  1. A this guys the scammer, look at what he posted in the shoutbox "Authentication Paperwork For All Brands Of Watch, Complete With Genuine Insurance Appraisal Certificate, Discreet Service. In Box Me To Find Out More! Turn Your £200 Rolex Into A £7000 Rolex In 15 Minutes!" WHAT!! find me a 300 dollar Rolex, I'll buy a boatload of them. Only Rolex watches in that price range are here, and they are reps. So here we go this guy is going to sell you and authentication certificate on fancy paper with lots of stamps, scrolls etc,etc so some noob can put his 125.00 USD rep on Ebay and try to pass it off as a genuine Rolex. Maybe the mods need to have a look at this guy, he's either a complete scammer, or he's on here on a spy mission!! Either way, not good.
  2. First thing, you are going to have to run them through a edger/joiner to true up the sides, that's so they will glue up uniformly, then you are going to have to have a large area where you can lay them flat, apply the glue and then clamp them until the glue sets up. You will probably have to put a 2X4 across them top and bottom on each end and in the middle. These will have to be clamped to keep the boards from trying to buckle up when you clamp them. If you aren't careful and keep them clamped to keep everything flat, you will end up with a big piece of wood that is bowed from the clamps pulling on it. Another thing, even though this is a pretty good idea, unless you have a very strong frame to screw the table top down on, with several cross pieces so that you can screw it down across it's entire width about every 18-24" , you are going to run the risk of warping. Wood is a natural material, so it wants to expand and contract depending on the humidity in the environment it's in. That's why I like the idea of trailer flooring, or 2X4's glued side to side, one heavy mother, but when it's all glued up and done, it's very, very stable.
  3. I built a work bench years ago, and what I did was use 2X4,s that we glued side to side to make a 4" deep block and you can make it as long as you need. another alternative that we used in our kitchen initially was laminated wood that is used for trailer flooring, I bought mine from a millwork company that makes trailer flooring from scrap oak flooring. they also have a big plant next door that makes tongue and groove oak flooring, and the ends, off color wood, etc, were used for the trailer flooring. It comes as long as you want I believe 18"wide, but with a shiplap on one side to fasten two together. It's heavy, stable as heck, and makes a beautiful work surface. This is a link, let's you see what it looks like. This is tropical hardwood, we used Oak http://www.trailerdecking.com/Products.aspx?FilterstoAdd=525
  4. I wouldn't do anything except take it back and exchange it for another one. If their watchmaker opens it and there appears to be any damage caused by "wacking it' on your palm or anything else out the ordinary, they are going to claim that it was damaged by the customer faster than greased lightning. It's covered under warranty, an if I were him, I would insist on a new replacement, not have them send this one back to a Service center and he has no watch for 3-4 months. Only a couple of days old, they should honor and exchange.
  5. is this the one? RLST00032 16613 Blue SS/FG TT Sub Swiss 2824/3135 [RLST00032] $348.00 If this is it, the surriunds are too tthick, the mid link sides aren't plated, and this one looks like a blue insert and black dial?
  6. The gold plated bezel on the DW Gold 6263 has the bad DW insert, the WatchNY insert is much better, but no bezel available in GP. Is it possible to remove the plastic insert from one of these and replace it in the DW GP'ed Bezel? Anyone have any suggestions, other sources of GP bezels with a good insert, other than a "second mortgage on the house" genuine? Maybe someone needs to figure out how to GB the WatchNY bezels!
  7. Well, they may need a little "massaging", but there is meat there to work with. I saw one over on repgeek yesterday and everyone was oohing and aahing over it, and it was one of those stubby short CG cases, and they looked awful. Don't post much over there, so I didn't comment, but it wasn't much to look at!!!
  8. He has been answering my emails very quickly the past few days. Without PayPal, it's a no go for me, and I told him that. We'll see
  9. How about a big old piece of perfect Texas Brisket! Save the burnt ends for me!!!
  10. Like Joe Lewis, I sear with the grill open, but always cook with it closed. In fact I'm about to put a Baby back rib rack on the grill in a few minutes. Just read the latest Texas Monthly Magazine, 50 best BBQ joints in Texas and only two or thee cook with and open pit, everyone else uses a big ole smoker/grill and we know the best BBQ in the world comes from those Texas BBQ joints!!!
  11. Obviously some hack writer who spent and hour on Canal street and then went back and wrote his article. I would bet you a hundred dollars if you put five really good reps and five comparable gens on a table, he couldn't' pick the reps from the gens!!
  12. Sounds to me like from a previous post Freddy is going to look into this when he gets all the details from the buyer. I agree 100%, DW isn't going to be on any sort of firm footing on the forum until he clears up these past problems. Thus far we have only heard one side of the story, I believe freddy will get both sides.
