Pretty difficult to get wristies every day with the correct date showing, unless of course the watch doesn't have a date .

Interesting, I bought a pre Daytona Dial from him a couple of months ago, he shipped it as promised, took forever to get here, but that's not his fault, none of us can control shipping times. A few days ago, I emailed him about a gold plated Daytona 6263, he responded quickly said he had one of each, gold dial ad black dial versions. I emailed him back said I was interested and what was the price. He emailed me back and said the price was 490.00 USD, but he was having problems with PayPal and could I use WU. My warning buzzers went off immediately, with al the problems folks have had with him here in the past, I'm very reluctant to send over 500 USD to him with no recourse should he decide that it was a gift from me to him!! I really want a Gold Plated Daytona, but I don't think I want to take the risk of being scammed.

Great story, incredible talent.

I am now blocking and scrambling all messages to Mike I've got a bunch of projects going, and he doesn't have time to fool around with you guys. I can send you the name address and email of a great watch modder in the Amazon (the jungle, not the megalith sells everything store!!) Just kidding guys, Mike does great work, I'm pretty picky, and everything he's done for me has been better than expected. Seriously, he has three of my treasured frankens and one gen right now. Hopefully his living room won't look like redbigjoe's way back when !! He had watches in their packages stacked to the ceiling in his living room, some had been there for six months and weren't opened. after a while, this is what happened to joe. hey Scotty, his PM was working fine today, we exchanged several PM's about crystals. try it again, I'm sure it's working.

I think the camera in the IPhone is underrated. the 5 has a pretty decent camera, better than a lot of point and shoots. The biggest problem I have with mine is holding it steady. It's very awkward to hold, and it's light so I have some shaky photos at times. great thing about digital, you erase the bad ones and try again.

Bought a tag heuer replica from fellow member customs problem ?

Airport security has x-ray, bomb sniffing devices, why would they open a package to look at a watch? First off IF it was an explosive device what more could they tell with it in their hand than looking at it with their scanners? maybe see that it's running, but that's about all. -
I would feel a lot more comfortable with that case if there were some cleared photos, especially of the inside of the case back, and the numbers.1959 numbers are way past the numbers he's claiming (those numbers are from around 1956) I don't think there were any 5508's around in 56, unless it was a prototype which I doubt. If this case was consistent, and all the numbers matched and were from the same time period, I believe the case would be a whole lot more than 1750.00 USD right now. Of course with a few hours to go, it might skyrocket!! If you're building a franken from all gen parts, or a mix of gen and aftermarket parts, this case might be the deal , if it stays where it is, but if you were trying to replace a period correct case, or building a watch with matching time period parts, it probably has too many inconsistencies.

Mike, It wasn't my intention to indict anyone who posted both pro Z or against. I was just trying to make a point that the mods here do have a pretty thankless job at times. I'm sure none of the mods wanted to ban Z, but obviously from what came out after the air was cleared, he had reached the point where they felt the only recourse was a ban. Not only should folks show constraint and good judgment on gen forums Stuffy that they may be, but here to as well. I don't know Z, never had any dealings with him, so I'm completely neutral AFA passing judgment. I will say however just as I said before in my previous post, I don't think that an open forum that anyone with access to the internet can access, is the place for the sort of language that Z posted in every post. I'm no prude, I can curse with the best of anyone, in several languages, learned most of it from the guys who worked on our farm when I was just a kid. I realize however that there is a time and place for that, and I don't think this forum is the place. Having said that, I doubt that the language was what got Z in trouble. I'm sure over time all of this will be resolved and then soon forgotten. If however he actually does post his "manifesto" on other forums, he will not be soon forgotten, and not in a good way. I hope that he finds a place where he is comfortable and I wish him well in that endeavor. Just looked at the folks reading this thread, looked like several "Guests", so obviously this is drawing some attention outside our members!!

