  1. Freddy, you may be correct, but if that is the case (Small lot of prototypes or a marketing test), how do you account for those watches that show up with a PanAm "Globe" and series numbers , 28/52, etc. on the caseback?
  2. So basically, the only solution is to use a V23, unless you have several of the Mystery movements around for parts. Another question, can the A7750 be transplanted into that case. If it can, that's another alternative and you would have all hands operating, not a faux hour counter at 6.
  3. Do you think that the watch appearing in Mondani's book will legitimize the White dial 6542 to any greater degree? While there are those of us who really believe (or want to believe!) That the albino 6542 was actually produced, and sold to PanAm for whatever reason PanAm wanted the watches, there remains a large segment of the Vintage Rolex fraternity that are very skeptical about the existence of legitimate Albino 65642's. I have said before, and will say it again here, the issue will never be settled until one of these three criteria are met.1) An albino 6542 with an impeccable and traceable provenance, such as the widow or child of a PanAm executive or pilot who has records, photos etc., tying the watch to the wearer. 2) Someone digs through all the PanAM records at the University of Florida Library, and comes up with actual letters and or invoices from Rolex to PanAm showing the actual ordering of the albino 6542's, or 3) Rolex breaks it's code of silence and acknowledges that the albino 6542 was indeed built and the watches were all sold to PanAm during a specific time period. Then and only then will the issue be settled.
  4. That stinky watch reminded me of a watch I owned several years back, a gen Breitling Chronomat with a leather strap. The deployant buckle straps were expensive so I wore the heck out of them. During the summer, that strap got dirty, sweaty and it stunk like a teenagers tennis shoes!!! Not much you can do with a nasty stinking leather strap except throw it away. And , no it never reminded me of any of my early girlfriends, some of them got pretty sweaty, but they never smelled like that!!!
  5. Ken, You are so right! I started off probably more than ten years ago, back on the old TRC. We had a fair number of dealers back then, but there were no QC photos, and not a heck of a lot of correspondence from the dealers. You wanted something, you usually had to email the dealer, ask him if he had a certain watch in stock, if yes, send your money, often times it was WU or nothing, although a few did eventually start taking Paypal. When you got your watch, it was pretty much yours. A few dealers would give you a discount on your next watch, or offer to pay 25 bucks in the form of a refund if your watch was DOA or had problems. In all those early years, I sent one watch back, and that was later in the game when Eurotimez was around. Usually, it was YOD (Yours on Delivery!!!) No returns, no whining, and if you kicked up too much of a fuss, the dealers would suddenly start ignoring your emails.Another thing, We had several dealers back then who had probably the best Rolex watches and maybe a few others, who wouldn't even return your first email unless you were recommended by someone else who was a trusted buyer. The old guys will remember Maria, and George, they could get MBW's, but unless you were in the inner circle, you couldn't buy from them, as they only sold to those they knew. And then there was TTK, another character on the early forums. If he didn't like you, he wouldn't sell you the time of day!! If you posted silly stuff or went against him, you could forget ever getting one of his watches. So to all you newer guys, the good old days are now!!
  6. Beautiful job!! Really impressed with the way you worked the CG's.
  7. Don't want to hijack the OP's thread, but I have a 1570 in mine. I believe that there are some problems using certain of the 1570's not sure what the problem is, but mine was stated to fit a 1680 or1665, so mine went in without a hitch. Why don't you post a new thread asking about transplanting a 1570/1575 into a rep case, which movement do you need, etc. Edit: Sorry, I didn't notice that this is your thread. possibly others will chime in and give you better info about which ones will fit and which ones need a lot of modding. My case is and older MBW, and the gen movement slips in without any problems. Another thing you will need to do is find a dial that is made for a gen movement. The Rolex dials have the date window in a little different location than the dials made for ETA's, and you surely want to be able to use a gen silver open 6,9 DW.
  8. Beautiful build, now all you need to do is slip in a slow beat 2846 movement in and you are all set. My 1665 say hello.
  9. Happy Father's Day to all you Dads. Kids taking me out to lunch today, maybe this one for a change
  10. Thanks very, very much for your hard work. I'm glad that we are back up and running.
  11. I just clicked on the link you provided, and it popped right up.
  12. I'm on hold right now, DW is not taking Paypal still, also he is out of dials, no gold or black dials for the gold 6263. At some point In time, he will probably get more in, but in the meantime, I bought a 6265 case set from another forum member and a ETA tricompax to go in it, so that one takes precedence now. I'm probably going to change the metal bezel on the 6265 to a watchNY plastic bezel insert and make it into a 6263.
  13. I was going to comment about this, but I think all the answers have been given in the previous posts . All I will say is WHY???
  14. I'm not sure about this, and I'm sure it varies from state to state, city to city, but I believe that there is a time period for someone to claim a lost or stolen item. Sort of like when folks find money that isn't claimed, after a time the money goes to the finder.
  15. He needs to take it to a watchmaker who has a Rolex case opener, unless he or you have one. Probably needs to be careful, if it was a hot item, and the thief threw it away because he was afraid to sell it, it may well be in the local police records. You can tell in and instant when you open the back if it's genuine. If it's running and everything is OK, he's got about a 4K watch. As above though, the only problem if it 's lost or stolen (Obviously one or the other!!!!) The owner may very well have reported it to his insurance company and the police if it was stolen. If you found it and later took it in to an AD for work, and it was on their "hot list", at the very least you would be out your watch. Sort of puts the new owner in a dilemma, because it's not readily salable, so hopefully he likes Rolex GMT's!!
  16. I'm wearing my gen 16750 right now, and to me they look identical. Crown guards and crown look good. Unless this is and aftermarket case that is gen identical. I have yet to see a rep that got the crown/ crown guards right. They all use a 6mm crown, the gen is 5.3mm
  17. Looking at the photos, the movement has not been converted to manual wind, still has rotor and I'm sure the Auto wind mechanism. At the least this would need to be removed to make it a true manual wind. Another fault, the case back is too thick, to accommodate the extra height of the rotor. Stay away!!
  18. Aftermarket bezels should fit, generalizations about rep parts is pretty risky, because some will fit easily, some will fit with a little modding, others are impossible to fit. Remember these aren't gen watches where every one coming from the manufacture' will be identical.
  19. Make sure that you leave feedback for him, as this post will slip into oblivion in a matter of days or weeks. If he has feedback listed it's easy for folks to see.
