  1. Frank, The lume is pretty good. It glows brightly for an hour then dims, but 3 hours later it still has a decent glow. I understand there are lumes that glow for six to eight hours? At any rate, it is good for me hope you like yours.
  2. Thanks guys, I am pretty happy with it. The movement is not cosmetically correct, but it is a good one and it does not bother me.
  3. It took a month to get but it was worth the wait for Greg Stevens Crazy Horse w/ black stitch on Davidsen's Fiddy. Two artists.
  4. Nice words TT, I concur, Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth and Happy New Year to all,
  5. This is such a great post. Ahh, the history, you can almost smell the patina on those old watches.
  6. Thats a good story. Always fun to find a fellow watch aficionado regardless of whether they are gen or rep. All in all, most people will assume you are wearing a gen as long as you carry yourself with confidence or until the subject come up and you are inclined to volunteer the facts, or not.
  7. The Chinese business negotiation process is just that, a negotiation process. 100 watches minimum could end up at 50 or even 10 when you are beginning a relationship with a supplier or manufacturer. At the manufacturing level, it is a different ballgame than what we are used to here. Our dealers purchase from these manufacturers and have done a great deal of that footwork involved in obtaining product. Their markup is to be expected, and the prices that our dealers offer are certainly not out of line at all. What is really interesting though is the statement you relate that they are no longer going to produce certain movements that are still being widely offered. Could this be the end of those mentioned movements in the rep world as we know it? That remains to be seen and it will be up to our dealers to give us the straight story.
  8. Actually, yes, when I shake the watch I can hear a rather heavy clinking sound. Thats a good diagnosis slay. When Davidsen repairs it that may very well be what he finds, so it will be interesting to find out for certain.
  9. Usually I carry a a Browning Automatic rifle into high crime areas so anyone approaching me about my watch is full of holes.
  10. Reg, Are you the one who has been sending me all those emails about how to get more women with a bigger wrist? Dammit my wrist is big enough, if I take any of your pills then I'm gonna have to start ordering custom watch straps, and my wife is really going to tear me a new a-hole!
  11. The crown is too thin and spaced too far from the bezel, otherwise it is okey dokey
  12. It is a work of art and a very cool one at that. Like he said, he chose the Panerai to do this with because of it's classic function and design. Panerai is timeless.
  13. My favorite Panerai rep has not been easy to switch for another.
  14. Development......I started to wind the crown backwards, as it was fully wound and stopped, and low and behold the fiddy began ticking again This is a most pleasant shift of events. Does anyone have a clue why this happened? Should I be prepared for it again? BTW here is a pic of the fiddy with a Greg strap.
  15. The crackdown on piracy most likely will target movies, and CD's which generate the most revenue and attention. It would be my guess that the watch market as it stands will not be affected other than the occasional walk through of the Guanzou markets by the anti pirate police. The matter of the Olympics coming up will be a time of much more aggressive action so the Chinese Govt. can save face while in the International spotlight. This will be a time for them to also take a more palatable approach to human rights, which next to piracy of goods, are the two biggest complaints about China.
  16. 8" is my wrist which still makes a fiddy look like a big watch.
  17. Well, I have to join the club of badly made 6497's . My new Fiddy died and I posted about it but had not read this suberb post by The Zigmeister yet. It explains much and I hope that David will fix it. Before going through the international re-shipment process though, I will get an opinion from the watchsmith here and report back his opinion. It seems a shame that the good money spent on a seemingly quality timepiece is marred by this defect. Whatever the outcome, I do love the watch and will see it through.
  18. TB, The Zigmeisters post on the subject is excellent indeed and may very well be the cause of the problem. I do think though that for the expense of 360.00 that the dealer should take it back and fix it after the watch failed within only 30 days. I feel confident it will be worked out.
  19. Just got it a month ago, and it is his latest "most updated" version. It just stopped ticking and it is a mystery. I am very careful with it, and it was not wound too tightly or anything. I emailed the dealer, Davidsen, and he insisted I send it back to him for repair/replacement which is all anyone could hope to ask for in this situation. Update.....Hours later, I wound it backwards and it began ticking again, stopped again and the same trick worked once more. Will send it back though as this seems out of the ordinairy. It is not a 6497-1 movment either.
  20. This morning a Pam 172 arrived, and on went the blue sharkskin strap from TC
  21. Thats right, wind it even for 3 to 4 minutes and it should be fine.
  22. Since last July, I have purchased 9 reps and had not really paid any attention at all to Panerai, and now I own 6 of them. On a whim I saw this Parmigiani watch on Josh's site and really like it. The watch goes well with evening dress or a suit. Here's the link http://perfect-clones.com/pg10002-forma-he...ite-p-1542.html
