  1. Welcome to the Linen Club! Great article and a good thread for all beginners for their first Franken.
  2. Hello, this Saturday my Datejust unfortunately stopped. I checked the movement and found out that the jewel next to the ballance staff is lost... It is a ETA2836, in my ETA documents I didn't find a seperate ballance staff just the complete ballance, however on cousinsuk site I find a piece named ballance roller. Is that the spare part I need? Or what would be the easiest fix? Thanks!
  3. I was in the same situation, until about 4 years ago I always had my watch on my right wrist. And I always got asked if I was left handed... Then one day I had two watches on my wrist, at the begining it was a very strange feeling but then all my watches stayed on the left wrist.
  4. Oh and a sidenote: the mahand dials are NOT refinished gen dial or reprints on gen plates!
  5. Guys, forget the mahandi dials from eBay, they are a tiny bit too small, it doesn't fit my case (others had no problems with it, depends on the case you use). And the print color is a bit off, it's not white but rather a creamy color, that is ok for a vintage one but not for me. If someone wants it send me a pn...
  6. Very dissapointing this year, only the new Day Date dials are nice, love the green.
  7. But a 16000 dial would be wrong for a 1601 case. The advantage of the 2824 is that you can still raise it using washers between the movement and dial and like already mentioned you have plenty room for the DWO.
  8. Hi, sorry but this bracelet is not right for a Datejust. What you have is a 93150, but a bad replica. That one was never used for a Datejust, if you want a Oyster bracelet pick up a 78360 bracelet with the normal clasp. This is not an Explorer clasp, it's a 93150 clasp that was used for: 1680 (+ transitionals), 5513, 1665, early 16610, and was possible to order with the 1675 (+t), in general only in combination with a diver watch since it has a diver extention.
  9. Do you have a piepan dial? No problem: but if I read somewhere stuff like that I always think about the risk of ruining a nice genuine dial etc... and all the sweat, money and tears involved
  10. Hi, no offense, but if you really need to ask how to mount a movement ring to hold an ETA, you should better ask a trained watchmaker or one of the modders here to do the job for you. Edith: maybe I should be more patient: It's just a ring! You take the movement (dial mounted) and place it in the case, then you place the ring into the case in the space between the movement and the case wall, then you fix it with movement tabs and screws. Edith 2: maybe I should be more teaching: the Rolex 1570 is a 12 1/2 ligne movement (28,3mm) the ETA 2824 is a 11 1/2 ligne (25,6mm) movement, so you have to enlarge the diameter of the ETA movement to be as big as a 12 1/2 ligne movement. Hope this is enough...
  11. You use this (and case tab+screws) to hold the movement in place, you don't need a plastic ring (just used in cheap watches).
  12. I've been flying a lot the last weeks (Lufthansa) and I saw mostly Rolex (GMTs, Daytona and Milgauss), Breitling and one Omega.
  13. The posted watch (of billyfras) can only be a fake or a franken. The Tridor is an old Day-Date which has more meat between the lugs (iirc because of the first versions of SEL they had), the watch posten (1./2. picture) clearly has not this type of case and has a Jubilee bracelet. Even if a Jubilee was fitted to an old Day-Date these endlinks wouldn't work. It only (if genuine) could be a modern one with sapphire, but those were not availble as a tri colour. But based on the pictures there are other things that at least look off, the bezel eg.
  14. An older would be nice, like with the 703. The old crowns have crimp marks on one edge.
  15. You want to make an Asian movement (Pam or something with a clear caseback) look like the gen which has a Incablock shock absorber, the clone version has a fake one that does not look like the real deal.
  16. ETA Incabloc assembly for ETA/Unitas/Asian 6498
  17. Hm, not 100% correct There is one very rare version of the early Day Dates that appears to be a two tone, but it's rather three coloured. It's solid white gold, the bezel and crown are yellow gold and the president bracelet is solid white gold with two lines of each yellow and rose gold. It is the so called Rolex Tridor. But even based on these low quality pictures I daresay it's not genuine, the early 180X Day-Dates look different between the lugs.
  18. On eBay or the known rolex forums you will find a lot of genuine 6mm crowns. Otherwise post a thread in the trading section.
  19. Who has the best sub? alannewnew: if you are looking for a watch, post in the trading section, for that you need to upgrade your membership. And seriously you need to read the rules...
  20. Replica, a bad one... Hands, dial, bracelet, case, bezel, all with flaws.

    Dry lube

Hm, I've never ever felt the need of lubricating my bracelets. All my bracelets are so nice, smooth and quiet what are you guys doing with your watches?
  22. I think what Daniel means are not the endlinks for the Jubi or Oyster bracelet (should be the same on 162** and 16***) but for those small end pieces you can add when you have a leather strap on your DJ, they are custom built by etur. And no, I don't think they will fit a 16000 like a 16200.
  23. Don't expect too much from lume, even on a gen Rolex you won't have a torch after a few hours. On pre Chromalight Rolex watches they used a C1/C3 mix, a bit brighter then the standard C1, but still pure white day colour.
