  1. Most of the watches and parts I get from the EU are sent signed for registered mail. DO NOT write watch on the customs declaration!!! Write horologic device, broken timepiece for repair and return to sender, horologic parts, etc. Writing "watch" is an invitation to every thief that may come in contact with your package along the way. 2. A tricompax 7750 ( 7753) movement which you would need for the 6263/65 is around 600.00 USD. I know, I just bought one from Ofrei less than two months ago. I would seriously doubt that you would find an ETA 7753 movement in a 500 dollar rep!! If that dealer is claiming that, he either doesn't have a clue, or he's scamming you. All of the moderately priced 6263's use either an A7750 movement, or a copy of one of the old Lemania movements. That movement has a non functioning hour totalizer (subdial at 6) The hand is frozen at 12 and doesn't move. Stick to the trusted dealers here, or watch the sales forum, the 6263's come up for sale fairly often. The DW version is a pretty nice watch, however as Freddy said, they all have flaws. 3. Great project. I have one (16613) but the only thing genuine with mine is the bezel insert, dial , crown/tube. They are great watches, not so blingy as solid gold, but very dressy.
  4. Definitely the AR coming off. iruined a pair of glasses just like that thought the stuff was a smudge, went to work with plastic windscreen polish and in about 10 minutes the little smudge was a big smudge!! Lucky for you sapphire is hard, not like plastic eyeglass lenses, yours can be stripped and the AR reapplied.
  5. the problem here guys is we are "preaching to the choir"!! Everyone who has responded to this post, and probably most others who do are stand up guys who have bought and sold, know the rules of the game, and abide by them. Every one of us who have sold a watch, part, strap, etc. have had the same experience. People who get caught up in the excitement of seeing a coveted watch appear on the sales forum, immediately ,without thinking, send of a reply or a PM, "I'll take it". then when they get the reply back, watch is yours, the reality sets in and they suddenly decide, I don't have that money available, do I really want that watch, or the wife says "If you buy another watch, I'm going to max out my credit card on shoes, or I'm moving out, etc.!! So what does he do, he bails. Bad enough if the guy PM's you 10 minutes later and tells you that he really can't buy your watch, but usually they do nothing, so you sit and wait, and wait and wait, meanwhile you have to tell 5 other people the watch is OHPF. The problem is no matter what we do, I'm afraid it's impossible to completely correct this pattern of behavior. Possibly give a neutral feedback to folks who abuse the system. It sure makes it difficult to sell something, especially if you hold something for a buyer and they bail out. I realize there are extenuating circumstances that might occur that would make a buyer have to back out, but I would bet that most of the time, they impulsively hit the buy button, and then flake out. Lots of guys here that I would hold a watch or parts for hours or even days, but they are known to me, and I know that unless something really bad happens, they are going to go through with the sale. I have had quite a few sellers here and on gen forums hold a watch, part, etc until I get home and can get to my computer to make the PayPal payment. I appreciate that and don't abuse their hospitality. If a buyer tells me that he wants something, if he's not known to me, I will advise him that there are others in line, and I he doesn't send the payment within say one hour, I move to the next person in line. That's reasonable and it makes him decide pretty darn quick if he wants it, and if not I move on.
  6. The relumed version of the dial looks much nicer. I know that moisture, humidity, or some natural force makes gen lume turn that sort of greyish green color, but it'spretty uncommon, and I don't care for it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  7. Some of the trusted dealers sell boxes and box sets, also Ebay always has boxes.
  8. Great. And congratulations, sounds like a great girl, and she bought you a very nice watch,
  9. I believe that one of the problems with "Brick and mortar" stores is they have lots and lots of folks come in and look, get the info, prices, etc. and then go home get on their computer and order one online for a much better price. Is the AD in question a stand alone store or part of a chain? If part of a chain, possibly the other stores or some of the stores may stock the Oris line, while others don't. Years ago there was a jewelry store in Shreveport La that was part of a small chain. They stocked Breitling, but were the only store in the chain that did. I asked one of the folks in the store one time why other stores weren't carrying Breitling, their answer was because of the close proximity to Barksdale AFB, which was a big SAC base at the time, they had lots of Air Force officers come in and ask for Breitling watches. They didn't have the demand at any of their other stores, so they were the only stocking store in the chain.
  10. phong has them, pretty pricy at about 300.00 USD. I bought one a while back and it was supposed to come with 80 endlinks, ended up with 382 end links which were for a Tudor of some kind. Will accept gen springbars though which most will not. I believe yuki has one, his will not accept gen springbars, NDtrading has one listed, but I couldn't ever get them to return my email asking for info.
  11. Yep, a long time. And some of the things that I learned, and most the hard way are, if you think you won the battle, no, you just won the first skirmish of the next one. Women never forget, especially your screw-ups. My wife will ask me, remember what you said to me about buying me those pearls, back when we were in Hawaii? Hell, that was ten years ago, I can't remember what I said ten minutes ago, Well if you make a promise, no matter how vague, you better write it down, lest you forget because she's going to remember! And lastly, that wasn't any joke about those sexual fantasies, once she has that ring, and those I Do's are all said and done, she will swiftly make you realize how little power you really have, and how much she really does. So buy a really nice watch that you like and wear it often.
