  1. Man!! the King of Big Crowns has hit another one out of the park!!
  2. Possibly he was concerned about the warranty Quite a lot of the watches that were being sold on the internet and in some of the big box stores were "grey market" with no authorized warranty. While that may not seem important, I have heard of very expensive watches that had big problems early on, and with no warranty, they can be pretty expensive to repair. I had a Chronoswiss Tora, great watch, but for some reason the GMT function refused to set after about six months. I had to send it back to Chronoswiss, and it was fixed under warranty, but had I not had a warranty, I expect it would have been several hundred dollars for repairs. If in the case of the Omega buyer, it did come with a good warranty, then he should be classified under the heading," A fool and his money are soon parted"!!
  3. Mike stays logged in 24/7!! I think he sleeps at his bench with a big flat screen monitor in front!!
  4. Contrary to what the previous owner (Seller) told you, there hasn't been anything done to this watch. It's a great watch nonetheless, and with a few mods it would be outstanding. Replace the crystal if possible, also internally unless it hasn't been done, the minute totalizer is 30 minutes with this movement, it needs to be converted to a 45 minute totalizer.
  5. man, those dials are really, really nice. One of these days, I'm going to try to get him to make me a Tudor 7924 dial.
  6. I'm about to the point where I am going to eliminate those who don't have the common courtesy of returning an Email from my list of folks that I want to work on my watches. If they are too busy to return one simple Email, then they are probably too busy to work on my stuff!
  7. Congratulations for 10 years of marriage. AFA the sub, not sure where you can find one, look at the TD sites here and possibly they have one. The Submariner only came with a Oyster Fliplock bracelet, some folks wear theirs on NATO straps, but that isn't standard. What model Submariner are you looking for, the vintage 1680, or the later 16610? Also Rolex made several other models for Tiffany & Co, the Lady perpetual Date as well as almost all of the Rolex Sports models.
  8. I never quite understood a poll to ask "which watch should I buy"? The only one that can really answer that question is you. Of the ones you have listed, which one do YOU really like? If you live in a place where there are AD's go in and look at the genuine article. Which one looks the best on you, which feels the most comfortable, and finally which one are you happy with? Personally, I don't particularly care about any of your choices, primarily because I prefer vintage watches, mainly Rolex. What I like is really not important, because you are the one who will need to be happy with your purchase. Of course as someone above posted, buy all of them with the idea that you wear each of them for a week, and then select the one you like the best.
  9. I really don't think any good ones exist. I bought a phong expansion model, for my 6542.End links are wrong, bracelet is incredibly stiff, which I know can be corrected by a good oil soak, It was 300 USD and I wouldn't think that it is worth that. I decided to change out my 7206 for an old Jubilee which feels a lot better and looks pretty good on the watch, even though it's not exactly period correct.
  10. Second that suggestion, do your research, lots of reviews I'm sure. Pick the one with the least flaws that you can live with , or one that can be modded to reduce the flaws. We have lots of reputable dealers here, look in the dealer section, some have websites others you need to email for info, but for the time being, until you are no longer a noob, stick to these dealers.
  11. He's got those guys hired as his "media consultants"!!! Seriously, he has worked on several of my watches, and I have nothing but good things to say about his work. He's got two of my watches with him right now, and I'm sure both will be returned to me in top notch condition. It certainly is nice to have someone with the potential to replace Ziggy, now that he has announced his retirement from rep watch repairs. Also nice to be able to put a watch in a Priority mail box and it's in Mike' hands in two days with no customs worries and slow delivery times, cheaper too!!!
  12. I would just about bet the farm that something here is stolen, either the photos are lifted from somewhere else, or probably both of those watches are hot. We have no concept of the depth and breadth of the criminality that is pervasive throughout the world.Tthieves are stealing whole containers of goods from shipping terminals and airports. Jewelry stores broken into, you name it, it's taking place. The thieves have to have a place to sell these stolen goods, what better place than EBay. Suppose a watch(s) are stolen in the UK, they make their way to Germany, Canada, the USA, anywhere far from the crime scene, sold on Ebay and the money is now clean. Maybe that isn't the case here, but we all know that EBay, Craigslist, etc. are great ways for thieves to get rid of their goods. If that isn't the case, the buyer probably won't get the watch pictured, but a Canal street quality rep. What is interesting in going through all the EBay listings for the Yachtmaster II, the next closest price was 28.5K and most all were in the 30K+ range for the solid gold models, so right off this should ring a bunch of alarm bells for prospective buyers. All the seller has to do is scroll through the listings to see that his price is way out of range, unless his isn't what it's described as. The only way I would even entertain a purchase like this would be a face to face at a Rolex AD, which I would seriously doubt the seller would agree to.