  13. This is a real fobar, since there are so many conflicting statements and accusations. No one can say for sure where the watch got taken, but I would expect that if it were taken by UK customs, they would have contacted the recipient or at the least left a note inside the box stating that they found the contents to be contraband and they were seized and destroyed. I would suspect that somewhere along the line the shipping company or someone who had contact with the package slipped it open and removed the watch. That typed up invoice looks unusual, most folks don't have the capacity to generate a form like that with typed or printed information like that invoice shown. Looks more like and invoice generated by the shipping company. I have a FedEx account, and I have preprinted shipping invoices, but I still have to fill in the information recipients name, address, contents, etc. manually. So that's strange. Another thing, and this is certainly in retrospect as the horse here has long since left the barn, but in the USA, the customs form instructions are pretty clear. They require that you describe the contents specifically, not something as broad as "Gift". If you are sending your family or friends overseas clothing, they want to see 4 t-shirts, 3 dresses, 4 pants for child, not children's clothing. I have shipped a lot of watches, both domestic and overseas, I always write something like horologic device, and if it's a rep going overseas, I usually write something like broken timepiece for parts, or broken timepiece for repair and return to sender. Never watch. If you are specific, customs may not open the package if it's a low valued broken parts watch, conversely, "Gift" and a watch showing up on X-ray will piqué their interest. Of course they might have opened the box when it passed thru the scanner, showed Tag Huver watch, and nothing was in the package, just to see if anything was concealed inside. I agree with most here, a 50/50 split, both of you learn from your mistakes, and move on.
  14. Tomas, I hope you are correct ,as that would be fine, I would probably buy a Daytona from him if I have PayPal to back things up. Funny in neither of his emails did he mention that he was in the process of setting up a new PayPal account. It would seem like he would have said, "if you can hold out for a few days, I believe PayPal will be straightened out ".
  15. Another "no date" day for me!! taken while parked, so no other drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists or small animals were endangered by this stunt
  16. I have to admit DW has been very quick to respond to emails, of course he wants to sell a watch! I got an email from him this morning saying he was sorry but he сould not use his PayPal and could only accept WU, Too bad, because he could sell lots of watches and parts if he would only do right. Another interesting point, he has nothing in his EBay store USA, but he has several items listed on EBay Australia, and he can accept PayPal there, so why not for off EBay sales?
  17. Not sure what the status is, but I think it's probably not going to happen. I certainly wish it would, but there hasn't been and update in months. back last year, higho and I exchanged several PM's and at that point he was shooting for September (2012) Nothing happened, he had problems with the folk's that were making the cases, and I don't think those problems have been resolved. It seems like this thread gets resurrected periodically, but nothing new.

  19. there are any number of combinations, and any one of them are "right" for you. Like freddy says, if you have a not so good rep on a odd ball bracelet, it might pique the interest of folks in the know!! My father in law wore out a genuine bracelet on his gen TT Datejust, being the tightwad that he was, he went to the local drug store and searched through the bracelet rack till he found one that "Sort of" fit. He wore those bracelets on his DJ until he died. Gen watch or a really good rep, I wouldn't worry.
  20. Dave, that's true, but you were using PayPal, were you not. I really don't like WU even when sending money to guys I trust. If there is a problem, he can ultimately tell you to shove it and walk away, with PayPal, at least you do have some recourse, even more if you are paying with a credit card through PayPal. I know this is far fetched, but there was and incident on a gen forum quite a few years ago, before Paypal. Guy sold a watch to another member, before he could pack it and ship it out, he was either in a bad accident, or had a stroke, can't remember which, but long story short, 6-8 months later, the buyer had never gotten his watch. the guys wife knew nothing about his watches, trades, sales, etc. She wouldn't send it, claimed she didn't have any idea that her husband was selling this watch, which may or may not have been true, but I don't think the buyer ever got his watch! So, after getting burned by WM9 to the tune of 375.00 USD, and hearing all the chatter going on about deals gone bad, I'm reluctant to use WU. IF DW were to come on this forum and answer the questions about these deals, and square up with everyone, then I believe he would generate a lot of business here.Until that happens, I'll take a chance if I can use PayPal, but that's the only way.
  21. Absolutely correct. I just emailed him and told him that although I would really like the watch, I just wasn't comfortable with using WU. I told him that if he could accept PayPal, I would do the deal today, but otherwise, I wasn't interested. Really too bad as the guy obviously has access to some really nice watches and parts, but when you're in business, you got to run it like a business. This rep community, is pretty darn small even though you have thousands of folks on every forum, really the nucleus is small, so when you screw over folks who are active and post regularly, the word is going to get out real fast.
  22. If you're building a nice 1680 or 1665, and these will solve the problem of the numbers being either right or left justified, it's worth the price. To me that is the biggest problem with the 1680 builds, it's very hard to get the DW to look right. You would need to use an ETA dial to make these work, as the gen dials and the aftermarket dials like Ming, phong, yuki are made for gen movements and the date window is more to the center of the dial. 2846, ETA dial like and MBW, and this DW would look great!