  12. This question gets asked here all the time "Which watch should I buy" Impossible question, because, first we don't have a clue as to what you like,, how you dress is this going to be a watch you wear every day with everything from Shorts, jeans or a suit and tie, or will it be a "sport" watch only or a dress watch only, and what does your bride to be think about a particular watch? See Only you can answer these questions. If I were a first time buyer of a mid luxury brand watch, I would first off spend some time in good watch merchants, like Tourneau for instance, I'm not recommending them, just that they have a pretty big selection to look at and try on. Then I would buy something that resonates with you. If this is going to be a gift from your fiancé, it's not going to be a watch that you can flip if you don't like it !! Might have to get rid of the fiancé first if the watch turns out to be a bummer. Look at a bunch, try them on, envision what it will look like and how appropriate it will be with khaki and a Polo or a dark suit, white shirt and tie. And last of all it has got to be something that you like, because you are probably going to be wearing it for a loooong ,looong time (hopefully), and trust me, if it's stuck back in the bottom of your watch box or sock drawer, she is going to notice, and before long, you're going to hear this whispered in your ear "Sweetheart, why don't you ever wear that beautiful watch I bought for you, I thought you loved it". Translation, "You better dig that damn watch out of the sock drawer big boy and start wearing it, after I shelled out my hard earned 10K, or all those little sexual fantasies of yours will resort back to just that, fantasies"
  13. The 50th Anniversary was introduced in 2003, so this could very well be Eddie Lee's version of the Maxi dial, larger hands Anniversary edition LV. Never thought about Rolex bringing out the maxi dial version, so this is most probably a rep of that model.
  14. It's for an engraver. That vice in the center is a gravers vise. those aren't chisels, they are gravers, different shapes to get different effects. Also he has a small smoke lamp on the left side, that's to check tolerances and to create a pattern on the metal, using black smoke..
  15. Working hard in the Yard!!! MKII Kingston
  16. I don't have and eddie lee (EL) 16610, but here is a 16613 that is definitely and EL. If yours is and EL, it would have an ETA movement, because when these came out, there were no Chinese clone movements (Around 20005/2006) IF you open it up and it's a 21j clone, then it's later and not an EL. EL's didn't have gen like construction, will not take a gen crystal, nor a better aftermarket or gen bezel. You can swap the dial, crown/tube and insert for genuine, but that's as far as you can go. I wish your photo was bigger and more close up, my tired old eyes don't see as well as they once did, but I don't think this is and EL, first the minute hand is awful, look at the width, it looks almost like the later hands on the GMTIIC and the 116610, you need to open the back, but honestly, this one isn't from one of the makers that I'm familiar with. I don't think any of the older watches had hands like this, thick surrounds and the minute track too far in toward the center. Here is a gen 16610 from that same era, actually this one is a "P" serial from 2000
  17. Mike, it's a pretty neat app, I have it on my Iphone and my Ipad. I have been using the free version, but starting this morning on my Iphone, and tonight on my Ipad, I kept getting and error message that would not let me send PM's. I bit the bullet and upgraded to the 3.99 Tapatalk2 and it works fine. Probably what's happening is they are decreasing the bandwidth on the old free servers and adding to the paid subscription servers bandwidth, or they may well be abandoning the free Apps and concentrating on the ones they get paid for.
  18. Mike, you got plenty to do already without getting into the AR business !!!! lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  19. those old cases were gold capped, I bought a case set (1024) and mymanmatt built a really nice watch for my wife with the gen Airking dial, and a DG movement. He put it on a gold plated "President" bracelet and it made a really nice little watch. A little too small (34mm) for me, but perfect for her.
  20. No, I bought it from a seller over on repgeek, seller is a nice guy from Greece. The fellow who replaced the dial with the genuine dial also does electro plating, he plated the sides of the mid links. Unfortunately, this case is non gen like construction, gen crystals won't fit, so I've gone as far as I can go with modding it. It's now up with MD2020 getting the hands relumed. The gen dial glows like all gen Rolex dials, but the hands were very weak. Hopefully when I get it back, everything will glow the same, then back on the bracelet, back on my wrist and good to go. It is indeed "gold wrapped" or gold filled, and I was told it should hold up very well, like the old gold capped watches from years back, hope so anyway.
  21. Yeah, he would have been warned with your "modding hammer" , the 8 pound sledge!
  22. Great thread! Saw a lot of names of guys that were very, very active back in the early days who have moved on. Pity, because some of them were real contributors who gave a lot to this forum over the past 7 almost 8 years. This is a wonderful forum, I have learned an incredible amount about watches, what to look for and made some great acquaintances over the past few years. I have also spent and incredible amount of money, buying and modding watches!!!! Wouldn't trade these experiences for anything, well almost anything, one of Freddy's incredible reps or cc33's 6538 maybe!!!
  23. I saw this guys shoutbox post and then in the auction and scam sites, he has this big pontifical post touting all of his "Services" which to me smell scam, like fish on the dock for three days!! Why would he even be posting over here unless he was trying to sell his "authentication " services. I bet you Paypal the payment, he gets your serial # by email and 45 seconds later you get a notice that your watch "passed" the authentication criteria and a certificate will be mailed to you. This guy has probably never seen the inside of a movement. Warn Him, watch him, and if he does anything wrong, give him the heave ho!!
