  1. I generally try to avoid posting in threads such as this. But...I have to agree with Dave and Jose on this one. In a free market system (which this is) dealers and producers of products and services have the right to establish a price point that the market will allow. We as consumers have the right to accept or reject that price by making a purchase or not. People who whine about a dealer making profit apparently have no basic knowledge about the economics of running a business in a free economy. Unless you adhere to socialist principles, you have no right to dictate how much profit a person or company can make. If you invest your money and efforts in a business and accept the associated risks to provide goods and services as well as providing jobs and economic impact on your community, you deserve to make a profit. As to how much profit, the market will establish that based on demand and other economic factors. I needed to purchase a new car recently. The car I wanted was in high demand and the dealer had added a "market adjustment" sticker to the price. Should I have cried foul and whined about his excess profit because I want it but, the price is higher than I want to pay? If the dealer can get the "extra" profit he wants, more power to him. However, the market and economy will determine if he will or not. I simply exercised my right to refuse the price and went elsewhere. I may not like this dealer's pricing but he has every right to attempt to establish any price the wishes. .....End Rant !.......
  2. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed What a collection! Without a doubt you are a certifiable watch nut
  3. You are absolutely correct! We all need to pray for their success. That way, Fakemaster, Klink, and the like will isolate themselves there and the other forums will be free of their prattle and B.S. Sounds like a win win situation to me.
  4. Everything seems to be getting more expensive lately. Fortunately, watches are not a necessity as are food, shelter, fuel, etc. so, if you are feeling pinched, the only recourse that you have to cut back and only buy what you can afford. Of course, you could start up the old thread about boycotting dealers who you feel are charging too much. But....I think that has been tried before. If you think about it, we have demanded a lot from our dealers. By and large they have responded by providing us with some great reps. However, getting the manufacturers to tool up for more exact work requires money up front by the dealers making the request. I suspect that J and A have had quite a bit of out of pocket expense to get some of the reps created and produced. Naturally, these costs are passed on to consumers. Certainly, dealers are making money but, they have to put up with a great deal to earn it. Rude or ill informed customers, competition, customs, manufacturer's schedules, shippers, and local law enforcement are just part of the equation. Prices are established accordingly. Whether or not they are fair is up to the buyer to decide and that will control the market.
  5. If it is Fakemaster, the only following he has or had was at RWG 1. Perhaps he can draw enough of those guys over to make it float for a while. Looking back at his posts here, he had little if anything of value to say. Perhaps, he has some knowledgeable support to assist in the start up of the forum. If not, survival is going to be difficult to say the least.
  6. You won't be able to buy and ETA for $70 brom Juels Borel. They haven't updated the price on the web pages. You can get the current price by placing the movement in your cart, then check your price. A 2836-2 now runs just over $125.00.
  7. I like the international flavor that this forum has as well as the knowledge base found here. Members here appear more genuine and serious which means that I don't have to wade through a pile of B.S. as on some other forums. IMO, the experts who post here and the forum dealers are superior to those found elsewhere. Let's see...... Good site design, good dealers, good experts, great knowledge base, likable and helpful membership, excellent administrators....what's not to like!
  8. The bracelet that Joshua is offering you isn't the same as the one offered by Silix. It is a 14k gold with heavy gold plating rather than the thin plating found on most others. In my experience, it is the most durable of all the rep gold bracelets. I have had mine for over a year and it shows very little wear.I even polish it which would destroy the plating on most others. By all means send the photos to Joshua. I'm certain that he is asking for this because some less than honest customers have requested replacements when there is no problem just to get a spare. (I am not implying that is the case here) As far as sending you the parts, that might be an acceptable solution depending on how severe your problem is. If it requires just a few screws or links to repair, your watchmaker could have it back to as new condition in no time. Joshua has a stellar reputation for his customer service so, be polite and patient and he will work with you to solve your problems.
