I'm schwitzin' over here... don't mean to be a pest... but any news ?

according to the H.M. Revenue and Customs ( U.K) here any/all counterfiet goods are on the prohibited goods list and therefore are prohibited from being imported into the uk... and according to uk law anything to do with unauthorized use of intellectual property for comercial gain it is completely illeagal ... ie: trading replicas is illegal... possesion .. hmm... i presumed condoned ... just as long as you aren't crossing international boarders. Edited to add this little tid bit : In the U.K. purchasing pirated goods (counterfiet items, replicas bearing unlicenced trademarks ) is considered theft ... ( god this is a drepressing thread ) this reminded me of a winter many years ago when i was in the Philippines and was having a conversation with my cousin who was into his diving and wanted a Seamaster he saw the fantasy submariner i was sporting ... the blue/blue on stainless and noticed the cornet on the crown and said ' wow ... nice watch i can tell it isn't fake since there is logo on the winder... its illeagal for the copies to do that they have to leave the winder and the back blank' oddly i enough it isn't the first time i have heard somthing like this ... in New York a hand full of ing-nunt ppl told me a similar thing - essentially it is perfectly legit to have a rolex dial .. just as long as the rest of the watch dosn't have any rolex marks on it ... i was laughing inside thinking to my self where they come up with these theories of legitimate fakes its such a rediculous notion.

I would say that both have their merits. The case on my mbw is exeptional in comparsion to my non-mbw vintages ... but imho i everything else on the stock mbw has to go... but half the fun of working and owning an mbw is hunting down the parts ( in my-case when i was parts hunting i sometimes deluded myself that i owned a gen) and therefore spent say another $400 dolars or so on a $400 dolar watch . so i would say it can get expsensive on modding these... or any watch i suppose . but as ubi has said b4 ... when they are done... they are done.. on the other hand i have a two non-mbw vintages... i have a 1680 that is done up to decent spec (all aftermarket parts) ( unfortunately with out a retaining ring) but it dosn't look half bad next to the mbw 1680 in the watch box ... ) and i have 5517 that i am completely reworking ... and in its mock up stage it looks bloody amazing ( but then again a lot of money... more then in my mbw project.... had gone into parts- that being said the 5517 is a rarer watch and the parts demand a premium) anyway ... which every you choose ... best of luck !

man that sub was hurting in a massive way

we can only hope and dream right? why don't you throw in a rep 1:1 movment while you're at it ( only kidding) ... a good spec case and dial would be nice... i'll be had at hello if the price is right. i feel less guilty and anxious when tearing down an inexspensive rep in an attempt to mod it . whats cool about it is that hopefully some input from our vintage gurus here will be taken into account in pre-production .... then we'll all be laughing .

Comex Comex Comex Comex Comex Comex Time For A Comex Thread
rag9fx replied to a topic in The Rolex Area
i didn't think that there was a 1680 comex variant ? any more info on the 1680 comex ? -
it would be nifty to have a vintage rep that has been built from the ground up with input from the forum !

Hi all, Please forgive my probable misuse of termanalogy... I am thinking about installing new hands on an old fossil watch i have had kicking about ... the movement is an asian automatic with date feature... the issue i have is that it is a non-hacking movment ... how do i 'hack it' or get the seconds to stop so i change the hands? many thanks, Rob
-
If this works ... it would be amazing... which case are you copying the 5513 or the 1665 ? regardless best of luck on it .

nice

You also have to consider with mechanical movments they will eventually have to be serviced to maintain accurate time . At the very least on any movment (etas, gen rolexes... etc) every 5 years or so. I have also found that most non-dealership/ brand affiliated watchmakers who are willing to work on reps (which is really a matter of luck finding one) are more willing to work on swiss movtments rather then asian... so i would recomend making sure the movment you are getting is bonafide swiss if in the future you want to get it serviced localy. apart from that ,stainless would be a safe bet for better ware over time.

Hmmm... would say the lugholes and the cg milling would be a bit challenging not to forget the bracelet /endlink modification which can get fiddly ( that is if you aren't going to slap on a gen bracelet ) ... the case isn't exactly 1:1 ... but it is pretty damn close
-
Yeah i am not a massive fan of gluing things down... i like the secure feel of tension ... but you could always glue down the bezel ... since it isn't supposed to rotate. I never realized that the CGs were that pointy on the 1655... skeet and urul have mislead me again! The Trusty case aint too bad then for CG work .
-
Hmm you could always glue down the crystal unless that leaves you with a massive gap between the crystal and the rehaut . i am feelin those crown gaurds how long did it take you to bring those into shape?

Hmmm i spy an MBK shopping bag.... it seems soo close yet soo far away ... Loving those watches

I'm still up for it ... regardless of the date .

Can't wait... any ball park aproximations on the price ?

Rolex 3035 "momevent Replicas" ... Does Such Thing Exist?
rag9fx replied to FlipLockBuckle's topic in The Rolex Area
So those movements do exist !?... man for a moment i thought i was having halusionations... i liked those dressed up etas... a lot nicer looking then the stock etas with the rolex plate on the rotor .... anyone have any pictures of one ? -
thanks for the advice .... ran out and bought a bag of beef jerky just for the sillica gel. :-)
-
it certainly looks like an MBW/WM ... as far as i know there isn't much difference between mbws / wms they are essentailly the same watch ... which is why they are commonly reffered to as MBW/WM ... the WMs these days seem to be outfitted with rivetted bracelets but they are the same watch from the same factory

you have to love the oyster quartz... funnily enough rolex was heavily invested in the development of the quartz movment . in fact i believe back in the day (pre quartz explosion) they used to calibrate their mechanical movments to a 'super quartz' master clock.Certianly a collectors item or collectors item to be ... as they didn't sell too well (due to their step or dead beat)... a lot of the rolex quartz movments end up in rolex cellinis (sans second hands)

Cheers mate... how long would the back have to be exposed ?... i don't want my watch to feel vunerable and/ or naked any longer than she has to be
-
Hells yeah!!! im trembling in anticipation! i hope you all have enough to go around

Hi all this is the senario: i wore my 1680 in the shower yesterday morning ... i don't normally do this with reps but i requested that the case be presure proofed and tested ... so i assumed that it was... however as soon as i stepped outside the crystal completely fogged up ... i sat in my watch box over night ... peeked at this morning and there was still some moisture in the center of the dial ... 6 hours later i check up on it again and it looks clear so i assumed that the moisture cleared... but the moment i put it on my wrist it clouded up again... this is the first time have seen this... is my case flooded ? what should i do ???