Tried to report it, Got a message "we're making some updates, be back soon" It's definitely listed on the page with a bunch of other Rolex watches and parts that were reported as fakes.
-
Amazing that folks would even bid on something like this . That has got to be the worst redial I have seen in a long time!! I believe that the only thing gen on this watch is the movement.

I wasn't going to post anything else on this thread, but I was a little taken aback by some folks questioning the mods for what they did, also why weren't the general membership told why Z was banned. First off the mods here are sort of like the guys who referee PeeWee football and umpire T ball games, they are doing what they do for free, out of their love for the forum and as a service to members here. They don't get paid like and NFL referee or and Major league umpire. like the umpires, they have to listen to folks going off on the forum, other members and the mods themselves. Also like the unpaid guys who referee or umpire your kids games, there is a certain tolerance level for everything and everyone. If there is a fan sitting in the stands screaming at the top of their voice, disturbing others, the ump is going to walk over first to the coach and ask him to quit his fan, if this doesn't work, the ump goes over and gives the person a warning, The next time he has to call time out, he's gong to have the fan removed. Just like with Z, he got warned multiple times for behavior and decorum that was not within the guidelines set up by the forums founders. Read the rules, they are right there in black and white. He obviously didn't read the rules, or chose to ignore them. Result he is banned. Personally, I thought he was a colorful character, but honestly, I was off put quite a few times by his gratuitous cursing and rants. I didn't join the forum to read posts where every other word was a curse word interspersed with threats. I can assure you that his behavior was tolerated here, a whole lot longer than it would have been on some of the gen forums I frequent, and probably most of the rep forums as well.

Some say revenge is sweet, but in most cases in the end it's not. What generally happens is the seeker of revenge finds himself alienated and marginalized by both sides. Certainly if he goes through with this threat, he will be persona non grata on every rep board. No dealer is going to trust him as they may find themselves the victim of his next vendetta.. And that brings us to the threats, who is he really going to hurt? If he publishes the names and addresses of the modders here on RWG, what do you think that the consequences of that disclosure will be? Will we cower in fear and lock our watches away, afraid to send them to the modders lest they be confiscated? I hardly think so, I sure as Hell won't. Do you think the police will come knocking on their door? Will the Rolex lawyers mount a direct attack on them? hardly possible, they are fixing watches, not selling them, so who is really going to be hurt by this, I'll tell you when the dust settles, it will be him. Probably a lot of chatter for a very short time, and then everything will die down, and forgotten, but long after the whole thing is forgotten, he will still be ostracized by all watch forums. I'm sure there are a few on the genuine watch forums that will giggle, turn summersaults and dance gleefully around the fire, but for the most part, the real guys will look at him just as those here look at him, an angry, spitefully man who is out to settle a score. I seriously doubt that most will pay him scant attention. Their reaction will predictably be, this man is selling out his friends, if he does that to them, will we be next? If he expects a hero's welcome on the genuine forums, I'm afraid he is in for real disappointment. It would be best for all involved if he would cool down, take a step back and look at the long term consequences, not just for the RWG folks, but to him. Unfortunately, folks that are this angry and bitter don't see things rationally, so I suppose it will play out to the end. Let the chips fall where they may!!

Bought a tag heuer replica from fellow member customs problem ?