  9. I was in the garage with a friend who was admiring my just completed Frankenjust. As i removed it from my wrist to hand it to him, I juggled it as it slipped from my grasp and flew through the air. It ricocheted off my tool box before striking the concrete and bouncing several times before coming to a stop. I cringed as I slowly picked up the watch to assess the damage. The outside managed to survive with a few minor scrapes that could be polished out but the 2892-A2 did not fair as well. Upon examination I soon realized that the damage to the movement was beyond my capabilities to repair. So, off to my watchmaker it went to see if it could be resuscitated. After about a week and a bit of expense the watch is back again. I'll be more careful when removing watches from my wrist from now on!
  10. Do you have any idea what a nice gen 1665 is selling for these days? You could do every mod on that list and then some and still wouldn't be anywhere near the price of the gen 1665
  11. Doc, you are correct. My bad. The pre-ceramic GMTs used the same crown as the Datejust while the 2008 model does use the 7mm triple lock crown. Regardless, without a pressure test, Wombat took a chance swimming with his watch.
  12. To many people, buying and wearing replicas (fakes) of any kind is equivalent to telling a lie and therefore casts doubt on the individuals character. Others look down at reps because it is deemed pretentious to purchase and publicly display such items that you may not be able to own otherwise. I recommend that you maintain a low profile regarding reps around others. 95% of the population will never mention your watches unless you are flaunting them, much less, be able to define them as replicas.
  13. You may or may not be aware that the GMT hand is supposed to run at half the speed of the hour hand. It is a 24 hour hand and consequently requires 24 hours to complete one revolution around the dial. GMT time is read over those 24 hours, i.e. 1:00 PM is read as 13:00 hours which will correspond to the bezel insert marker.
  14. One thing to think about before you put the Air King under the knife is that your newly created Franken will still only be a replica watch. As such, it will never be worth what a gen Rolex will be worth on the open market. I would suggest that if you feel that you must have a gen movement, try to pick up one on the bay for your project. Also consider that many Rolex rep cases may not accept gen movements without modifications.
  15. Indeed he is! Particularly, since the GMT isn't a diver's watch and lacks the gaskets of the triple lock crowns used on the Sub and Sea Dweller.
  16. That bracelet has SELs. Unless I am badly mistaken, in 1985 "D" links were used for the bracelet ends.
  17. I have an ETA powered LV sub that I will trade you even for your SSD. The LV has all the hands and is in good working order! Send me a PM if you are interested.
  18. I would say that is a bad idea. For all you know, your kids might not value it as you do and you will have cheated yourself out of the pleasure of owning and wearing this fine timepiece. I would suggest that if you purchase one, wear it and enjoy it often. Your kids will then have a genuine family heirloom that was worn and cared about by their father rather than just a new watch that was put on a shelf for someone else to enjoy.

    Oh no

I'm curious. How would you put a watch inside a golf club? I assume it would have to be a driver or wood. Even if you managed to get a watch inside the club head, it would have to be welded back together so retreiving the watch would be rater difficult, wouldn't you say?
  20. This idea has been kicked about in the supporters section with positive results. However, I question the need for it here. Most members read and participate here to learn and share knowledge about replicas. After all, it is a replica board first and foremost. I have no objection to starting a gen watch section but, I will venture to guess that it will not get the traffic that many envision.
  21. John G is correct. We will need to know what movement came in your watch. If it is an ETA 2836 there is no problem at all and it is a simple exchange. If it is an ETA 2824, the 2836 might be too thick for the case. If it is an Asian DG2813, your dial will not fit the ETA unless you remove the "feet" and attach it with dial dots. As John G stated, you must replace the hands with the correct sizes for the new ETA.
  22. I have used aftermarket crystals from Jules Borel with good results on my gen Rolex. They are Swiss made to the same specifications as the original.
  23. The lastest price I have is from Jules Borel @ $125.05 for an ETA 2836-2. I suspect that the rep makers are getting them for much less in bulk.Unfortunately, the installation of ETA clones in our reps has become fairly common in recent times. The clones seem to be of reasonably good quality but, I resent being charged the price of a true ETA movement for it.
  24. I'll be fit for traveling with this one......even if I don't go anywhere
  25. Your problem doesn't sound like the difficulty is with the crown. I suspect that your keyless works are at fault. If you have removed the stem from the movement, you may have done the damage upon reinserting the stem.
