lover! I do agree, though, that the young kids buy the "new" models hand over fist, whereas we "old fogies" buy parts, and slowly assemble watches that way.
  15. @danielv2000: If the dial feet have already been cut off, you glue/tape the dial to the movement holder. I don't think you have a gen datewheel, unless you have a gen movement. Gen datewheels rotate the opposite direction from every other movement I know of... Which member did you buy it from? edit: Just saw your new post; yes, I believe 1200 is reasonable. If you are looking for a 1575, be sure to find a movement with the right dial holder on top. There is an excellent post about it somewhere, but basically you do NOT want the cone-shaped top. (IIRC)
  16. Really? How interesting... Last I heard, his and David's brand watches were doing so well that they didn't need reps anymore. Not doubting your info, mind you, just putting this out there. FWIW, I ordered a 5513 case from him, which I think I was able to get with a 25mm rehaut... When I get it in the next few days, I'll try to do a pictorial on it, so that anyone that wants a case can (maybe) get one with proper dimensions.
  17. The "Swiss" is supposed to get you a gen ETA movement. It seldom does, but at least hand sizes/dial feet positions will match if or when you upgrade to gen ETA. As far as the "best out of the box" goes, every single watch in the rep world has a tell. The best way to find the "best out of box" is to research all the tells, and then pick the one with the tells that bother you the least!
  18. It's really a shame, because DW Daytonas were almost like Super-reps (IMHO). They looked good out of the box, and modding just made them even more awesome. What is F&B?
  19. @JMB: Hmmm... Want to take a look at my SD while it is over your way? Maybe that's why the bezel felt weird to rotate.
  20. @iRolexu: I posted in your other thread but I'll post here as well: IMHO, gen movements are the ultimate. Once you achieve this (very expensive) level, you are 99.99999% there. That would be an alternative to installing an overlay. As a bonus, you wouldn't have to cut the feet off of the "gen" Ingod or NDT/Yuki dials.
  21. @JMB: That looks great! I didn't realize there was so much space around the numbers... Now I know why so many modders hate doing overlays! @iRolexu: Yes, I believe that the Ingod vintage Rolex dials are as close to gen as is available (even considering NDT). As to why they are $125, they are most certainly NOT gen dials. I don't know how he gets around ebay, because they are clearly aftermarket dials. Oh well, more for us!
  22. I don't think it should have been that thin. I think the original WR rating for the gen was 100m, so it would be as thick as a 1016 Tropic 22 crystal. Clarks should be a good bet. Be sure to measure OD and ID of the rehaut/retaining ring and make sure the Clarks fits. It may take some manual adjustment to get it to fit just right.
  23. He is a seller on ebay - his username is InGod44. If you have a gen crystal, you should have no problem. The problem with datewheels/dials stem from non-gen shapes. For example, a gen dial uses a "widescreen" date opening, while a rep dial uses a "TV" opening. If you use a gen-like datewheel with an Ingod dial and a gen crystal, you should be 99% of the way there!
