  1. Sorry, I'm not a racist! But a black James Bond? Seriously?? Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter works for me (even though the change was a bit strange...) C'mon.
  2. Always my advice: read the books! Then you know what the "real" James Bond should look like, at least how Ian Fleming described him. And I think Danie Craig does his job very well, I like him a lot (not like Pierce Brosnan).
  3. Hello, is there any sheet that shows with gasket goes to which ref. number / part of the watch? e.g. Rolex gasket 12.345.67 for 1600 Datejust for caseback. Btw: I got a gen 600 crown but without the gasket, what gasket do I need? Thanks!
  4. Hi, I use so called pin-polisher, they are made of silicone and contain abrasives, they measure 20x2mm or 20x3mm, come in different grits and hardness, cost 0,30€ per pin. This watchmaker recommend the middle (grit/hardness) ones: Cheers
  5. Very cool DIY solution. I've found a piezo pickup but finding such an amp prooves to be difficult. Can anyone show me one, preferably on ebay Europe/Germany.
  6. Taking the balance staff apart wasn't that difficult, back together took me one night, a lot of nerves and a little help of a trained watch smith since I doesn't have all the right tools. Everything done by myself except the rhodium (it's not worth buying all that stuff).
  7. Thank you! So, I carefully remove the barrel top and arbor, put on safety glasses and remove the mainspring. Then I clean the barrel, take the new mainspring which comes held in that plastic ringy thing and put it into the barrel (since it's a new one, no need to oil). How do I put the mainspring into the barrel? I know there is a tool for that, but can I do it by hand as well? And I've read about winding the barrel arbor a bit, but what is a bit? Oh, and here is the second movement I serviced and decorated (ETA 2678), I rounded the angles, polished it, applied the Perlage and got it rhodinized. Now it sits in a small watch which I gave to my girlfriend for christmas. Thanks
  8. Hello, I need some advice for servicing movements. At the end of the last year I started servicing my own movements, I got some cheap ETAs that weren’t running, I disassemble them and take photos of each step, then I put them together and hope that they aren’t in a worse condition than before . I clean each part (except the anchor) in 100% alcohol and use Moebius and Tillwich oil. It seems to work, no movement has broken down by now. But the only thing I don’t know; what should I do with the mainspring and barrel? I don’t have a mainspring winder nor any special oils, greases or graphite. What would be the best solution for me? Should I clean the barrel with the mainspring inside, but then how do I oil it? I wouldn’t have a problem to buy a new mainspring each time I service one of my movements (every 5 years?) but what to do with the new mainspring, does it come pre-oiled? And what would you recommend for cleaning? I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner and since I only service a few movements per year I don’t want to spend a fortune on super toxic cleaning solutions. I’d appreciate every advice! Thanks
  9. Springbars, definitely not gen
  10. I highly doubt that an AD can help you. The 6694 is a vintage watch and the old type of certificates and guarantee card are not produced anymore. The 6694 was made from the 60s to the mid 80s (I think), so there will be a good variety of different boxes that came with the watch. Go on eBay or the known rolex forums and search or ask for such a box, they are not awfully expensive, I got mine for 30€. And please don't buy a rep box they have such a poor quality it would be a shame for the watch.
  11. I would get some from Clarks, don't you need a crystal from there anyway?
  12. Hello, when people talk about reluming they often recommend the Zigmeister, Vac or Pbdad. But they are all outside of Europe. Can anyone name me people in Europe? I only know Domi but I've never seen any work of him. Thanks!
  13. Hello, I'm building a watch at the moment for christmas. I allready have an ETA2671 movement, sterile dial and hands. Now I'm desperately looking for a case where this movement fits in without a spacer ring. I really like the look of the Datejust and would like to use such a case. The only thing is that it needs a clear caseback, but the caseback of a Lady Datejust should be big enough to turn a hole in it and fit a crystal in that hole. Could anyone measure the inner diameter of the caseback? And does anyone know a source for such a case? I allready tried ofrei, startimesupply, raffles, helenarou and ebay but couldn't find any. I don't want to order a complete Lady Datejust rep from a trusted dealer because shipping to Europe would take maybe more than 1,5 months. Thank you!
  14. Thank you for the advice! Do you have any advice on the angle is it always the same? And do you brush before or after you polished the sides of the case?
  15. Hello, can anyone explain me how I can brush the lugs of a case? I already tried a nail file, but I wasn't totally happy with the result it was to shiny. How do you get good results, what's your workflow and which tools do you use (grit) ? I know the factories use special machines for that finish (don't know the English name for it). Thanks a lot!
  16. @nanuq: Beerenberg, Jan Mayen, Norway?
  17. You can put a 3135 on a 3035 movement, and since the late 16000 models had the 3035 this combo wouldn't be impossible.
  18. I bought a nice vintage Fliplock clasp for very little money but without the saftey lever. It is a spare part that is not as restricted as dial, cases etc., when you have a nice AD it shouldn't be a problem to order it like springbars or endlink. But all the ADs I've spoken to said that this repair kit doesn't exist and simply wanted to sell me a whole new clasp, which is something like 350€ instead of I think 32€ for the repair kit.
  19. 93150 fliplock repair kit, safety lever 32-20732.
  20. Hm, this is what I have found: I know it's a 16200 (gen with champagne dial), but it looks so sweet...
  21. Where are the Datejust experts?
  22. Hello, I'm putting together a 16014 franken and have a question about a possible dial combination. Does anyone know if there are any 16014s with a champagne dial with YG markers? I don't mean a 16013 with a YG bezel and crown, but this dial with WG bezel. I've seen a few 16014 with a white dial with YG markers and some others that had a champagne coloured dial, but I'm not sure if these just have silver dial and the light causes the change of colour. This is the dial in question: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Rolex-Datejust-Ziffernblatt-champagne-index-/300762812791?pt=Ersatzteile&hash=item4606dc5177 maybe not the best picture, but the colour does not appear to be very yellowish like the 16013 have, I'll post a better picture when the dial arrives. If anyone knows such a combo, please post the pictures here! Thanks!
  23. Has anyone experience with that? Someone tried it and ruined his movement. I would rather find a movement that fits in, than converting a movement.