  13. Just got this back today.
  14. Postman delivered a package today, sort of surprised me, because I thought it would be after Memorial Day getting here. When I opened the package, my first thoughts were my man must have put a genuine TT in the box by mistake!!! From all the comments, the old watch suffered from many ills, almost and ICU case, but with prospects for recovery with the right medicine. Mainly the dial as you can see from the photos above suffered from the "purples" also the yellow gold? surrounds were terrible. not much to like on the dial, the pearl was pretty bad, and the insert was purplish as well. So how do you cure these ills, you can't use fake medicine, you got to use the real stuff, so that's what we did. insert replaced with a genuine, Dial replaced with a genuine, Crown/tube replaced with genuine. Unfortunately, this watch will not accept a genuine crystal, which is really too bad, as that would have been a nice replacement. Another little fix was gold plating the sides of the mid links part of the endlinks. Someone who looked at the watch while it was at the modders, commented that I ought to try to find a better case, i.e. one that would accept genuine parts like the crystal, bezel, etc. Here are my feeling about that. It's a great idea, but First off, I really like the older watches with lugholes and I doubt that it would be easy to find an early 16610/16613 rep case w/ lugholes. Second, you got to stop somewhere!! A new case would mean that A new crystal would be needed, and then, maybe slip in a 3135 movement and then new hands would be needed, and of course the old bezel wouldn't fit, so there you go, next thing, instead of having a watch with 1200.00 USD (Ballpark guess?) I've got a watch that cost 3K. So for the foreseeable future, this one is done. Here are a few photos of the "New" 16613
  15. I went back and looked through all my old emails in my "watch" folder. I did get an MBW LV from luckyyy around this time, so this could very well be one of the two, noobmariner is a possibility for the other one. these are both long gone and I was just a little curious as to whether or not anyone on the forum had one of these and could identify what they were.
  16. I bought both of these from other members, so I'm not sure where they came from originally.
  17. There are so many ways that your information can get stolen, it's positively terrifying. I wouldn't think that if someone in josh's operation had your info, they would wait months to use the cards. I would bet that somewhere else there is a common thread, or it could be a coincidence that both of you got "cloned" at close the same time. Gas stations, kiosks in a mall, restaurants, everywhere you swipe your card are potentially corrupted and can get all of your info off your card. I have had several cards compromised in the past few years, including two AmEx cards and a Capital One Visa Card. In two of them, the fraud departments noticed charges that were outside my usual spending pattern, and called me for verification, the third involved a series of very small charges which the I noticed and called the credit card company. The fraud folks told me that sometimes the thieves will go on a "fishing " expedition, a few small charges to see if it's a good card, then they make a bunch of big charges and are gone. The best protection is to be very diligent in checking your statement. Set it up online so you can check it often and not wait on a paper bill. Also the credit card companies will often work with you to tighten the restrictions on the cards, Sometimes that is a PITA, but it's better to have every sales clerk ask for a photo ID than have a bunch of stuff charged to your card. On my AmEx cards, I have it set up that no charges are allowed unless the shipping is to my home address, unless I specifically call and tell them I need to have something shipped somewhere else. they did that after I got hit for about 6k in merchandise that was being shipped to an address several states away. I didn't have to pay a cent, but the credit card companies don't like to have to go to their customers and tell them they are clawing back money from fraudulent charges.
  18. He did a dial several years ago, his communication was not the best. On one of the gen forums there was a discussion about this problem, and several folks said he takes time off, but he doesn't post it on his website, just sort of disappears for a while!! Kind of reminds you of some of our dealers, doesn't it?
  19. Hi Guys, I was going through some old photos on my computer today, and came across these LV photos. obviously I owned these two at one time, They must not have made much of and impression on me because honestly I really can't remember either one! I vaguely seem to remember that one of these was a noobmariner, but I'm not sure, and I don't know which one it is, if it really is. So here's the deal, can anyone identify these two 16610's. One hint is the photos were taken in March of 2006, so they are at least 7 years old. Photos
  20. Wear the heck out of this one, and along the way start to source a few parts here and there for your next build. 1680, 6538, Tudor 9411, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination, your budget and your wife/GF's control of the pursestrings
  21. Guys, I believe that the "Car boot sale" is a bunch of hokum, right up there with Liz Taylor had an alien baby and Adolph Hitler is alive and well in Hoboken NJ!!! Here is a link to a thread on WUS that was posted last week with some good photos of the "Geiger Counter" watch. I read the entire thread, and there was never any mention of a sale like that. It was in fact gotten from Pinewood Studios, where it had probably languished for many years in the prop department. The guy who posted this thread has been a long time WUS member and I would think pretty reliable. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f325/original-screen-used-thunderball-geigher-counter-watch-found-862707.html
  22. Mike, watch your mail he's sending it to you for it's annual service!!
