  1. I've serviced (oil and clean) a rep (PAM) once at the local watchshop and told him before it was a rep. He was actually happy o receive it since he was loooking forward to see how it was compared to a gen Wouldn't dare taking a rep into a AD, they usually are a bit brainwashed
  2. Still this one; But after seing Eunomians Helvetia I might change into this one later;
  3. Welcome and enjoy the Panerais, it's an addictive type of watch
  4. Try opening it w/ wearing rubber gloves but if it don't work buy a cheap wrench with the proper diameter at your local hardware (plumber) shop and put some tape on it (no damage to watch). You can also buy a Panerai case opener on Ebay. After that tighten the 2 screws on the 2 large wheels.. check if it works good now. If it doesn't, check if that screw is tight and the spring is ok on the "mini-wheel that clicks" connecting to the largest wheel. If that's all good remove the winding stem like mentioned here and check if the crown is tight to it, also check if the winding stem is seated properly into the watch when putting it all back. Good luck!
  5. Always been happy with Davidsens offers, that watch is a must in a Panerai collection. But there are so many nice watches out there to buy on my list, can't decide.....
  6. Yes agree that a vintage strap is a must here. Waiting for this one myself from Aaron:
  7. Thanks V! Always enjoy your posts! Got to get me one of those white dial Panerais with a dark Shark strap, very very nice!
  8. Nice one azgjav! Been alot 177H lately, seems to take off now
  9. The good thing about smoking a dial would be that the possible smell would be trapped into the case, so in theory the watch itself wouldn't smell hopefully. Thought about dipping our painting a dial with cold tea but was unsure if the result would be good since it could dissolve maybe some print/lume or just give large irregular staining. Anyone succesfully tried any dial smoking or tea dipping?
  10. He keeps putting them on sale but they go pretty quick with "buy it now". Waiting for my dots since about a week to fit in gen insert on a 1680. Pictures of them posted before mounted on reps on this forum I remember.
  11. This sylar? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylar
  12. Allright vaccum! Nice one and those BOB's are excellent value!
  13. Thanks for the nice comments, yes smoothing the CG is next on my list. It's actually a replacement from Josh since I managed to wreck the first one; Don't do this if the lever is loose... drill a hole in the lever and try fit a rubber tube around the lever pin (Jimmyzfu style), if you are clumsy like me Just do this, put a thicker o-ring under the crown and some soft setting glue around the pin in the lever, then everything's fine Oh, and the palp crown is not the sandblasted "Ti" crown from Palp, it's actually the polished Palp crown that's been brushed, repeatedly heated and cooled w/ a gas lighter to darken it (and then washed of course).
  14. Congrats on your new watch! Just posted pics of the exactly same watch, but have to say you have some excellent photo skills and camera
  15. Originally the 177H from Josh. Finepics did the hands, dial and pin, amazing top work I think Thanks! Fitted a Palp crown afterwards. Strap's a BOB caramel calf.
  16. I couldn't say but I guess the Romeo's will give a better scent to the watch
  17. Have thought about aging a dial by putting it in an empty Nescafe glass jar filled with cigar smoke for a while but haven't got around doing it yet
  18. Please put a Rolex in the poll, but doesn't Jay the builder gonna have a strong saying in this matter since he'll be the one stuck w/ the gen