First off, you are way too early in the process to be making any speculations about the delivery. It only got into the sort facility at 12:17 PM and was forwarded to LHR UK at 7:39 PM today, That was what 3 hours ago? I don't see anywhere that you were asked to pay any duty on this watch, at least not yet. You need to let the process work through further before you make any speculations as to the outcome. I agree that the seller should never ever list the name of a genuine watch on the customs declaration form. However that is "water under the bridge" at this point. If it gets to the point where you get and official notification from Customs that you need to pay the duty, then you can make the decision as to whether you want to pay up, or refuse the package. You can always claim that it was not something ordered by you, and it must be the wrong address. AFA the seller, if he told you up front what most of the private sellers post in their for sale, "I am not responsible for loss, damage, customs seizure, or taxes and or duty imposed by your government" then he is pretty much not responsible. Since he made a rather childish mistake by listing the name of the watch, I feel that he bears some responsibility, how much is up to you guys to sort out. This "sorting out" doesn't need to be done now, you need to see what is going to happen first. -
Please explain to me why a pepsi insert is worth $1300?
panerai153 replied to grew's topic in The Rolex Area
I suspect that those parts which were "hoarded" are many of the ones that we are seeing on The VRF marketplace, EBay and other sales venues. Rolex is trying very hard to dry up the supply of parts floating around. What makes me angry is their arrogance. They refuse to work on most vintage Rolex watches, but they want to control the parts so no one else can work on them either. All they are interested in is selling new watches -
I totally agree. EBay is the Wild, Wild west of sales venues. It is filled with scammers, con artists and every type of "Fast buck" artist known to mankind!! All of you guys here see how good you can make a franken. Good aftermarket case, gen dial, gen movement, etc. Maybe some cooked up paperwork, box and a couple of hang tags, and you got something that is going to fool about 99% of the folks that frequent EBay. It's tough enough with high resolution photos from every angle, inside and out. Blurry out of focus, poorly shot photos, forgetaboutit

panerai153 replied to grew's topic in The Rolex Area
Here is my 16750. This is a naturally faded insert, as Freddy said, lots and lots of years of wear gives you natural aging, which by the way the guys on VRF are after. I try to go over to the VRF and VRM every few days, just to see what's for sale, as well as what everyone is talking about. I agree, asking 1300 for a faded Fat font GMT insert is pushing the envelope quite a bit. A decent 6542 bakelite maybe? Vintage Rolex parts have gone out of sight!! Problem is, Rolex isn't making any more. Even to get a new insert, in most cases you have to take a genuine watch to a RSC or a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account, so as time goes on, the vintage parts are getting scarcer and scarcer. At some point in time, who knows when, it will cost so much to replace parts in your old 1680 or 1665 that folks will be forced to use aftermarket parts, even though to the purist that is heresy, but it's going to either be that or toss the old watch in the sock drawer and forget about it. -
Nice watch, too bad about the crappy lume. I would have it relumed with the correct lume. I believe the white, glows blue is BGW9. It has a good blue color, but the color in light is white.

WOW!! I like the pump pusher model even better! I'm a sucker for the old Daytonas.
-
that's a beautiful watch, and if you can get everything together, it's going to be one great build. Keep us posted on your progress.

I find the Sea Dwellers wear bigger than the subs, because they are thicker. might be a bit bulky on your wife's wrist. looks lie trusty had several Tiffany & Co Subs, all on a NATO, which I don't understand. You can find a nice Oyster Fliplock to go on the watch, several dealers have them for sale. AFA the Daytona problem, there are several good watchmakers/modders in the EU. Search around or start a post in the General Discussion forum.

I would heed the advice of the experts here about having it serviced at a non rep friendly watch repair shop. just because you have a rapport with them relative to genuine watches, doesn't mean that they won't react negatively to a rep. Another thing, I doubt seriously that a watchmaker who isn't familiar with the idiosyncrasies of Chinese modified movements is going to tackle one of these. While he may be willing to service an ETA 2834 or 2836 in a rep watch, he probably won't fool with the modified A7750 Daytona. Most watchmakers aren't interested in tearing down a movement that they don't have a ready supply of parts for. This is a complicated movement and with the sec@6 mod, it's even more complicated. I would try to find someone here in the USA that is a rep friendly watchmaker who is willing to do the mods to make this a reasonably stable movement.

Very nice photos. What's the info on the Daytona? looks pretty darn good and your photos are outstanding.

I bought one just like this on EBay a while back. It was actually thrown in with a gen 14k Rolex Buckle. Try Lone Star straps, they have some very nice Alligator and Croc straps Link: http://lonestarwatches.com/index.html? I believe the color and the way it looks are due to age.Certainly not abused, but it definitely isn' new leather
